coming in later this evening. i am keeping my fingers crossed, i think he'll make it. a few morning showers possible, heavier rain late this evening. unseasonably mild for today and then for the first half of the weekend it looks like it could be on the dry side. maryland's most powerful doppler radar not picking up on a whole lot this morning but you have to go a little further to the south into dc to get in on some of the real wet weather there. you can see it around mitchellville as of now and also into forestville in alexandria. if your travels take you to silver spring back into virginia along i-95 you're going to be dealing with the wet weather this morning. temperatures this morning, not bad. we are above average, well above average i might add. goldsboro at 39 degrees. 40 into centreville. that temperature in bel air around 35 degrees. as you head out the door take the rain gear in case because like i said a couple of places could have a few spritz and

drizzle through the day. let's check traffic with burt. i did it. i said it, i got it out. >> right. here we are looking at the roads. i-95 at maryland 135, our first live traffic view, this is traffic running northbound and southbound at posted speeds with not much volume for this time of the morning as well. on the beltway ride, i-695 at harford road, to the northeast side, again, traffic volume building but no issues and no delays to pass along. further on the beltway, i-695 on the northwest corner at old court road, building volume toward the west side but no issues to report. it's nice and calm for the morning ride. back to you. 500 people are waiting in line for a chance to see the president on his tour. he'll be in detroit today for the second day of his road trip. the president will be in five states, the first of which he got more than he bargained for

and greeted by the governor jan brewer. brewer was at the airport to greet the president but the warm welcome turned cold between the two. corrine redmond has new reaction from the governor. >> reporter: when the president usually visits a city he's usually greeted by handshakes and pleasantries, not this time. president obama had an encounter with jan brewer while visiting the battleground state. he's in the middle of a three of this day tour through three king swing states. he was in arizona to visit the intel facility in chandler to reiterate his message about manufacturing and job creation from tuesday's state of the union address. when he stepped off air force one yesterday he and brewer, who is a republican were seen exchanging words behind a limo that was in the president's motorcade. brewer says the president took offense about how he was portrayed in her new "scorpions for breakfast." >> i welcome him and thank him

floodwaters are flowing through parts of queensland, australia, forcing evacuations. monsoon rains have been pounding new south wales and a lot of homes lost power. this is a year after queensland

two aide workers in the hands of kidnappers in somalia for months are free. a u.s. special forces mission to rescue them was greenlighted by president obama. sherrie johnson is here with more on that rescue. >> reporter: an ailing american woman and danish man are safely on their way home after a dark of night rescue by u.s. navy seals. the commandos slipped into a somali encampment, shot and killed nine captors and whisked the hostages to freedom. u.s. military and fbi were searching for the humanitarian aid workers since october when

the two people were kidnapped. president obama ordered the mission on monday to save jessica buchanan after intelligence reports indicated her health wasder tear rating -- deteriorating. the men were part of the elite navy seal team 6, the same ones that killed osama bin laden. jessica's family is relieved and thankful for the rescue. >> now that she's safe, it's such a weight off all our shoulders. such an answer to all the prayers. >> reporter: officials say both of the hostages are in good health and have talked to their families but there's still another american still being held by another pirate group in somalia. sherrie johnson, abc2 news. today joe paterno will be mourned by thousands of people. his public memorial is today at the bryce jordan center and more than 15,000 people are expected to be in attendance. there will be a speaker from each decade of his career at penn state with his son jay being the final speaker. paterno's 61-year career

abruptly ended in november when he was let go over his handling of child abuse claims involving former assistant coach jerry sandusky. the frederick news post says it will resume publishing a monday edition after nearly three years of going without it. the paper said in a story on its web site that the monday edition would return february 6th, the day after the super bowl. the emphasis will be on general interest, business and sports news. this year's college freshmen are more studios than their counter parts of the facet few years -- past few years. according to an annual survey of high school students. they took more commanding coursework and did more homework as high school seniors, fewer said they drank alcohol or showed up late for class. bwi airport passengers looking for a quite bite to eat will soon have more options to choose from. bwi is adding four new restaurants and bars to its concourses by late spring.

we're dealing with that wet weather as we head further to the south and also back towards the west across the ohio valley as of now. yes, all of this is requesting to be working its way into our area but i'm thinking the bulk of the action really doesn't get here until tomorrow morning. so it is definitely going to be a dicey commute, a very slick commute. i'll be here and walk you through everything. we'll get through it together like we always do. this is that weather pattern for you. we'll have that warm front move through the area today. we're going to be on the mild side then. i'm forecasting a temperature around 50 degrees. it will get even warmer as we go through the overnight. we're waiting for that cold front to move through the area tonight and with it, it will be dragging that rain. today's temperature around 50, we'll see a few morning showers, that is definitely possible. then as we go later into the evening, rain will be more steady and it will get heavier out there as well. temperature-wise, going through tonight we're coming in around
