first catholic cathedral. built in 1806 and after the war in 1821, it took a historic earthquake to make it crack. >> it probably absorbed it. that's why the plaster cracked but the structure held the building steady. >> reporter: so when people started stepping on cracks -- >> disappointment. >> reporter: these are long meandering cracks in the dome. fractures to even chunks of plaster hanging from an archway. it reveals an ugly reality so soon after a masterfully beautiful renovation. >> we were up in the dome of the basilica. from the ground floorks the cracks look like cracks but when you get up close, it may lab lot deeper. the church doesn't know that

the bill from $30 to $60 a bill. they will work out differences in the budget bill. the state senate has moved the date of baltimore city elections starting in 2016 to the same date as the presidential election. currently city elections are held at odd careers when there's no gubernatorial or presidential race. those in favor said it would help boost turnout. and the senate budget and taxation committee is expected to vote on whether or not to expand gambling in the state of maryland. the measure would allow table games like blackjacks. right now they're only allowed to have slot machines. today drivers were surprised when they saw money flying out of an armored truck. state police say he took cash

and coins. one driver said others stopped to get fist fulls of cash. anne arundel county police arrested a man who shot his girlfriend. kenneth william mitchell the second was arrested after he shot his girlfriend following an argument. it took place on alabama avenue. the victim was flown to the hospital where she remains in serious condition. mitchell was charged with -- first degree attempted murder. police arrested a man for growing pot in his house. 26-year-old michael cunning ham was arrested. police found growing equipment. st. joe's has been looking for a buyer after a series of

lawsuits. the hospital said it includes the intent of transferring ownership. the university of maryland has remained committed. others had put in offers. it would need to be approved by a number of other entities. the neighborhood of towson is now on the national register of historic places. it was filed earlier this month. it qualifies homeowners for tax credits. now on to consumer alert. bank of america is trying out a new program that is allowing those facing foreclosure to rent. preselected couples meres can turn over their deed to the bank. they won't own their home and won't owe on the mortgage. they would rent instead.

the pilot program will be tested in arizona, nevada and new york. according to the bureau of labor statistics there are only 1.3 million green jobs in the u.s., less than half of 2 1/2% of the nation's employment. the obama administration has been pushing green jobs as a way to stimulate the economy. another grocery store chain said they will stop selling ground beef that contains the filler known as i'm slie. the stores are transitioning without the additive. the rochester-based company said they're not replofg current supplies but the new ground beef will be sold as soon as its available. pink slime meets safety standards but many grocers have dropped it. time is running out if you want to win the $290 million

joseph's church in fullerton. a harford county elementary school is celebrating a very rare feat being named a blue ribbon school. the honor recognizes and honor schools in reading and mathematics. they're profisht in both. officials were on hand to celebrate the achievement today. >> what we are celebrating this morning, we are celebrating quality of education in harford county public schools. we're celebrating the entire harford county community but we are especially celebrating the results of the work of everybody in this room. great to see smart kids. the elementary school is one of six schools in the state to be honored as blue ribbon school this year.
