unseasonable weather stick around? >> he's probably a future ski champion. he's big on the snow and the slopes. none of that today. we're in the upper 60s. 67 downtown. that's how we finished january with a warm south wind and a few passing clouds. as we go into the latter part of the week, mild evening in the 50s. all right. in other nice, a man is shot and killed by police early this morning after authorities say he threatened at least one officer, stole a baltimore county squad car and fled into the city. brian kuebler has more to help us navigate through it. >> reporter: it started on 695 about 2:00 this morning, ended

in south baltimore with a police shooting, suspect with very few twists and turns in between. the best way to make sense of this story is crone know lodge -- crone know logic. they were tailing a car when it crashed near i-95. at that point the suspect started fighting with the county officer told them he had a gun, jumped in the squad car and took off. it was switched for a ford bronco. four were inside. while three are taken into custody, a fourth, believed to be the man who stole the police cruiser jumped into the driver's seat and jumps off again. it comes to a head in this south baltimore shopping center on annapolis road. >> at that point officers fired multiple shots, striking the suspect. >> reporter: that suspect later

died. his i.d. yet to be released. city police are technically in charge of this bizarre investigation because it happened on their turf. ultimately, both counties will have to answer questions about why officers shot who witnesses say was a suspect who was running away. >> he ran, and they did what they did. >> reporter: did they shoot? >> yes. there were a few shots fired. >> reporter: baltimore county police declined an on camera interview, deferring to the city police. bpd said they only recovered a sledge ham earth from vehicle and no firearms and when asked, the county spokesperson could not say whether or not a gun was recovered at any of the locations. clearly, there are a lot of questions about the case.

in the meantime the anne arundel and two officers who shot and killed that suspect are on administrative leave. brian kuebler, abc2 news. a driver is in the hospital after crashing into a fire hydrant, a bge pole in baltimore county. earlier the crash shut down old harford road while bge crews tried to fix the pole. the road was open two hours ago. schools were also closed because the power went out. police said the driver had trouble negotiating a curve. a man is behind bars charged with sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl in aberdeen. the girl had gone to a friend's home on pond road last thursday when the attack occurred. the girl told her mother and she reported it to police.

>> the detectives were able to identify the suspect early in the investigation. may have had contact and ultimately charged him. >> 29-year-old gerald hazelwood is being held in the harford county detention center with no bail. he's facing a series of charges including second degree rape. they will tell jerry sandusky of the 10 who allege sex abuse. they will turn over other information to back up the counts gnts former penn state coach. a former teacher in los angeles has been arrested for allegedly molesting nearly two dozen children. >> this is so disturbing we have

to put a disclaimer out. if you have young children, get them away from your tv right now. we have a 61-year-old elementary school teacher. he took bond damage photos of the kids. the kids thought they were being blindfolded and gagged as a game. they were rewarded with cookies with what they thought was a spoonful of sugar, but it wasn't. we'll spare you the details of what was on that spoon. >> this is an unfortunate incident that has occurred at our school and i would like to express my deepest sympathy to the families. >> this investigation started over a year ago but the arrest came after lab testing matched the dna with the spoon found in

his class roo. the 30-year veteran teacher has been removed from his job. police went to his home and found hundreds of more photos. bond is set for $2.3 million. a colorado mother left her two toddlers in a parking lot, disappeared for hours and suddenly came home that night miles away saying she didn't remember what happened. police say sara hat field committed a crime. employees at a gas station discovered her mini van saturday, her 2 and 4-year-olds inside for hours. her husband soon discovered a handgun was missing for -- from their home. for eight hours he feared the worse. >> she doesn't know where she's bfnlt the best thing doctors have at the month is she

suffered some sort of epileptic seizure, partial seizure that triggered an amnesia experience. >> police have charged hat field with misdemeanor abuse. well, the last time we heard about accused schemer tommy clack, he was behind jail. tonight he's back here in maryland. abc2 news investigator joce sterman is here with more. >> reporter: i wouldn't say tommy clack got a warm welcome. he was extradited from florida and now faces a handful of court appearance. according to the state's attorney's office in anne arundel, once tommy clack came back to town he was served with four tout outstanding -- four

outstanding warrants. tomorrow he's got a faceoff with the attorney general's office. they hit clack with a cease and desist order and told him to stop paving without -- he was supposed to be in glen burnie. he faces charges of acting as a contractor without lap license. we'll follow all of those cases and keep you updated. governor martin o'malley said legalizing same-sex marriage in maryland is a matter of protecting our children. today the governor testified to allow same-sex marriages before the senate judicial committee. he said it would offer legal protections to children of same sex couples. >> we all want the same thing for our children, the opportunity to live in a caring, committed and stable homes

good day to be out on the boat. look at the gorgeous conditions. our view from downtown and 63 balmy degrees. just taking it while i can in the middle of winter. you had that opportunity. sunshine on tap throughout the state and baltimore, no exception, that's for sure. we have bright sunshine at times, a few clouds early on. things clear in the morning bute temperatures bones back -- bounce back rapidly. one more stop in washington where temperatures were well into the mid to upper 60s, not record breaking heat for the region but we did see temperatures that got close to the old record. the old record is 69. today at best we were 67, 68, still waiting for the official

number at bwi. crystal clear. that's going to hold up through the night. temperatures now statewide running in the 60s and low 50s in ocean city. 59 in easton. we've got 63 in hagerstown. highs today, this is what we wanted to show you. again, getting close to record levels, not quite but getting there. 68 downtown. 63 in annapolis. and southern delaware at georgetown, 62 today. not bad for this last day of january. as we go through the first day of february, temperatures look to be just as warm. i don't think we'll see as much sunshine. a relatively clear night. a little more disturb weather, some mid-level moisture. that will add up to yes, another warm day. as the boundary gets closer, it could spark a few showers. it will generate more cloud

then stole the police cruiser. he hopped in a ford bronco with four other people in it. police stopped the bronco on annapolis road in the city. that's when two baltimore county and one anne arundel officer shot the suspect. he later died. investigators still haven't said for sure whether or not he had a gun. we've been following the case of the huge paving scheme involving tommy clack. he's facing a case brought by the attorney general. clack was served with three warrants and posted $300,000 bail before being reduced. he's due in court on thursday. governor martin o'malley testified in support of the proposal to allow same-sex marriage in maryland. he said the bill would provide protection of children of same sex couples. last year it passed in the
