>> john hopkins said hiv infection in african-american women is much higher. >> reporter: a handful of women were surprised to find out they had been infected. a year after joining the study, the rate rivaled that found in some african countries. for baltimore's assistant health commissioner, he said the johns hop kens study focused on poor african-americans in the inner city. he claims it's a group where you would expect to find a higher rate. >> you don't want to generalize and say all african-american women in baltimore fit that profile. >> reporter: in baltimore the city has been focusing on those high risk groups providing more than 45,000 high risk screenings each year.

authorities believe 30-year-old john shick is the shooter. they are trying to digest what happened. >> we saw all the action, police cars, people being pulled out on gurneys, the s.w.a.t. team. we put the news on and heard there was a shooting. >> reporter: police say it's too early to tell what led to the shooting but it was a puring pittsburgh police officer who shot and killed shick. hundreds of videos have been popping up on line of people taking the cinnamon challenge. you take a tease spoon of it downtown having anything to drink but this trick could be a health risk. >> it was mary poppins who said

the rule and not quite as warm but still a decent day in the harbor, decent day in annapolis. good day to get out and do a little sailing. sunshine's out. getting ready for a fantastic sunset here at drve at -- at kent island. as we take a look at the extended scan north, you can see through pennsylvania, a couple of wintry type showers toward williams point. this is fizzling out. temperature wise, 50 in winchester now. 37 in hagerstown. you get the idea there's some colder air that will funnel. tonight we're not mid-50s but the northwest winds will keep pushing in cooler and cooler air tonight. tomorrow a struggle, i think to get out of the 40s for most of us. highs today were in the low 60s.

this is little ms. leading -- misleading. it had not made it into the inner harbor, d.c. or annapolis or cambridge, so these numbers were just after midnight. we never quite warmed up through the day. across the region you can see clearly the front that came through. you can she that boundary just offshore. this will continue to push further and further out. as it does so, it will help drag in cooler air. as we look at the overall pattern, again, those renegade showers. cooler air wrapping in behind this thing. very dry conditions across most of the eastern u.s. this will be a brief shot but quite a cold shot and very dry air in police tonight and into -- place tonight and into the day tomorrow. very little new active weather.

forward. >> i love. it i'm all for it and ready for spring. forget winter. it was the worst one ever, the i'm -- lamest. didn't get any snow. the february's jobs report was released. roosevelt leftwich is here with more on that. >> reporter: the latest jobs report shows progress but unemployment is still quite high and job creation is still slow but steady. the labor says 227,000 jobs were added last month making it the strongest three months of the labor market since the recession began four years ago. president obama who toured a car plant in virginia said the jobs numbers are a very positive sign. >> the economy is getting stronger. when i come to places like this and i see the work that's being done, it gives me confidence that there's better days ahead.

>> reporter: but the unemployment rate is still stuck at 8.3. the labor department says this is the first time in five months it hasn't dropped. analysts say at this rate it could take four years to get the unemployment rate back down to 5%. addiction is a battle many people face, but the numbers are stunning. up next, a new study breaks down how many americans have overcome addiction. and it could be a big surprise for moms and dads to be. how often families expecting fraternal twins get identical babies and why.

in tonight's health alert, one in 10 american adults has had a problem with addiction and overcame it according to the new york office of substance abuse services. the researchers also found 34% of americans had successfully quit smoke. a new study out of emory university found that married adults who go out of the knife are three times more likely than singles to survive. 500 people were surveyed. the scientists believe the differences were partly due to outlook. the married patients were more positive about their chances of recovering. parents of twins have experienced this before, but a new study is backing them up. researchers from the university college london found that 25% to 33% of the time expectant

right now, a wake is being held for a 13-year-old girl gund down in a baltimore alley last weekend. the funeral for 13-year-old monae turnage will be held saturday at southern baptist church on chester street. the hiv infection rate among african-american women in baltimore is five times higher than previously thought according to a new study by researchers at johns hopkins. the study was aimed at 2,000 women in baltimore and five other cities. the health commissioner said it focused on poor african-american women in inner cities with a high rate of sexual partners, unprotected sex and drug use, a group you would expect to see high hiv rates. the latest dare making rounds on the internet could be dangerous. it shows videos making the

cinnamon challenge seem like a joke. the game where people try to swallow a spoon full of cinnamon without anything to drink can have serious health consequences. maryland is trying to join more than a dozen states, and washington, d.c. to legalize marijuana. some lawmakers are again pushing to legalize pot for a purpose. don harrison talked with lawmakers fronting the fight. they are trying to persuade them to give the okay for marijuana to be given to marylanders suffering from different ailments. one bill would have closely watched programs by an educational research institution. another bill would have state run growers and dispensers. that is where the state has problems. some states that legalize marijuana programs have withdrawn them
