contaminates that may interact with the meteorites. >> they're afraid of alien bacteria coming to infect us and take over our planet. they house about 15,000 different meteorites here and all the goofy looking things that kinds of look like inside out gloves are pressurized with nitrogen. >> the reason they're in dry nitrogen, so they don't get exposed to moisture and in these cabinets so they aren't contaminateed by anything. >> if this is behind the scenes, what exactly is in front of the scenes? >> good question. go to the smithsonian you may see some of these things on display or some of the information that they learn from this, that's in front of the scene. >> keeping things like this and the meteorites we have in this kind of storage actually preserves them for the instrumentation getting better and better, 30, 50, 100 years from now we can make more detailed measurements than we can now. >> don't you they would be cool to handle something that's not of this world? that came from space? >> what we're trying to do with the research of meteorites,
