baltimore with an update on the efforts to get it repaired and get schools back -- or get schools underway later today. linda. >> reporter: yeah, we have a new update for you and to tell us is rachel with bge. you are in the process of still turning off gas to the 900 homes and businesses in the area. where do things starred? >> -- stand. >> >> we have turned off the gas at 560 of the buildings and we have a little less than 400 to turn off. we think there's a small percentage that are vacant so we will go in with the fire department and police department for safety and turn off the gas meters. we will probably start going back out to homes around 7 a.m. this morning to begin gaining access to the remaining homes to turn off the gas at the meters. >> reporter: once that happens you make the repairs to the gas line. this is pretty tedious process. then you have to go back to all 900 homes and businesses to turn it back on. >> correct. we have to go to each of the 900 buildings to turn the gas on at each meters he and we have to go and.

now "good morning maryland." welcome back. baltimore city mayor stephanie rawlings-blake has come up with a new plan to manage the grand prix race which has safeguards protecting the city from losing money in the future. sherrie johnson is here with the latest. >> reporter: well, this morning the city's board of estimates meeting officials will unveil a new contract with down force racing. according to published reports

they will runt second annual baltimore grand prixch the contract says a portion of the money from each ticket sold will be placed in a locked box escrow account controlled by a trustee. this will make sure the racing group pays city admission and amusement tax and service fees. it comes after last year's financial problems left millions in unpaid taxes and vendor bills. the lock box eliminate concern the city won't get paid. under the contract the city can also inspect down horse racing financial records at any time to check out the group's debt. the city ended the five-year contract with the baltimore racing development last year after the group had about 12 million dollars in debt. the city's board of estimates meetings starts at nine this morning where they are expected to unveil the new contract. sherrie johnson abc2 news. today the city is expected to announce an extension of the charm city circulateor. board of estimates is expected to approve a plan to use a grand grant from the federal
