let's start with meteorologist wyatt everhart. it's been all day with this back and forth. rain, snow and at times back to snow and back to rain. it's north and west of the i-95 corridor where we've seen the most consistent snow and temperatures falling to that freezing level. some of these areas to the north and west we could see some accumulations, particularly on elevated surfaces, grassy areas and rooftops. not so much on the roads. most of the roads have been pretreated but we're seeing bands that could create slick areas and further west toward manchester. we can see slick areas. you want to drive with caution. it has been a rain event on the eastern shore and along the immediate chesapeake waters. there's not a lot behind this. we have a couple more hours to deal with it. the freeze line, you can see, is

north and west of baltimore. it's up here, york, frepg and car -- frederick and carroll county. that's where we'll see the possibility of icy areas. mostly rain to the east of i-95. we'll talk more about how things shape up into your morning and the weekend coming up. let's go out there live right now and see how the commute is going. 795 at ck ky -- cockeysville road. you get into reisterstown, and you'll find more snow as you head out with the. this snow may not amount to much but it is the timing that's challenging for those trying to get home. it get's worse north and west of the city. that's where we find abc2's joce sterman. >> reporter: as it starts to pick up in terms of what's falling from the sky, it starts to slow down on 83. we saw a lot of cars leaving the

city heading into the northern part of baltimore county getting out of the way so state highway crews could get on the roads. the snow has picked up. we're starting to see some coverage. it's not sticking much to the roads. it's only sticking to the grassy surfaces. we want to show you some of the video we shot earlier today. the state highway administration crews were lined up like battles -- soldiers ready for battle. they were filling up with salt. they have the staff out for that. they started last nights coating the roads with a salt solution to give them a bit of a leds start, anticipating what might be a dicey evening commute in some sections. earlier today they did warn people to head home early and get off the roads before rush our, although no one is expecting a lot of accumulation. they just wanted room to work. >> we were loading up all day today with all of our shops coming in and putting everything

condition. we'll continue to update it on abc2news.com. there are new developments to tell you about after the discovery of a still born baby in a bell hair dumpster overnight. police now say the mother led detectives to the site right off of route 22 where she discarded the baby. >> reporter: tossed in the dumpster like a piece of trash, cor ris little sim a -- carries little sympathy for the baby. >> a world we're living in where people are putting babies in dumpsters, pretty horrible. >> reporter: a baltimore county woman reported disposing of the remains there after giving birth at a relative's home in harford county. >> last night our detectives were called to the 900 block of sablewood road outside of town to recover the body of a small

infant, fetus. the detectives from baltimore county and harford county were directed by a woman who said she had given birth earlier that day to an infant who was still born. >> reporter: when less arrived, they spent two hours securing the area and the coroner was brought in who found two bags with the remains inside and collected them has evidence. detectives transported the unidentified adult woman to upper chesapeake medical center for treatment but they would not say why the same woman who called on the police for help after disposing the fee tups didn't call for -- fee tups -- fetus didn't call for help. >> kind of weird why wow would put it in a dumpster. >> she was probably scared but should have done something different. >> police said the results of the autopsy could take 30 days.

an anne arundel man is accused of stealing $100,000 of top shelf lick complete kyle vin on it brown of annapolis was arrested on 10 warrants in this state and another in new jersey. police believe the thefts took place over a three-year period with six happening in harford county and others as far north as connecticut. let's get to the murder trial of george huguely, accused of killing his ex-girlfriend yeardley love and the woman who knew yeardley love the best, her mother, took the stand. >> reporter: it was certainly a slow moving process monday and tuesday for jury selection but the speed has picked up. we've heard from six witnesses including yeardley love's mother, her sister and roommate.

>> reporter: whitely broke down on the witness stand as she described walking into yeardley love's bedroom and finding her face down in the bed it was bloody. george huguely's defense team plans to argue there was no intent to kill yeardley love, and therefore, there can be no first-degree murder conviction. if fact if there's no intent on felony murder, breaking and entering and larceny, the jury will have to lay quit -- acquit on all of those if they can't get beyond a reasonable doubt. george huguely himself will not testify at his trial, but we will hear from him. the prosecution says they will play a tape of the intervow with the charlottesville police

this is a pet bull believed to be a dogfighting bait dog who was found badly injured. the dog was found six days ago in linthicum. it was in severe pain and could barely movement kelly swoope joins us to explain how the dog is being nursed back to health. >> reporter: the dog was a bait dog. his name is rocky road. animal control officers found the dog in bad shape in the 600 block of andover street. the doctors agreed to treat the dog free of charge. the doctors said the injuries are those consistent were a dog used as bait. his condition is solely improving but animal control is still looking for those responsible. >> we're investigating to see if

give more ammunition in prosecuting home invasion cases. susan lee, surrounded by police and prosecutors want at least 30 years in prison for those who bust into homes with the intent to harm or rob occupants. >> this involves a perpetrator coming in, taking control of the occupants and committing other crimes of violence. it's a very atrocious and horrendous crime. there's been a huge surge in this crime, not just in my county, just about every region. >> lee says there were about 2400 home invasion robberies in maryland last year. a harford county lawmaker wants to impose criminal penalties for those who do not report child abuse. nan say jacobs said senate bill

140 or the penn state law calls for fines and up to one year in jail for failure to report. it's a glaring example of why there needs to be a stronger law. our state has a reporting law on the books but she believes it has no teeth to it. >> maryland is only one of three states that has no penalty for failure to report child abuse. it's time to change that. we don't believe anybody should be exempt from reporting, even if you have suspicions that something has gone wrong and you'll hear some cases behind it, you should report. you should report. let the experts look at the case. >> critics say the proposal could increase the number of

reisterstown and beyond. >> you're going to run into it. >> yes and the extreme northern part of baltimore county. a few flakes mixing in, not adding up to much. let's pinpoint it all down as we can with maryland's most powerful radar. you see the rain snow line. as we zoom in, i want to show you a couple of things. number one, to the south and east it is primarily rain with a little bit of snow, not a lot, though. further north we have more significant, little pockets of snow bursts. one moved out of carroll county. you see the diminishing clearing out. 795 toward reisterstown and as you go 70 west toward mt. airy, some winter weather. we'll continue to keep an eye on it, mainly south and east, kind of ay. 35.

we're three degrees above the freezing mark at bwi right now. we scan show you when it really did come down with some of our hd weather bug cameras, a pretty decent accumulation. even a few of the paveed surfaces when you get this far north in carroll county, some of it sticking. bel air got snow in the afternoon but it kept melting on contact. ellicott city further south snow comes downs in the afternoon but only on the grass. after sunset we see a light accumulation, less than half an inch. even in frostburg, a lot was not sticking. early afternoon snow event has cleared out, very light accumulations even in western maryland. visibility still reduced where the snow is coming down, hagerstown and york. here's our winter weather advisory. the northern tier through 8:00, so a little over an hour or so that will be coming down.

the freeze line just north and west of baltimore, york two below, and you get the idea. as you go north and west a little more accumulation. north and west we'ive degrees above freezing basically telling you as we got some snow it will not have a lot of success freezing. another couple of hours we're done with it. behind this not a lot of new weather coming our way. cooler hair will wrap around this thing, could mean below freezing temperatures from baltimore and annapolis north. first thing, icy spots a concern on secondary nontreated roads. wrote roads will become icy toward daybreak. we clear out and melt off icy spots quickly tomorrow. overnight 30. the snow showers ending. 45. so it all melts quick. tomorrow night 28 clear and dry. seven-day forecast not so bad. back in the mid-40s thursday,

friday, maybe a brief winter mix saturday -- wintery mix saturday morning. jamie. they are trying to rehabilitate the landmark. they plan a restoration that will help preserve it. it's been on york road since 1929. they also plan to add three cinemas and a small restaurant. he said the theater will be shut down to finish off the renovations just in time for the holiday moving season. we'll be right back.
