through the remainder of today into these areas. yes, we're looking at tornado alley. as we look at the red outline there, we do have a moderate risk for large hail, damaging winds and tornadoes. the storm prediction center does have us in that. but we are in this area, this bluish color and that just means that we do have the chance for some showers and thunderstorms to pop up as we go into the afternoon, but nothing severe whatsoever. temperatures for this morning the big story, with the cold weather coming in to stevenson, good morning to you, coming in right around 32 degrees. let's get a check now of the traffic with bill. good morning. reporter: starting out on the harrisburg expressway, pretty normal past cockiesville and down to the beltway, no problems on the jfx, normal building but no incidents into downtown. 795 all clear from owens mills to the beltway. i-70 looks good from fredrick on past 29 and the beltway there. also the run from hartford county looks good, building a little bit around the white marsh area. nothing unusual. everything looks good through the beltways and on to the tunnels. 95 running smoothly from the

laurel area 395 to the tolls. getting heavy on the beltway from 95 to fredrick road, just some slow traffic that you normally would see. and on the top side building but still flowing from 95 through towson. we do have a couple of snenlts to be aware of, police activity affecting both northbound and southbound greenbelt avenue add madison street and a water main break on southbound york road at stevenson lane, left lane is closed there. you may want to stick with i- 83. now back to you. 6:31 right now. 33 degrees. new court documents are shedding more light into the jerry sandusky sex abuse case. abc 2 news' linda stow is standing by with all the new developments in this investigation. linda, what have you found? reporter: we've learned prosecutors claim that jerry sandusky's alleged victims are 8 to 17-year-old, eight of whom they say were molested on the penn state campus. the new details are according to a document filed by the attorney general's office on thursday. prosecutors say one of the alleged victims was abused in florida and texas and another boy while at his own home. two of the alleged victims

remain unidentified. sandusky has been on house arrest awaiting his trial in may. he's charged with 52 criminal counts stemming from allegations he abused boys in his home, in state college hotels, at penn state athletic facilities and inside a car. jury selection in the trial is tentatively set for may 14th. linda sphoa, abc 2 news. news time now 6:32. a high school valedictorian with big dreams says her future could be ruined during an immigration find. late they are month, danielle palez and her sister are scheduled to be headed back to colombia. however, she has a 4.0 grade point average and applied to dartmouth and yale. she came to the u.s. with her parents back in 1991. her parents since divorced in 1996. her mom went back to colombia for medical reasons and now the government has denied her access back into the u.s. palez now lives with her father who's a resident but on monday a judge decided she and her sister could no longer be here.

>> i want to be a heart surgeon. i love school, i'm the valedictorian of my high school. >> more than 3,000 people have already signed an online petition to stop palez from being deported. the girl's attorney is appealing the court decision and now students are rallying to her side. they're going to walk out of class today as a show of solidarity and protest. tensions now are escalating in southern california and it's all because of this occupy protesters. they say a driver tried to run them over. [ screaming ] >> protesters tried to block off access to the campus yesterday morning, however, things turned really violent with the driver who was trying to get to work. >> i think students should be allowed on campus. i know they blocked all the classes on campus, but i think this is unfair for students. >> yesterday marked the kickoff of the national occupy education. it will last more than three days and will end in california

with a rally in sacramento on monday. in indiana a man is now recovering after a 3,000-pound concrete vault fell on a graveyard worker. that man survived. the vault pinned him. all of this is wednesday morning. he and a coworker were lowering that vault into the ground when the accident happened. doctors say the man lost some circulation to his legs, but otherwise, get this, he's expected to be just fine. we learned overnight that a skier swept away in an avalanche near lake tahoe has died. one of them was able to get out and call for help. rescue teams reached the man a couple of hours and they got him to an ambulance. he later died at a hospital. rescuers say the group was skiing in the back country area of those mountains. near sacramento, california, a car crashed into not one, not two, but three northern california homes. police say a jeep cherokee was driving so fast that the driver lost control on a curb, smashed through a fence, hit a few tree stumps and then hit all three homes. that jeep finally careened into house number three, smashing

into the side of that house. no word yet on whether or not that driver is going to be charged. a bank manager may choose to stay home, take some time off after being held hostage in southern california. this happened early yesterday afternoon after police say a suspect rob add bank. a s.w.a.t team ended up opening fire on the suspect and arrest ago bank -- and rescuing a bank manager. investigation revealed no word on the suspect's condition this morning. some brides waited weeks to get their hands on their wedding gowns. >> the tension that erupted after one bridal store announced they were bankrupt. e. they want to know more about how they were raised, what they were fed. we spend a lot of time on the feed because a chicken is what it eats. island hoping to finally get the gowns they had paid for. for weeks they had no idea that their dress was still in the store. so some issues have been settled, however, not everybody is happy about it. alexander crowley has more from rhode island this morning. reporter: the last time these ladies were here, they found the wedding gown of their dreams, but after cinderella bridal salon in west warwick went bankrupt, they weren't sure if they'd ever see their gowns again. >> they told us to leave it here and they'll do the alterations for us, so we said, okay, we'll let you sew that and obviously a bad idea. >> i'm staying very optimistic that it's in there. >> a little disappointing, but hopefully it'll have a positive ending and we'll walk out all happy. reporter: one by one skeptical bride-to-bees were led into the salon to hunt down their dress. the brides were told their dresses were here, but none of them believed it until it was in their hands. for many the uncertainty faded and many walked away gown in

hand. >> so relieving. reporter: but danielle wasn't so lucky. her name was on the wrong dress. after picking through the racks, her mom found the right one. >> pretty happy right now. reporter: the excitement grew until this woman found her dress had been given to someone else and her name was scratched out on the tag. >> we're not going to let you take the dress if it -- we can't take the dress, it clearly mismatches this. >> we have a court order, unfortunately, that we advised this woman that the dress was here. reporter: by court order, the dress can't be given away until the other bride turns it down. >> i'm not going to leave it here. >> that was alexandria kelly reporting. 22 women were able to pick up their gowns yesterday. if others aren't claimed within the next 10 days, they could be sold to other boutiques in the next couple of weeks.

temperatures this morning, a little bit on the chilly side. you definitely will need a big coat. satellite and radar widens out and the severe weather that they were just talking about, well, we can see it now starting to push into kentucky, tennessee, even into south carolina, working its way into north carolina, missouri, all these places did have severe thunderstorm warnings and we still do have some into missouri as of now. we do have a severe thunderstorm watch. no type of tornado watch or tornadoes but as we go into the afternoon, yes, things are definitely going to be a possibility as it really gets amped up there. you're getting that gulf of mexico moisture across that area, so they definitely do have that possibility. for us maybe a rumble of thunder as we go into the afternoon, but mainly the wet weather will get in here as we go later into the overnight into tomorrow morning with the thunderstorms in the forecast for us. right now the big story this morning, temperatures, yes, remember yesterday, we were in the 50s, we were lovin' it, at least a lot of you were. but for today, 32 degrees into goldsboro and elkton coming in at 33 degrees. ellicott city right around 37

and the winds not a big factor for this morning, but they will start to pick up as we go into the afternoon. so i say maybe about five to 10 miles an hour. all in all not a bad morning, not a bad day, but we will start to see increasing clouds. let's get a check now of that traffic with bill. good morning. reporter: and it's not a bad day on the roads either. no real surprises out there as the morning rush kicks in. northbound 95 from anne arundel county running good all the way past 395 up to the tolls. southbound 95 from hartford county seeing building normally around white marsh mall and then opening past the beltway down to the tolls. top side of 695 running pretty smooth from 95 all the way through towson. if you're on the 83, you're on the harrisburg expressway, flows smoothly past the valley area, but then is slows down to padonnia road to the beltway. on the jfx, looks clear downtown. i-70 also looks clear from 29 to the beltway and the beltway 95 to fredrick road, again,

slow but steady. southbound york road at stevenson road is where we have a water main break. that has the left lane closed. you may want to stick with 83 through there. and police activity is affecting northbound and southbound greenview avenue at madison street. that's traffic. now back to you. this morning students at a high school just outside of cleveland, ohio in chardon will be heading back to class for the first time since monday's deadly shooting. three students died, two others were wounded. on the same day that students head back to classes, visitation is scheduled today for one of those teens who was killed. funerals are set for next week. and as all this is happening, violence at a school in chicago, two students were stabbed as they prepared to go through security at a checkpoint at a school yesterday. one of those teens died. the other suffered serious injuries. the suspected attacker a 17- year-old who's now in police custody. administrators plan to reopen the school today and grief counselors will be on hand. it is official, maryland has signed the same-sex marriage bill into law. but despite -- but this fight is far from over.

linda stow is here to explain what opponents plan to be doing in the coming months to get this law overturned and get it into voters' hands. reporter: they'll being out a petition collecting as many signatures they can. governor o'malley was joined by lawmakers as he signed the bill into law last night. outside the statehouse, supporters gathered to witness the bill signing, but opponents are vowing to get the law erased. the maryland marriage alliance says it's printing the petition form and will start collecting the 55,726 signatures needed to send the issue to referendum. some lawmakers took jabs at the governor's intentions. >> i have in my hand a pencil and it has an eraser on the end. they might as well have signed that bill in the lead. reporter: now, the bill allows the first gay marriages to happen beginning of next year. if 1/3 of those signatures are collected by may 31st and the remaining by june 31st, it will go on the november ballot.

a recent poll shows 49% of marylanders are in favor of same-sex marriage and 47% oppose it. linda stow, abc 2 news. and all new this morning, video just released from a hit and run in laurel. police say they've not identified the driver just yet, but this video we're showing you this morning captured by a metro bus says they're going to help track down this driver. the victim was hit wednesday on route 1 nay. the white pick-up truck hit the pedestrian who was then thrown 30 feet down a hill. he suffered several broken bones, currently in critical condition this morning. le hartford county sheriff's deputy will undergo surgery on his arm. this is going on today. he suffered a serious cut to the arm after chasing a suspect who eventually got away. the deputy was responding to what came in as a home invasion call in edgewood. two people were arrested but a third remains on the run. >> the third dove through a plate glass window and in diving through the plate glass window, the deputy tried to stop the individual and received a severe cut to his

arm. >> the deputy has been on the force now for two years. news time right now 6:49. aberdeen police used a taser on a man wednesday night before arresting him after a girls' basketball playoff game. aberdeen had just defeated digital harbor for the second time this season. 30-year-old tiana carroll was trying to leave but for security reasons wouldn't allow him to use the door, so he got into it with police, and when they wouldn't let him by, this is what happened. >> things got out of control. the officers went to arrest this individual, trying to get him to comply. he failed to comply at that point in time and the officer used his department-issued taser and was able to take the suspect into custody. >> police arrested carroll, but he is out this morning. a baltimore city school spokeswoman says he works with the school system, but was at the game as a parent. a piece of history is now leaving the inner harbor in baltimore. the carousel that has been there for the past 31 years now

being taken down. the owner, richard knight had planned to fight the city's decision, but it appeared to be a battle that he was not going to win. knight bought the 106-year-old ride and brought it to the inner harbor back in 1981. he's now starting to take it down. city officials say he had not been paying his rent. >> we give them other proposals of what we needed to make this work, and it fell on deaf ears. >> a city official told abc 2 news the likely replacement for that spot next to the maryland science center is is another carousel. richard knight says that he plans to reopen the carousel when he can, but not in baltimore city. a safety alert for you on this friday morning. the fbi now saying cyber threats are becoming the nation's number one overall threat. fbi director robert miller said the cyber threats would surpass terrorism as the country's top concern. he testified in january.

collecting more healthier foods than in years past. and governor martin o'malley will emphasize the importance of reading today. this morning around 10:30, he's going to kick off the read across maryland month at the southwest baltimore charter school. according to the carroll county times, the baltimore ravens are expected to designate pro bowl running back ray rice as their franchise player today. rice is expected to receive more than $7 1/2 for the tag. and the trial for hate crimes for samuel mullet and his sons. he today house democratic whip steny hoyer of maryland will join other lawmakers on a civil rights pilgrimage. next week marks the 47 the anniversary of bloody sunday in alabama. that's when police attacked hundreds of demonstrators. so we have all the

ingredients once again for another round of some severe weather and we're looking at that severe weather around the gulf coast states, central gulf coast states all the way up through the ohio valley. so this is the setup. we do have an upper level low that's moving out of the rockies, that's one ingredient. then we have that warm gulf of mexico moisture moving in across the area as well. and then we have a strengthening surface low. so with all that we definitely do have that potential for some severe weather to move in across the middle of the nation once again for today. the weather pattern shows this warm front. this will be moving into our area as we go later into the evening. but that warm air is already in place, so you're already seeing some showers and thunderstorms popping up along that front into kentucky, also tennessee, south carolina, missouri, definitely have severe thunderstorm warnings and several of them in place right now. what we're going to be waiting for too is a cold front to pass through the area as we go into tomorrow. that's going to be giving us a

better chance for some showers and thunderstorms early in the morning. so futuretrend picking up on the fact that that warm front slides into the area, brings us a chance for those showers, maybe a rumble of thunder as we go into 7:00. there's that cold front. that traverses the area tomorrow morning. we can still see another round of some showers and thunderstorms. this is your better chance of the showers and thunderstorms, that rumble of thunder that i'm talking about. on the back side of that cold front, we are going to be wrapping in some snow. you see that into west virginia, back into western pennsylvania, but we won't get that, we'll just get some colder air. today's temperature right around 57 degrees. and by tonight 47, mild and breezy. and here's a check of that seven-day forecast for you, as we will get cooler, 46 on monday and 48 on tuesday, but we will see ample sunshine in the forecast and temperatures once again a roller coaster. let's get a check now of traffic with bill. good morning. reporter: it's looking good on the roadways so far. off to a good start from hartford county, billing a bit through the white marsh area before the beltway, then it opens up after the beltway all
