harbor on this monday march 19th. good morning. i am sherrie johnson. megan pringle and charley crowson have the day off. we have something to tell you about this morning. due to fog, queen anne county schools will be an 90-minute delay no a.m. concerned garden and kent county -- faux a.m. kindergarten. and kent county schools are on a delay. the fog is causing a few problems this morning. >> exactly. we have the delays you are talking about and also a couple showers trying to stream into area as we go later through the morning and also popping back up into the afternoon. but, what we have this morning is the fact that patchy fog is out there. and that will continue so we do have reduced visibility now in baltimore four mile visibility more in frederick and we have been updated in new york and pennsylvania. be prepared. make sure to have the low beams on. we look at maryland's most powerful radar and we are dry for the most part. but if you are going into

western maryland, that's where you are seeing the bulk of the rain pushing into cumberland let's check the traffic with angela because i know you have accidents out there and a lot of foggy conditions as well. >> reporter: that's right. we are still seeing a lot of fog out there on the traffic cameras. and as far as accidents go, southbound 795 approaching franklin boulevard, on the scene still maryland state police are there. they have moved the accident over to the shoulder but of course we are seeing brief delays behind that accident. and in the meantime, let's get a look at the conditions out there. the southeast side of 695 at the bw parkway no delays to report on this stretch of the beltway. a relatively nice ride as you make your drive onto the bw parkway. northbound a little heavy approaching the city. in the meantime, this is the west side of the beltway heading out to 695, not too bad yet. outer loop lanes slow through pikesville and parkville and through catonsville. it's about a 10-minute drive on that west side as we get a look at our drive time starting from

i-70. from i-795 heading to i-70. also want to point out southbound 95 from white marsh to 695 it's a 9 minute drive. had a disabled vehicle on the stretch as you approach 895 and, of course, that's impacting the volume delays there. sherrie back over to you. >> thanks. time is 6:31. there's new hope this morning for a possible medical breakthrough for those suffering from alzheimer's disease. abc2 news linda so is here with details on the ground breaking study. linda. >> reporter: yeah, a new clinical trial may hold the key to stopping rapid mental decline in alzheimer's patients. researchers are finding promising results in deep brain stimulation. four years ago robert linton had two electroids imanded in the -- implanted in the memory air afterhis brain and a battery in his chest sends 100 electrical impulses a second to the brain. the treatment allows him to lead a normal life putting a brake on the alzheimer's if i

can't remember something, if i just pause for one, two or three seconds, it pops in. >> reporter: right now the study is conducted on patient ms canada. doctors hope to get -- patients in canada. doctors hope to get more answers. 6:33. very worrisome is what researchers are calling a findings of a study that looks at long-term effects of methamphetamine on children whose mothers used it during pregnancy. the study is made public today and shows those kids are at higher risk for behavior problems like anxiety and depression. and an expert and the national institute of drug abuse calls the study ground breaking but says more research needs to be done. today is the start of national youth violence prevention week. several organizations have put together more than 70 activities for kids to do all around baltimore. like basketball, game nights andrap sessions. goal is to help make kids make school and communities safer.

mayor stephanie rawlings blake is announcing today the winning proposal to add a third safe viets baltimore site. and around the nation, firefighters are making progress on a large wind fueled grass fire in northeastern colorado. the fire is about 50% contained. the blaze which started sunday south of yuma quickly spread forcing people of a rural town to evacuate. at least two homes destroyed and three firefighters have been hurt battling the flames. time is 6:34. a lesson in poetry is turning into a classroom controversy in virginia. a high school teacher is now under investigation for comments she made to the only african american student in the class. jordan says it was the way his freshman english teacher told him to read a poem by lanes to -- langston. hughes. >> --

because of the fog. let's start with meteorologist lynette charles. fog is causing a few headaches. >> you are right. it will stake around through -- it will stick around through the late morning and early afternoon. we have the south eastern flow that's onshore flow and with that, temperatures are feeling a little cool they are morning. 45 degrees in chestertown. shadyside 48 and more of the same in edgewater. but the humidity 100%. that means the air is saturated and that dew point and that temperature the exact same. and with that we are feeling it this morning in terms of well we have that humidity out there and also the fog. satellite and radar picking up on the showers back off toward the west. some of that could get in as we go into the afternoon. let's check out the traffic report now with angela. good morning foggy conditions out there. >> reporter: good morning. and you said it correctly. foggy conditions is what we are dealing with out there. also got a couple incidents an accident on the inner loop as you pass frederick road. so not causing a major delay

of anti-semitism. french president sarkozy is on his way to the school. overnight tornadoes hit nebraska damaging homes. severe weather is expected to move east. linda so is standing by with the very latest. linda. >> reporter: overnight while youwere heaping, two tornadoes hit central in brass cay damaging homes and derailed 15 train cars. we are hearing at least one person who got trapped in a home was injured and rescued. earlier in the ssible tornadoes moved through oklahoma. storm chasers caught dramatic video of debris being thrown around. a flash flood watch is in effect for 13 counties in oklahoma. a low moving storm system could dump 4 to 8 inches of rain there. the severe weather is moving east and could affect iowa and texas later today. we want to show you something we have on the website at abc2news.com. if you go to the main page right under the weather tab, we have something called tornado

they are showing documentary, the last text to a group of student at mount st. joseph's high school. the film shows people whose lives impacted by texting and driving. a report due out today shows good news when it comes to students graduating high school. it says modest gains were made from 2001 to 2009 with 75% of students receiving a diploma. the most significant gains were in 12 states led by new york and tennessee. ten states saw decline and the report is being presented today at the grad nation summit in washington, d.c. time is 6:50. starting this may, baltimore gas and electric is going to start installing smart meters. the company is going to send letters to the customers today to inform them about the changes. and a log electric meters will be replaced with digital once and gas meters will be upgraded by the end of 2014. it is part of a major effort to modernize central maryland's

seasons everywhere. let's go back inside here and i can show you how we have the -- snow in arizona. winter back into portions of the four corners and back west further than that. and then we slide a little further towards the east. we are dealing with summer like conditions here and severe weather as we head into oklahoma, texas, and even into kansas today. this will start to slide off toward the east. but i am not done with the seasons yet. let's head further off toward the east where we are dealing with spring like conditions and that's closer to home as we zoom in, we can see showers and thunderstorms guiding -- diving into west virginia and also into portions of western maryland at this time. but, across the area right now, we are dealing with a few clouds moving in. and with that, we do have some foggy conditions out there this morning. so the visibility is reduced and we have about four mile visibility right now in baltimore. 7 in easton, 3 in york pennsylvania and five in frederick. the future trend picking up on

maybe some activities, shower activity, thunderstorm activity and isolated and scattered in nature going into the afternoon time frame and then things will be drier going into tuesday. but we will get sunshine in here for today. so don't let me fool you. if we get more sunshine in, the temperatures will bump up a bit. but if the clouds really whoever, and linger, then temperatures will be right around 68 degrees. but here's forecast for the nextseven days, as spring mobs into the picture for tomorrow -- moves into the picture for tomorrow. thursday, 78, and 77 on friday and drier. let's check the traffic with angela. how are the roads? foggy again? >> reporter: the fog is the story. we are seeing very slow traffic now southbound 795 as you come through owings mills. also eastbound i-70 through marriottsville very slow traffic through the west friendship area. traveling around the beltway, off and off pockets of very slow traffic. here's a live look on the north side just west of york road where the delay opens up from the north side and continues around through the pikeville
