>> happy friday. you want to know what the weather is for the weekend. we've had such a great stretch. here's meteorologist lynette charles. >> good morning you two. we are dealing with a fan tabulous friday. we will get some sunshine into the afternoon. a bit cooler but temperatures still above normal. then maybe a few showers for the weekend. i'll explain that in detail in just a second. your satellite and radar not picking up on a whole lot this morning. we are under mainly clear skies and that's going to be the name of the game as we go into the afternoon. these temperatures coming in right around 36 degrees this morning. yes, we're a little bit chilly in arnold. but we're not really dealing with the windy conditions. i think winds will be out of the north five to 10 miles per hour. i have some more temperatures to talk about and i'm going to break down that rain. but now let's get a check of the traffic with angela. do we have any accidents to start the morning? say no. reporter: i will say no and i really mean that. state police cleared a collision on u.s. 50.

for those of you headed westbound towards the chesapeake bay bridge, they have confirmed all lanes are open and things are moving smoothly there. that's pretty much the case all around as we kick off the friday morning drive. no problems to report on the harrisburg expressway. all the way from the pennsylvania state line we are clear to the top side of the beltway. here's what you'll find on the north side of 695 as we look live at 695 and delaney valley road. charley and megan, over to you. >> thank you. today a hearing is set for the university of virginia la crosse player charged in the death of his former girlfriend yardly love. is standing by with more information this morning with how the university is preparing for the coverage in this trial. reporter: good morning. the university of virginia is preparing students and staff for next week's high profile trial. he is expected to stand trial in charlottesville for the murder of his ex-girlfriend, yardly love. a pretrial hearing has been set

in charlottesville in circuit court. the two-week long trial will start on monday and jury selection will take about two days. love was killed on may 3rd, 2010 inside her apartment in charlottesville. she was found by her roommate face down on her bed in a pool of blood. during the summer of 2010, a group of 25 student leaders formed the let's get grounded campaign that helps helps with disrespectful behavior among peers. vice president of student affairs office patricia lampkin released this statement, i immediately began to notice a difference of calls and notifications our office might get from peers and others. there's a balance of not blowing something out of proportion but paying close attention to concerns so we might get in front of a potential problem. there's been a huge outpouring of support for yardly love. you can head to our website, abc2news.com. we have the story and within the story you can click on a

women that kills 400,000 women every year. and the crowd expected in nashville tonight at the grand ole opry. keith urban will perform there. that's his first concert since he had vocal surgery. seven years ago, that's how long it took maryland's board of positions to discipline one doctor accused of sexual misconduct. but his case isn't the only one with a lengthy delay. abc 2 news investigator josie sturman explored this and exposed cases where some maryland doctors were allowed to keep practicing for months, even years before formal action was taken. we found dozens of cases that had serious delays. it's all part of an abc 2 news investigation into bad medicine. as part of our story last night, we exposed how those delays applied to cases involving everything from sexual misconduct to drug abuse, even doctors who played a role in the deaths of patients. the maryland board of physician is the agency assigned to discipline doctors, although they are often quick to act, sometimes taking just days to

revoke or suspend a license. we found other doctors were given the opportunity to continue practicing for years. >> there are many reasons for delays of the board. and up front some of them are internal, the board has made a mistake in following through on certain investigations for a number of reasons, we have implemented procedures to keep that from happening again. reporter: the board's chairman says due process in these serious cases can take a while and that doctors who are questioned need the opportunity for a thorough investigation. he believes the board is doing a good job handling cases all the way through prosecution, but the state disagrees a bit. a scathing audit last fall is bringing serious changes to the board which is independent. we'll tell you about that and hear more of the board's response to our investigation tonight at 11:00. in the meantime, we want you to check out a special website we've created. it's abc2news.com/bad medicine. we put our full coverage of our

investigation right here for you to look at. you can look up doctors by name, by the various complaints. you can see which complaints are most common related to all of these documents. you can look up your doctor and figure out how to file a complaint. this is all on our website, abc2news.com/bad medicine. josie sturman, abc 2 news. 4:48. now a medical mystery. more than a dozen students in one high school coming down with something change. they're all twitching uncontrollably. abc 2 news health reporter linda stow is here to tell us the cause remains unclear. linda. reporter: well, charley, the cause is unclear, but we've learned the school district that's affected has its own natural gas wells. they supply the school with fuel and the wells use a controversial technique called fracking that shoots a chemical mixture into the earth to force out gas. the question now is is the gas from the wells contaminating the water, soil or air. 15 students have come down with similar tick-like symptoms. it's happening at a high school in upstate new york in the leroy school district.

lana clark says her daughter lauren has been suffering since october. doctors have somethinged some of the students with conversion disorder, a stress-based condition. but many in the community fear there may be something in the environment and parents say school officials aren't doing enough to solve the mystery. >> they're frightened of lawsuits. i mean, who wouldn't be frightened of lawsuits and they're protecting themselves too and they're protecting their image. reporter: the school district has hired an attorney who turned down requests to interview the school superintendent. reporters are also banned from entering school property. linda stow, abc 2 news. colorado lawmakers want to become the first in the nation to ban junk food in school cafeterias as it continues the nation's toughest school transfat ban. that would mean vending sales and bake sales and popular allah cart items -- al-la-cart items. a book bringing up baby is

drawing criticism this morning. the author claims french parents are doing a better job parents than american parents. the book author claims that american parents are spoiling their kids. the author points out that parents should even allow their babies as young as six weeks old to cry for a few minutes while training them to go back to sleep on their own. a bit of a landmark achievement today in the springle household. you're talking about the babies, they slept all night. they did. they went to bed at 6:30 last night and slept until 3:30 this morning. when a bunch of champs. >> yay! can dow a cheer, lynette? >> i cannot do a cheer. let's see, we have lots of sunshine out there today, so i'm going to say, i'm walkin' on sunshine you like that? >> i love it. >> all right. so we're definitely dealing with some very cold temperatures this morning and the map is telling that.

look at the blue background here. so we are kind of shivering this morning, especially coming off what we have been. so temperatures from baltimore to fredrick and even into winchester we're dealing with the freezing degree mark right now. d.c.43 degrees. easton looking at 36 degrees. the satellite and radar not picking up on anything right now. we are under mainly clear skies and all of this is going to translate to plenty of sunshine by this afternoon. we are looking pretty good. if you like the sunshine, you have to get out there, you have to enjoy it. the reason why is we have this big area of high pressure that's building in as we go throughout the day. and with that when you have high pressure, the clouds can't rise, they just sink, so if you don't have clouds, well, you're dealing with lots of sunshine and that's what we'll be dealing with today. future trend picking up on what's going on here. we will be seeing mainly clear skies throughout the day. then the clouds will start to move in as we go into the weekend. you see what i have here, i do have some rain mainly south of us and maybe sop snow back into western maryland, but all in all things seem to be dry.

after the soccer game on wednesday. witnesses say about 3,000 people demonstrated in front of police headquarters. we're learning overnight that u.s. defense secretary panetta believes israel could strike against iran, possibly by the spring. he says that attack by israel would be done in efforts to stop iran from building a possible nuclear weapon. the "washington post" first reported that panetta was concerned about the increased likelihood that israel would launch an attack within the next few months: thousands of people in northern australia have spent the night in evacuation centers as the worst flooding in 35 years shows no sign of easing up. one town has been cut in half this morning after a river broke. now, in queensland, the regional town of mitchell is experiencing the worst flood ever. the water still rising this morning. and ukrainian nuclear experts say the japanese citizens evacuated from the stricken fukushima plant should be able to return home. unlike the chernobyl site which remains inside a wide no-go zone, a quarter century later
