kent county. >> reporter: the usual sounds of school bells was interrupted. that comost caused by two handwritten notes. >> it was a threat to all of the kent county public schools. at that point we evacuated the building and coordinated a dismissal with hour central office to make -- our central office to make sure all were safe. >> reporter: the bomb threat was to all seven schools in the county. that initiated reaction from the agencies as far away as ocean city and prince george's county. the state police even flew in a bomb dog from cumberland to assist. nine dogs were used. the schools were cleared by 1: 45 this afternoon. >> we were don't consider this a prank. this is a very serious thing. it's impacted a lot of students, a lot of teachers a lot of

suffering deep financial problems. we learned that his mother and brother had died in the last year. oar loor police believe the -- >> reporter: police believe the suspect was up set after being teased about his english. >> we learned this was a very chaotic and determined gentleman who came there with a specific intent to kill people. >> reporter: the suspect isidentified as 43-year-old one goh and was dispelled because of behavioral problems. he showed new a nursing class and started firing. he walked through the building randomly shooting at victims. police believe the gunman was specifically targeting one of the school's administrators but she wasn't here at the time.

they used a .45 caliber handgun during the attack. >> i looked outside the door of the classroom and somebody said he had a gun. >> reporter: some heard as many as 33 shots. s.w.a.t. teams searched for the gunman has students ran out of the building. emergency workers carried the bodies of the wounded and dead. one victim was shot in the head. in all, seven are confirmed dead and three more are wounded. >> we were so scared. >> reporter: later he walked up into a grocery store and said "i shot somebody." >> he was deep in debt with

was at the polls. she greeted voters and encouraged them to vote for her congressional campaign. now on the democratic side of the primary, several of the candidates will hold a joint party in baltimore. congressman elijah cummings and ben cardin will be there tonight. before that they will be working the polls. we have more coverage. >> reporter: a lot of the drama is on the republican side, people talking about mitt romney versus santorum. here in baltimore city it is a heavily democratic city. you don't have that volume of republicans. as you might expect, turnout is low. i just got off the phone with the baltimore city elections.

as of now turnout 5.2%. senator ben cardin is up for reelection. he's trying to get the voters to come out at cross-country elementary school. here there's two precincts. they're higher than the city average. 8% at one precinct and 6% at another. senator cardin saying it's important to come to the poll. >> elections are already excited. it gives me a chance to present what i've done over the past five years. so we've been all over maryland. we're feeling good about this election, kept it very positive and encourage people to come out and vote. that's what the democracy is all about. >> reporter: he's facing a challenge from state senator anthony muse, a pastor from
