the drive on the beltway. we have new information this morning in a developing story about a 17-year-old african american male shot and killed near his home in florida. the man confessed to the shooting and has not been arrested. this morning, we are learning new information in this case. sherrie johnson is here with the latest. >> meagan, we have learned within the last couple of hours, prosecutors and the fbi opened an investigation in to the killing of 17 year-old trayvon martin. the justice department will dispatch officials to investigate and address tension in the community. he was shot and killed by a neighborhood watch volunteer while walking back to his father's fiance's house. the teen's parents believe race was a factor in their son's death. family members say the local police have shown disregard for justice, protesters gathered monday at the courthouse in seminole to demand justice.

this weekend, 911 calls were released. you can hear someone yelling for help. a voice analysis will be conducted to see who is yelling for hope. the operator told zimmerman not to follow him. neighbors called 911. when police arrived, he was dead. he was carrying a bag of skittles and an ice tea bottle that he bought from a convenient store. >> there is a whole in my heart for my son. he was a baby. he was my baby. i don't understand why somebody can take his life? >> zimmerman has not been charged. he told police he shot the teen in self defense. now police have no evidence to refute his story. sherrie johnson, abc2 news. we have new information this morning about robert baits, he is the soldier
