spending so much money now. alarming new research that suggests that fap -- african-american women in baltimore may be contracting hiv at a rate five times previously thought. >> reporter: at a mobile health clinic on pennsylvania avenue people come to get a free hiv screening, knowing the aids virus continues to playing their neighborhood. many know of victims first hand. >> they're not doing good and really think people should get tested. >> reporter: a new study out of johns hopkins shows that african-american women in baltimore are contracting hiv at five times the rate. the study showed new cases emerging at a rate that rivals

that of women in african countries, but the assistant health commissioner said compared to the infection rate among all women you can expect to find a higher one in poor, inner city subjects where drugs, binge drinking and unprotected sex with multiple partners make them higher risk. >> you don't want to generalize and say therefore all african-american women in baltimore fit that profile. >> reporter: she is a patient advocate at johns hopkins. she contracted the virus in the mid-'90s. >> they said they had bad news for me. they told me i had full blown aids and had three to four months to live. >> reporter: henry said one of the biggest challenges is the lack of health coverage. most of them don't seek out hiv testing and only chic medical care when they have to she's there to help them deal with it once they learn they're infected. >> some have laved life-style of

substance abuse and they feel that some deserve it because of the life-style. others say i don't deserve this. i wasn't dog this. i wasn't dog that. i share with them my story and that's what makes the difference. >> reporter: in baltimore, jeff hager. >> the city says there are seven mobile vans six days a week. now on to calvert county where tonight authorities found what they believe to be a newborn infant in the trunk of a car. the family that owns the car was cleaning this out when they opened the trunk and found the body. they called police or investigating. they are interviewing members of the family. the turnage family will be spending the weekend laying 13-year-old monae turnage to rest. she was shot and killed last weekend. while two juveniles were

charged, baltimore city police are currently investigating one of their own. while monae turnage is being laid to rest, her story is alive for her family and strangers. >> reporter: the viewing of monae turnage started today at 9:00. it's the beginning of what will be a long emotional weekend for her family. it's not just family and friends, but complete strangers have been stopping by the funeral home. while the story of what happened to the 13-year-old is not quite solved, it's tragedy that many in their community feel need their condolence. >> i lost a child in '08. her death was tragic. >> reporter: now the formal wake for monae turnage goes until

7:00 tonight. at 10:00 tomorrow morning the family will receive friends at at -- pat southern baptist church. police say they are still working on the investigation and have not released any new developments today. the -- first rocky road and now princess. for the second time in a month a dog has been brought in to anne arundel county showing evidence of dog fighting. she was found on ritchie highway near 11th avenue. this happened weeks after someone found this dog, rocky road in the same area. we're told rocky road is recovering and will need veterinarian care for a few weeks. >> she's wrapped up and bandaged at this point. she's recovering well. they have her in an isolated area and they're monitoring her

wounds. >> anyone with information about the cases is asked to call police or animal control. an update on a story we first brought you at 11:00. anne arundel county's fire chief is responding after firefighters said they have no confidence in the leadership. the case against john robert ray came less than a week after a grand jury indicted county executive john leopold. it's being seen by some has fallout from that indictment. in a statement chief ray wrote i have proudly served the citizens of anne arundel county for 34 years and believe my record speaks for itself. he will work closely with the firefighters union to resolve any issues. leslie johnson is expected to serve time in prison today. johnson was sentenced for a year

getting better. we added 227,000 jobs in the u.s. while that news is encouraging, some analysts say the weather could be playing a part and giving a false sense of security. john matarese explains why. >> reporter: some of the recent good economic news the result have warm weather? that's what one report is claiming saying the warm weather may be cooking the data. consumers don't really stay inside when the cold winds blow in january and februaryy. cold weather means empty restaurants and car lots. this winter, the fourth warmest in history has changed that and people are getting out. it meant retailers saw near record sales in february of this year. auto dealers report big jumps in new car sales. even home sales are ticking up with warmer days for home biers. the report said this winter's heating bills are a factor with
