a lot of people want to know how the commute is going to be and how the day is going to be. here's lynette. >> the sunshine is out there already. you saw it on the baltimore camera. it's a welcome wednesday. we will be warming up as we go through today and we do have rain chance that's will be getting closer. we'll spring forward as we head into the weekend. so temperature this morning, the big story once again. coming in around 35 degrees. yes, we are above average but still chilly. easton's temperature close to 40. and frederick around 35. more good news to deliver. that the winds aren't really picking up yet. but as we go into the afternoon that is when they will really start to do their thing. maryland's most powerful doppler radar is dry now. and it will stay that way even as we go into the afternoon. i will have that bus stop forecast coming up for you but now let's check the roads with angela. and you can answer the question. it's busy out there. a couple of incidents, accident

at maryland 100 and 295, bw parkway. also reisterstown road on the approach to 795, got some delays behind that accident as well. but for those of you traveling on i-95, coming in from harford county, not a bad drive on the start. we're not seeing any delays on 95 as you make the drive from harford county heading to the top side of the beltway. here's a live look on 895, just north of charles street, pretty good here in the southbound direction, you will tap the brakes of course as you approach the toll plaza. if you are traveling on the beltway now, your trip on the west side from 795 heading towards pikesville and the catonsville region, slow in separate stretches. here's a live look at liberty road. though we're seeing more activity our drive times are pretty good on 83 and 59 on the approach to the beltway. 95. once you get to the beltway, top side, six minutes from bel air to providence road. the west side now nine minutes from 795 to i-70. 6:31. we're getting new information this morning about a strange

illness that caused members of a family in calvert county to get sick. linda so joins us with the latest. >> reporter: this is all new information we got overnight. test results confirm two of the family members had the flu and it may have been complicated by a bacterial infection. we're waiting to get results on the other family member who died. it started with an elderly woman who got sick about two weeks ago. her three adult children came to care for her at her calvert county home. they also developed similar flu-like symptoms. the mother, son and daughter died. the other daughter was hospitalized and is being treated. the calvert county health department is reminding people that the flu season is not over so it's important to take the proper precautions. phone calls went out yesterday to parents of school-aged children. >> does anybody really know what is going on? it's like the plague. it scares me if i request home tonight and my kids get a sniffle or cough i'll be finished. >> reporter: as of 11 : 30 last night we learned no other

after rescuing a man from a burning call. it was happening last september in salem. the video was captured on dash cam. the car was speeding down the road, crashing and downed power lines. the man was saved in time. >> he was basically passed out, knocked out, unconscious when it got to him. >> you see the movies, cars crash, burst into flames. statistically speaking it's not the norm. it's very rare. >> i understand the rescue wasn't easy. the officers had to climb through the passenger side to get the man out. the officers received medals of valor but say they were simply doing their job. lava consumes the last home in a subdivision in hawaii. jack thompson went back to see the place. fortunately he had time to escape with some of his things. over the past 30 years thompson said the lava swallowed up all the homes in the subdivision sparing his until now. winter has now come forward

a check of the traffic. how are the roads? i know you have a couple of accidents. >> that's right. two locations with accidents. still seeing residual delays though the accident cleared, especially at maryland 100 and the bw parkway. still very slow. you may want to hop on 95 if you need to take 295 instead because of those residual delays from the accident. also, reisterstown road at 795 still facing slow traffic behind that accident. now, speaking of the beltway, very slow on the west side of 695. live look at baltimore national pike, outer loop lanes on the brakes from 795 in separate stretches as you make your way to i-95 on the southwest side. for those of you traveling on i-935, here's a live look, i-95, southbound direction there, heaviest delays from the beltway to the city at the fort mchenry tunnel. democracy 2012, while you were sleeping gop presidential hopeful mitt romney won the

crucial battleground state of ohio and alaska, this is after midnight. he captured six states, rick santorum won three states while newt gingrich held home court by winning his state of georgia. romney padded the delegate lead in the race for the republican presidential nomination but forced to share the super tuesday spotlight with rick santorum. santorum picked up the winds -- wins like we said, strengthening his case he's the top choice among republicans on the conservative side. in ohio exit polls showed more than half the voters said romney is the best candidate with the chance of beating president obama. >> i'm not going to let you down. i'm going to get this nomination. [ cheering and applause ] >> we're going to get at least a couple of gold medals and a whole pass of silver medals. >> santorum, newt gingrich and ron paul are adamant they are staying in the race which means romney is unable to turn his focus on the general election. again, that's coming up in november.

for the latest updates on the presidential race go to abc2news.com. click on the news, then politics tab. everything you need to know for your election coverage. 6:47 now. the house of delegates ways and means committee will have a noncitizen voting bill, today at 1:00. it would stop noncitizens from voting anywhere in maryland. right now seven towns in maryland permit noncitizen voting and allow them to hold municipal office elections. also today in annapolis, people will be gathering at lawyers mall in front of the state house today, to rally for tobacco and tax increases. it will be at noon, the bill will be heard in the general assembly today. the tax would raise money for public health programs and would affect cigarettes, cigars and smokeless tobacco products. governor o'malley's budget does look at ways to raise the wholesale tax for cigarettes. we're talking about 15% to 66%. judicial proceedings committee will hold a hearing on the death penalty. that is around 1:00 this afternoon.

that bill will repeal the death penalty in maryland. it was one of the first states prohibiting the exhibition of minors and those with intellectual disabilities. the goal of this bill was to abolish the death penalty altogether. faith leaders will be there, testifying in favor of the abolition of the death penalty. consumer alert for parents this morning. >> baltimore city has issued a violation to a store that sold jewelry to kids containing very high levels of lead. >> linda so here with what you need to know. parents, pay attention. >> reporter: we've learned the tainted jewelry was sold at the clever mart in the 200 block of north highland avenue. here's what the jewelry looks like. a mickey mouse house ring charm. testing showed excessive levels of lead. the second item, similar-looking ring but with the hat. if you bought any of these things for your kids, the health department says throw them out immediately. high levels of lead in kids' toys and jewelry can cause a

host of health problems and worst case, death. you should never let your kids suck on or chew a medal charm or necklace. linda so, abc2 news. news time 6:49. frostburg state university is holding a series of dialogues aimed at reducing violence on and off its campus. the first session today is intended to explore tensions in the community. it's part of a set of initiatives triggering the off campus stabbing of a student death in november. this was sophomore courtney mccoy of baltimore. the second violent death in frostburg of the students there in 19 months. all new this morning, a deadly crash in carroll county. maryland state police are now saying the driver from eldersburg ran a red light in sykesville and was killed. it happened before 10:30 last night on routes 26 and 32. police are saying suzanne mercier was t-boned by drivers who had a green light.

she died at the scene. one of the drivers was taken to the hospital. 6:49. you may have to change both your driver's license in maryland if you're an active military member or veteran. lawmakers are considering adding a military designation to all cards. they would indicate active duty or veteran set stus. vet sanscy -- veterans say it will help them when trying to get discounts at stores. >> i think it's a great idea. it will eliminate a lot of the paperwork and hassles to go through to get certain types of benefits. >> other benefits can be easier for a service member -- service members suffering from post-traumatic stress to alerlt authorities of their condition. teachers and advocates will testify in support of the bill for a massive school construction program. if it passes city schools could borrow large amounts of funding up front to begin the projects.

some celebrities including lady gaga have joined the fight against bullying. today arundel high school is holding anselm assembly about bullying. sherrie johnson has more. >> reporter: we're at arundel high school in gambrills where students will be in for a treat, a assembly on bullying prevention. the gay/straight alliance is hosting the assembly. it will be a series of four assemblies during class time. we have students out here. we also have alisa phoenix, adviser, one of the advisors, for the group. good morning. >> good morning. >> reporter: tell us a little about why you're having this assembly and why you're inviting joseph baker. >> the assembly itself is an anti-bullying initiative. it has more focus on sexual orientation bias because it's one of those subjects that is not touch on as much but it's just as much of an issue.

for tonight that temperature coming in around 42 degrees. we'll have a few clouds out there, won't be as cold but the reason why is that southwesterly flow is really going to help to warm up the temperatures for this afternoon and also for this evening. by tomorrow, even warmer, so if you like the 63 i'm forecasting for today, 68 and maybe even 70s. i'm thinking some spots will hit 70s but i'm keeping it conservative this morning. as you look at the 7-day forecast, we are looking at temperatures that still will stay above average. we head into friday where we have rain in the forecast for you. and then by saturday that cold front really moves through, drops those temperatures off but the big story on the weekend is don't forget to spring forward because you will be looking a little bit strange when you go to church services and you're a little bit early. angela has traffic. good morning. >> good morning. on the harrisburg expressway, you may want to take 45, york road, getting reports of an scent southbound 83 at
