the purple friday caravan tradition continues this morning at alonzo's. a full preview coming up of the big party. it is back to work. new developments this morning after morgan state suspended its men's basketball coach. forget the omelet, the cereal or the waffles this morning, how you can chop into -- not that monster, something else. it's coming. there it is. do not adjust your set. that is nine pounds of burger. that is a bunch of beef. we'll tell you more about that on this friday, january 20th. good morning, maryland, i'm charley krauss. let's head right over to meteorologist lynette charles who's clapping this morning off camera. >> i am. it's purple friday, i am pumped. you know what, charley? i might have another cheer in me. but i'll only do it if you do your cheer we talked about earlier. >> i will bring out the fu man chu.

>> colder, 38 degrees, partly sunny and then clouds. a wintery mix will be moving in here through the overnight. but then the temperatures are going to get mild again. the wind chill, this is what i want you to dress for this morning, 26 degrees, it feels like 23 in bel aire and 25 into joppa right now. maryland's most powerful radar not picking up on anything, but there is change coming, like i said, as we go into the overnight lingering into tomorrow. so we do have a winter weather advisory that goes in effect from 1:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on saturday and this is looking at all the areas here shaded in the purple. so cecil county is in that as well. as we look back towards the west, though, we are looking at a winter weather watch. if your travels take you that way, you may want to hold off. washington county dealing with that. hazardous roads, ice, sleet, freezing rain, and that will all switch over to rain as we mainly go through the late hours in the morning on your saturday. just be aware of that. i'll detail this system a little bit more telling you how it all comes together. so stay tuned for that. and then i have your forecast for the game. let's send this over to angela

now. she has your traffic. good morning. >> good morning to you, lynette, good morning, everyone. as you get ready to head out for your purple friday commute, we're hoping things remain relatively calm for you. we have a check of 795 coming in from the owens mills region. all lanes moving well there. we continue to see mild conditions on i-95 between both beltways, 495 and 695. here's a look at the harrisburg expressway at shewon road. drive times looking good as you make your way down towards the top side of the beltway, same on 95. for our mta commuters, buses subways on time. light rail, however, experiencing a 20-minute delay. charley, over to you. tom brady in the last three games, in the last three years you've held them to six yards per attempt which is the best in the national football league. what can you learn from that and what will you apply to this game on sunday? >> anything we've learned, we probably wouldn't share it with the national viewing audience.

purple friday, we will be making tons of stops. you should come on out. reporter: what are you giving way today, kelly? >> we're giving way tickets and transportation to the game this sunday. reporter: to locations, right? >> galleria down at the harper and -- harbor and also we're giving away tickets tonight. come out and support the team. reporter: come out and support the team, i mean, why not, right? what are some of your predictions this weekend for the ravens? >> 24-21. i think it's going to be close. brady and company are great, but i know reid, lewis, rice, nada, we got it. reporter: you know we're going to come back with a win. if anyone remembers watching last week, this party was incredible at this time of the morning. can you imagine next week going into the super bowl? >> i'm going to try to imagine it because i know we're going to be there. >> what about you? >> definitely. i think we're going to be there 100%. this is our year. reporter: so, again, today two tickets to the game on sunday

to the high school, the fire is right outside here. it's moving right toward the high school. our live shot is still established here. we're taking it down and we're gonna get outta here. >> the vice president is doing fine, as well as the students at the school. one person has died so far from the wildfires, 20 homes destroyed. originally 10,000 people had to be evacuated, but most have been allowed to return home. president barack obama took the stage in new york's famed apollo anthony for a reelection fundraiser last night. during that speech, he seemed to get caught up in the moment. >> and then to know that reverend al green was here. i'm so in love with you . >> the president was part of

it's snowing now in california's sierra mountains. you can see the freeways, they got a bit of snow and drivers are certainly taking it easy. some residents say they're excited to start skiing. equipment already out to keep the roads safe, but officials are cautioning drivers, be prepared with tire chains and a

fuel tank full of gas, even a little extra food and water just in case. this, of course, going on along the west coast. flooding in oregon, and, of course, icy still in washington state. lynette. >> you're exactly right, charley. it's just been a busy week across the west, the pacific northwest and we're dealing with that even for today this. is going to go into the weekend as well. as we check out closer to home, things are going to be calm today, but you can see what's going on. the fact is that we will have a storm system that's going to be pushing in from the south and also from the north and with that we are going to get a little bit of a wintery mix in here as we go into the evening time frame and tomorrow. but for now things are dry. we just have a few clouds trying to move in as we go through this morning. but all in all, temperature wise because of the clouds, we're not as cold as we were yesterday. these temperatures are about 10 degrees to 12 degrees above where we should be now for this time of the year. it is still cold outside because we do have the winds at about five to 10 miles an hour out of the northwest. so 36 mainly feeling more like 32 degrees this morning. as we check out the forecast for your hour by hour. as we go into lunchtime, that temperature right around 35 degrees.

the clouds will start to increase just like they did yesterday, setting us up for this system this evening. we will have a high right around 38 degrees. i'll have that storm system in detail and i will have your seven-day forecast, all of that coming up. now let's head over to angela. she has your traffic. good morning. reporter: good morning, lynette. an incident now for those of you traveling in the downtown region. we've got two lanes blocked on lombard street between president and gay. this is due to work on a broken water main break. you should be able to get around it. very light volume so far in the downtown region this morning. late go ahead and get another live tour of traffic on 29. starting to see those southbound lanes crowd up as you make the drive through oak ridge heading down to maryland 32. and here's a live look of 95 on the tidings bridge now. getting a report of some type of incident in that vicinity, perhaps maryland 222 in perryville. we'll check in with state police and update you on that in our next report. charley, over to you. seems like william shatner has dealed his latest deal for

welcome back. morgan state's men's basketball team now has their head coach back today. todd bozeman was suspended earlier this month after being accused of punching one of his players during the game. bozeman says the contact between him and the senior guard was overblown and insists he would never strike any of his players. he'll return to the sidelines

individual game tickets for the 2012 season go on sale at 10:00 tomorrow. governor martin o'malley is scheduled to be in hanover this morning for a meeting about jobs. he's going to talk about the sparrow's point situation and meet with labor leaders and officials from r.j. steel to officially announce the plant will go back online. the plant laid off 600 workers right before christmas. many hope to be working by this march. today the governor will be telling the workers they'll be going back to work in the next few days. married people may be happy, but that may not be a reason to rush to the altar. according to a new study, psychological well-being, marriages offer little benefit other than simply living together without a wedding ring. cohabitation offers more room for independent and personal growth. put your breakfast down because you gotta see this.

you know what? this is going to be tailgating for the day. let me show you what's happening. we have a big storm system working its way in here as we go through the overnight. we're looking at the weather now in new england, and, yes, they will already have some snow on the ground from this system that's going to push its way in here overnight. so they will be playing in some snow, but it just won't be falling from the sky. now, the satellite and radar, check out what's going on right now. we can see not a whole lot across our area, but the storm system is definitely going to be making its way in here as high pressure starts to slide off, that cold front moves through, and with that high pressure offshore, we're going to get an onshore flow, then we'll have more moisture coming up from the gulf of mexico, so we have all the elements for a winter storm. the bad thing is that we're going to get a wintery mix, so we'll get some icing in here, some freezing rain, also some sleet. you can see the rain/snow line here as we go late into tonight, into early saturday morning, and then it finally switches all over to rain. so that's what we can expect as we go into time. sunday looks a little bit dryer as of now. but check out the temperature today, right around 38 degrees,

increasing clouds. it will be slightly colder and then tonight that temperature right around 30 degrees, and then by tomorrow, here we go, 40 degrees, a.m. sleet. so morning sleet, freezing rain, then all rain, and this is what it looks like as we head into the game on sunday. i have that game forecast for you. again, partly cloudy, we could be seeing a wintery mix, winds out of the east at five to 10 miles per hour. we all know that kickoff is at 3:00 p.m., but go ravens. we are going to get them. the seven-day forecast, not looking so bad because we warm up as we head into the beginning of next week. angela, tell us about the traffic. reporter: lynette, good morning to you, good morning, everyone. on the roadways right now, spoke with maryland state police and they say it was possibly a stalled car, but all is clear, all lanes are moving well on 95 at maryland 222 up in perryville. if you travel on 95 south of baltimore or even on 29 or route 1, all is looking good there also. southbound lanes on all of these major thorough fares picking up, but still no heavy congestion as of yet. here's another look at 95.
