territory here. this morning, at 9:00 a.m., testimony begins in the sexual abuse scandal involving philadelphia archdiocese. this will be the first time a church official could stand trial for covering up for priests accused of sexually assaulting children. the accusations go up to the highest authority in the philadelphia archdiocese. william lynn was in charge of investigating priest acoosed of child abuse for the archdiocese. he is the first official criminally charged with knowing about abuse, but conspiring to cover it up. it's a case that's had twists and turns including allegations recently ordered documents shredded. one of the codefendants defrocked the priest and pleaded guilty admitting to raping a 10-year-old alter boy in 1999. >> the catholic church, to my knowledge, has the most

expensive comprehensive program dealing with people going to work there in the catholic church or working as well as volunteers. >> this is about held account for doing despicable acts. >> the key to the case could be the credibility of the alleged victims who will testify. assessment received and released by nbc news could mean changes in the case against former penn state coach, jerry sandusky. it was conducted in 1998, alleges that a psychologist told penn state police that jerry sandusky acted quote like a pedophile. this suggests that the university was warped about the -- warned about the coach. sandusky is under house arrest, as he waits for his trial on more than 50 counts of child sex abuse. he pled not guilty. the governor of mississippi is expressing sorrow about the deaths of two college students

in his state. 21-year-old wisconsin man was shot to death by a mississippi state university in the dorm on saturday, three suspects fled the building. on sunday, a freshman died from being shot in the face. there is no suspects in the case. the governor says he is saddened about what he learned about the loss of the students. students. this is grabbing serious attention. a policy within the union gives $500 to police officers who have shot someone. some people say this is a reward and officials say it's meant to help officers involved in a traumatic event like shooting someone. the money is not a reward they say but the chief wants them to come up with a better way to help officers. we have learned that a woman pin in to a wall by a car

last december, she has died from injuries in that accident. police say that lori smith died on saturday, the crash happened on december 23rd on baltimore national pike. police found the drive that hi smith, was at fault at the time of the crash. the investigation is still on going. jury selection could start as early as today in the retrial of twin brothers, traverse and tremay johnson, they are accused of setting a pit bull named phoenix on fire three years ago. the dog was euthanized. the lawyers for the twins want certain evidence excluded from the animal cruelty trial, the judge will have that ruling today. he has been performing his comedy for 32 years now. gallagher is hanging up his slenl hammer and all of -- sledge hammer and all of his other plots. plus, it was a center piece

he was the head of a neighborhood watch group. many people across the country gathering in support of the dead teen. baltimore having the rally scheduled for today, expecting hundreds out today at the intersection of pratt and light streets. they will talk about the changes needed to take place towards more equal rights for all in the city of baltimore. many people we spoke to, getting ready for the event scheduled for today. say tissue of what happened in florida involving trayvon martin, was motivated by race. listen. >> if he was young and he was wealthy and white, he wouldn't have been looked at as being suspicious, people can wear the wrong clothes. young people in general targeted nowadays. people are suspicious of young people. >> reporter: one of the things too, we have to keep in mind all facts of the case have not

been made public. president barack obama called for a thorough investigation in to the matter. the department of justice, they launched a civil rights probe in to the shooting and the grand jury that will examine all of the evidence involving the case, is scheduled to meet april 10th. live with the rally at 5:00 and a individual ill vigil at city hall at 10:00. >> today senator ben carden will join leaders of the civil rights community at a rally to end racial profiling. it start at 1:00 in front of the center for urban families in baltimore. members of the black caucus of maryland will hold a press conference, calling for justice. caucus members will stand in solidarity with black caucuses from around the nation in demands for answers in the on going investigation of the 17 year old. that rally starts at 1:30.

civil rights activists and leaders are calling for calm around the nation. the parents of trayvon martin prepare to speak at a community meeting. they had a vigil last night in churches around the nation. worshipers honored the 17 year old by wearing hoodies to the services. george zimmerman , the watch volunteer who shot martin is claiming self defense. many aren't buying it. >> (inaudible.) trayvon martin's family will speak during a town hall meeting. rick scott says he has formed a task force to review law in the wake of this shooting. zimmerman has not been charged with the crime. today president obama, his health care law will be tested in the supreme court. it has been called the most

critical legal decision in a lifetime. the argument is whether mandating ever american by health insurance is constitutional. sherrie johnson is here to tell us what happens today. >> today the u.s. supreme court takes up a historic test of whether the health care law is valid under the contusion. this comes two years after president barack obama signed in to law a health care overhaul. it's been a big issue in his presidency. some 26 states filed lawsuits challenging the law under the current law, it requires you to buy health insurance by 2014 or pay a penalty. critics say it's too much government control and overbearing and damaging to the economy. taxes and regulations will hurt small business owners and the law will not reduce skyrocketing medical costs. the state of florida is leading the fight against the government. >> these issues are central to whether the federal government can regulate anything it wants to. >> no one is saying there is a

right to free load off of one's neighbor. >> the stakes are high with the supreme court taking this case months before an election. analysts feel the justices will be able to put the overtones aside to tackle the case. back to you. today police chief james tier will answer questions about the alleged actions of arundel county executive leopold. prosecutors say in some cases making them act as lookouts while he had sex in county parking lots. the indictment says officers told him about leopold's action and he didn't do anything. tier has not been charged. the department of public works is warning you if you live along argon drive to harford road this is going to be blasts you will hear today. controlled explosives are used to breakthrough bedrock, part of the next phase in the sewer replacement work along the herring run. residents will hear a siren
