their dog. >> reporter: they had come to druid hill to play with their dogs when a bullmastiff scampered over the hill. >> when he ran down, i started walking up and i heard pow. once i got to the top i heard pow and saw him laying to the ground and him walking away. >> reporter: a k9 officer killed the dog with a single shot to the head. while they said their dog only left their sight for a few seconds in his report the officer claim the dog ran up on him showing agrease. the man walking his dog said he held his dog back with one hand, dodging the attacking dog shooting the dog in fear for his life. the report was his dogs with lay that muched to a six foot leash.

the defense attorney took ill. christian schaffer has more. chris stan? >> reporter: all along the attorneys and the judge in the case have talked about wrapping up the case by the weekend. today after losing an entire day the judge is hoping to move the case fairly expeditiously, so we're not certain it will finish by the weekend. the latest twist in the trial of george huguely, an illness for one of his attorneys, rhonda quagliana, no court today, just a temporary delay. >> the case will have to continue. they're not going to retry it. >> reporter: local attorney scott goodman said quagliana likely represented the next witnesses. george huguely is charged with killing yeardley love after breaking a hole in her bedroom door in may of 2010. his defense team said love died

crashed his car. salvador ayala-mendoza was driving when he tried to move around a slower truck and lost croa. it slammed into the back of a truck and caught fire. three people were in the suv but two left on foot before the officers got there. the crash is still under investigation but they believe driver roar and speed likely the cause in this. the man who was rescued from a high rise apartment building last night has died. it started on the 16th floor. officials say they believe the man went into the kitchen because his food in the microwave was burning. he was wearing an oxygen mask and that kind of spread the flames. he was taken to the hospital with second and third degree burns but later died. it's been two days since contractors accidentally broke a gas main but bge is working to get the gas turned back on. while the outage continues, the company has set up a center for
