warming trend and feel the warming trend as well. so temperatures this morning not so bad. the temperatures are above average. we should be at 29 degrees for this time of the year. and that cold front finally starting to work in we are looking at 34 degrees into woodbine and baltimore that temperature coming in at 49 degrees. it is a little breezy this morning. the wind out of the northwest so making it feel like 41 but still that is well above average. as we go through the remainder of today, not so bad in terms of the weather because once again we will be above average. thure now for this time of the year should be at 48. breezy this morning and even into lunchtime but then things will die down going into the evening. lots of sunshine and get out and enjoy it because change is on the way. i will talk about the change but let's check the traffic with angela. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. the tuesday morning drive just a headache for those getting through severna park. we continue to follow the accident we have been reporting on. it's northbound 2 at cypress creek road. a lot of emergency personnel on this scene as we mentioned car

before 8 in the morning yesterday. abc2 news education reporter sherrie johnson joins us with the latest in any new developments in this story. >> reporter: yes, we have all new information this morning. today at 3:30 p.m. the suspected teen gunman will be in court for his first appearance. area clergy have planned another vigil for tonight at 7:00 at church in chardon that's outside cleveland. now today, flags will be flown at half-staff in honor of the victim killed in that shooting. classes are also canceled across chardon today because of the shooting. last night, many people turned out for a prayer vigil at chardon assembly of god church. it was one of several throughout the community to pray for students and teachers and families of the victims. now on monday morning, around 7:30, police say t.j. lane entered chardon high school and opened fire in the cafeteria. 16-year-old daniel parmertor was killed and four other students injured. students say lane was bullied because of goth appearance but

many are trying to come to terms with the loss of their classmate. >> it has not hit me the full impact like what it is going to be like after this. and i am still trying to plan my next move with this whole thing you know mentally. >> reporter: now coming up at 6:00, we will look at the family life of the suspected teen gunman. sherrie johnson abc2 news. police in college park look for a suspect who touched a sleeping student before attempting to steal her computer early sunday inside the cumberland hall. student reported two men look for unlocked doors before police were called. the sleeping student was start led by an intruder who todd her leg and he was challenged by a room made after he made up a story. they say you have to have the key card if you want to get into the building. >> either i guess somebody probably let him in because they do that a lot. if someone is behind you you

hold the door open and i guess that's dangerous. and they are always warning us against that. >> investigators are hoping to come up with a surveillance photo for more than 300 cameras that are located on the campus. baltimore city two cent per beverage bottle tax has not been in effect for two years. already mayor stephanie rawlings-blake says the time has come to more than double it. the mayor's bill came before members of the baltimore city council last night along with a companion bill that would tie the bottle tax money to city school renovation projects. the new five cent per bottle tax will increase the cost of the case of soda by nearly a dollar. and it would barely help repair all of the city schools. >> everybody knows the schools need improvement but my goodness what are they doing with the money. thought there was money allocated for schools. where has that been going? >> i am not inflexible if there are ways to strengthen the legislation to help to level

the playing field i am willing to look at those things, but at the end of the day, we need revenue on the table. >> the next stop for both bills will be the council taxation financial and economic development committee. news around the nation, a los angeles 5th grader is dead after a fight with a classmate and authorities are calling it a homicide. the 10-year-old joanna ramos died of blunt force trauma to the head. all of this was yesterday. police say she left an after school program and got into a fight with another girl over a boy. she walked away from the fight but when she got home, she started to vomit and lost consciousness. no charges have been filed just yet. surveillance cameras caught a crime on tape. two men armed with guns walked right into a bank and they forced employees into a vault and grabbed the cash and walked out. well, two employees that were left and tied up but the police say one of the robbers is quincy benton a regular substitute teacher at an

oklahoma middle school. he passed a national and state background check and the district says that they notified parents and at no time were students in any danger. the houston rodeo starts today. two cows on the loose during the setup for the event. lucy was facial easy to catch. but two-year-old daisy proved to be quite a challenge. kept charging towards anyone who would come close and they hooked her up to a utility cord and held her still until a pen could be moved to her. >> federal prisoners may be able to pass the time by enjoying music on ipad or mp 3. u.s. bureaus of prisons is testing the idea by allowing women in a prison to listen to music. if all goes well it would allow for 200,000 or so inmates nationwide. the prison would basically be able to choose a list of a million approved songs and could help them deal with idleness boredom and stress.

some of the video from the daytona international speedway where the daytona 500 end before one this morning a jet fuel fire seen here postpone the race yet again. racers had to wait two hours while the track was being cleaned up from the fire. the race was postponed until monday at noon because of rain and they didn't see the flag drop until 7 last night because of weather. matt kenseth run and held off dale earnhardt junior the second daytona 500 win. the contract dispute with a union has police lieutenants and sergeants in anne arundel county concerned about public safety. sherrie johnson joins us with more on the contract talks and what it means for you. >> reporter: well, if the county and union can't reach an agreement on the contract today, they could move to arbitration. police lieutenants and sergeants in anne arundel county say the half a million people who live there are in jeopardy. the union says while the population has grown by more than 50,000 people, over the past ten years, the number of

officers is actually down by one. now we talked to community leaders because police lieutenants and sergeants are banned from doing so while the contract is negotiateed with anne arundel county. >> we used to have police officers that would come to the community association meetings. they don't show up anymore. they are too stretched out and too busy. >> reporter: now a county spokesman would say everyone in the county government has seen pay reductions and budget decreases over the past couple years. and they have seen overall crime decrease over the period and when the economy -- improves public safety is the top priority. sherrie johnson abc2 news. we have a consumer alert. it's nissan drivers that need to listen up. 79,000 cars are recalled to fix a gasoline leak they are calling nissan juke suvs and infinity suv and infinity sedans from the 2011 to 2012

maintain and improve the water infrastructure. this is happening at 10 this morning. baltimore county executive ken kamenetz want to share theimportance of reading and also that emphasis on school kids he is doing so later today. all part of the national read across america day. executive came nets will read to stewed -- came knits will read to -- kamenetz will read to students. and as he reads to children, he is going to take time today to focus on a recycling record that residents have helped break. people in baltimore county helped recycle more than 51,000 tons of items last year. this was an all time record for baltimore county and the first time that 50,000 tons that mark has been reached now kevin kamenetz will speak later this morning during an event that will happen in sparrows point. the poor may seem to have the most reason to cheat or steal, the rich may be the most likely to be dishonest.
