5:45 am
you mentioned, three students here at chardon high, wounding two others. yesterday, though, they were able to march to school, sort of an easier transition for them with their parents, but today they will be going back to school alone. it's been a very tough week for them. the community, though, has stood by them the entire time, even yesterday when the kids were marching to school, they were clapping and cheering for them, showing their support. there's red ribbons everywhere, there's been vigils, a lot of prayers really from all over the country. this has not just hit chardon, this has hit this entire world. of course a very tough day. but there is going to be extra police presence around the school today to kind of make kids feel safer. back to you. >> kristin, let me ask you, have you talked to any parents or students who feel like maybe it's too soon or do they feel it's time to go back? reporter: you know, we talk today a handful of students and parents and it's one of those things where some are ready, some are not. i think it's one of those
5:46 am
things when it comes to healing that everyone is going to be different at the point when is they're ready to move on. so there's kind of been mixed feelings about their full day starting friday. but, you know, in talking with some of the students, at least in my personal experience, they're saying they want to be around each other. they want to be with their fellow classmates because they need that support right now. >> kristin, you were talking about the national response to this. we heard from one of the mothers of one of the victims yesterday saying that she had support from avenues she never even imagined. what are you guys seeing in and around chardon regarding that national response and the show of support. reporter: yes. well, you know, it's been pretty amazing and i was at a press conference yesterday and was listening to the parents talk. one of the parents were saying we've gotten calls from south america, from spain, from colorado, from las vegas, people just want to know how they're doing. they want to say they're sorry for the lives lost and they want to pray for these people.
5:47 am
so that's what we've been seeing. of course, all different media outlets are here from all over the world. but as people are saying, this is not just a time for these students and staff to heal, this is a time for the whole world to heal and the superintendent said the world is going to watch us heal. back to you. >> kristin byrne, thank you so much for the time this morning. in wisconsin a student has been arrested after creating a list of students that he wanted to shoot. the 16-year-old was arrested on wednesday after officials found that list containing the names of 26 students he says bullied him. officials say that there is no evidence that the teen brought a gun to sparta high school. he is being held outside the county and will be evaluated by mental health officials. former democratic presidential candidate john edwards has been cleared to go to trial next month for violations of campaign finance laws. edwards' day in court has been delayed due to a previously unknown heart condition. the former north carolina senator is accused of using campaign funds to hide his affair with staffer rielle
