>> reporter: today in chore chart -- charlottesville, virginia circuit court we find that her blood alcohol level was not high of to kill her. the medical examiner testified that an irregular heart bead, ard yak arrhythmia was the cause of the death. the cause of the arrhythmia, blunt force trauma. two doctors testified they studied yeardley love's brain and instances of bleeding. george huguely's attorney plan to argue that the bleeding could have been caused by cpr. both neuropathologists say they have never seen that happen. the defense will argue that yeardley love's death was cause blade lack of oxygen from passing out drunk in her bed.

a few rain showers but not much. in fact, most of the so-called heartbreaking weather is well north of us in western pennsylvania. i hear the grown -- groans. the good news is temperature wise we're seeing basically not much, mid-50s, now falling to the upper 40s so not all that frigid. any showers that you do experience will be liquid rain showers. no chance for wintry weather, no sleek roads but enough to bring your umbrella along because you don't want your sweetheart to get hit by a shower. we'll talk about how the weekend shapes up. we have ran update on a parking garage attendant who was killed after falling from an automatic lift. >> reporter: investigators are trying to determine exactly what caused this man's depghts. they said the state of the arts

parking system at the palisades parking system was a great system. however, they're trying to determine how it caused this man's death, a man who would go out of his way to help anyone. when it first went into service, there was nothing like this in the area. the auto park system is a way to put a lot of cars in a very tight space by using a computerized system to physically move and stack cars. it had its problem but early monday something went horribly wrong. >> a portion of the park system had fallen to the third floor and the fly e -- employee had fall tonight second floor. >> reporter: the employee, 35-year-old timothy bartholomew was rushed to the hospital where he died from his injuries. >> a very tight knit community.

tim was certainly a resident favorite, very considerate. he lived on our floor, so he was a resident as well as an employee. he was a neighbor, and everybody was just shocked. people gathered in the lobby. people were talking about it. people were crying. >> reporter: state investigators are trying to figure out what happened here. mcdermott said when the system worked it was fine but there were always a lot of repairs being done. >> sometimes computer issues where you would scan your car and it wouldn't know your car was there. sometimes workers would have to go up and manually call down the system to bring your car, retrieve it, but it was more of an inconvenience for so. i personally gave up my access to it. i didn't need this. >> reporter: mcdermott said the owners brought in staff from some of the other people grieve. it's a tight knit community.

the staff and residents get along great. meantime, the state is investigating and it could be weeks before they have an exact cause. reporting live in towson, roosevelt leftwich, abc2 news. >> terrible, terrible. let's get you up to date on this gas main break. abc2 news cheryl conner is in southwest baltimore with the very latest. cheryl? >> reporter: that gas main was here at millington and affecting a senior housing facility and also an elementary school. 900 buildings total. crews from bge will be out here for days after water got into that gas main around 3:30 this morning. linda with bge joins us. certainly a tedious effort. the first you were telling us starts with shutting off gas to the 900 buildings. >> correct. once they worked to row patient

-- repair it, restoring it we have to get into each of the homes, about 900 buildings total to turn the gas off. then we can safely get the gas out of the main, make the repairs and go back in to restart gas service if it's safe to do so. >> reporter: we're talking a multiday effort where you go in and have to go back in. >> a gas outage is different from an electrical outage. 900 customers we can typically restore them on short order. in this case multiple days because you have to physically access each and every building that's been affected and you have to do it twice. we need our customer's help so we can turn the gas off. then we'll make the repairs. then we'll go back in and turn the gas on if it's shave to do so. >> reporter: outbreak for the

update. again, 900 buildings affected. as linda told us they will be out here throughout the night and several days making repairs. for live in southwest baltimore, cheryl conner, abc2 news. >> all right. you've heard whispers of $5 gas coming to a pump near you. the governor is making his gas tax proposal clearer saying a 2 3-bg9 increase who be -- 2% increase would be phased in. if gas prices increase by more than 15% in a year during those first three years, the increase would be delayed. the additional money raised is supposed to be ice foferred -- used for transportation. if you had jury duty and was dismissed, did you go back to work or home. you don't have to go back to work even if you spend 10 minutes at the court.

delicious deseveral whenever -- dessert. your brain release as special chemical. linda so tells us about a remarkable new way it might soon help to fight cancer. >> sandra battled cancer and said besides her faith in good this was often the love for her horses that kept her going. >> huge motivation. >> reporter: horses were both a comfort and motivation for sandra and because of the chemical in her brain known as dopamine. doctors have known for decades that dopamine acts as a reward chemical. >> to find out some very important roles in tumor. >> reporter: it's a role that could be vital. in a lab test he injected dopamine into cancer tumors and showed vastly improved blood flow. in cases like sandra's that

could be crucial. >> there's not the blood flow to the area where the cancer is like a normal organ or something like that and that was a big challenge. >> when dopamine was used, the doctor was able to double the amount of medicine that got into tumors. that could make radiation treatments much more effective. by using dopamine extremely efficient. >> dopamine costs 33 cents. when you compare it to other drugs it's really inexpensive. >> reporter: but could some day prove to be invaluable to those who need this. >> linda tells us the experiment focused on prostate tumors but it could also play a role there treating several types of cancers as well. we have a new health study that may have you thinking twice about your priorities. researchers from northwestern university surveyed 500 adults

about their biggest regrets. most found something to do with love and not work. 56% of the people say they regretted something about a personal relationship. only 26% had regrets about their careers. it's the most romantic day of the year but you forgot to pick up a gift for that special person. you're not alone. we talked to some local florists who say this is their busiest day of the year and they're used to people stopping by for a last-minute bouquet. >> we have a lot sufficient extra designers that we bring in, lots of extra drivers to help get this delivered, lots of patience to deal with the guys who come in at last minute. >> thank you, allison. some local florists have closed up shop. you can always make a nice dinner to show you care.

if you want to stop somewhere in between, you can get some chocolates. we're taking a look at the beltway. let's check in with our weather with meteorologist, he will never, ever break your heart, wyatt. >> keep them coming. maryland's most powerful radar seeing a few light rain showers, much worse far north of us up into pennsylvania. you can see as we take a look at the current conditions as people head out to din are and for a night out 48 degrees, a few showers. no rain observed at the top of the hour. but as we take a look at some of our weather bug cameras, you can see the change through the day. we had amount of midday sunshine but then the clouds rolling in later in the afternoon. we saw the same scenario in the state capital. of those are, a lot of boats out

and about, really decent fair weather but things kind of changing later in the afternoon and a different angle downtown showing that bright sunshine. that allowed temperatures to jump up. we thought we would be overcast for most of the day. so not far below 50. that's after topping out in the mid-50s. 56 the inner harbor. 56 in d.c. these temperatures running a solid 10 to 15 degrees above our average statistically for valentine's day across maryland. you can see a lot of the moisture that was pushing out of the west has surnlgd north. some of this spilled off to the south overnight. we were left with a few trailing showers behind the main core of precipitation which is coming down in the form of snow mixed with rain. other than that, things are going to continue to improve overnight and into the day tomorrow as high pressure slides

in out of the west. perhaps a little cooler as we get a more westerly breeze as opposed to a southerly breeze. so i think we'll be slightly cooler tomorrow. one of the reasons the rain showers, even though they look somewhat impressive on the radar picture are not hitting the ground with much force, dew points in the mid 30s. as we go into the day tomorrow we clear things out, a big day of sunshine with a northwesterly breeze, bringing in some cooler air. i still think we'll be well into the low 50s but perhaps not the mid-50s. we'll trim three degrees or so off our highs. highs have been tricky all week. our trend into thursday, we bring in our next rain system. it could provide wintry weather. for maryland south it looks like a rain event on thursday but tonight just a few light showers really not bad as you take your
