that's what's making news in america this morning. i saw the flames, the fire, big plumes coming up, the black smoke. >> it's fueling brush fires, what we're in for the next few hours. and a celebration at the stroke of midnight in annapolis. instead it was more bickering. what lawmakers failed to do. >> we're standing by for a press conference from the american lottery. but first a weather alert. windy dry conditions are fueling brush fires in maryland and across parts of the east coast. >> crews setting so-called

backfires, trying to protect the homes in that area. no word yet on a cause. we're going to find out what we're in for today. let's send it over toly net, but first the scene in new jersey similar to the scene in anne arundel county. >> let's check in now with a live report from linda talking about what's going on in aen arundel county. they tell us no new fires overnight. but crews had their work cut out for them yesterday at the beach. a brush fire got dangerously close to homes in the 8400 block of echo drive. it started on the marsh near the water. some teens were lighting bonfires over the weekend. it took about 50 firefighters to get it under control, flames shooting up 30 feet in the air. >> it's black, you see it just spread. i mean, the wind luckily changed right away and started going that way away from our houses.

>> and because it's so dry out, fire officials say to avoid any kind of outdoor burning. you can find all the latest information on our we. all right. you're exactly right. we definitely do not want to be burning anything outdoors today. we do have a red flag warning in effect once again as we go into lunchtime. dry and windy conditions continuing as we go into the afternoon and let's talk about the red flag warning. it's from lunchtime until 8:00 p.m. and once again it is overspread the entire state of maryland and points north ward and south ward and even off towards the east. so again, it's going to be a very dry day on tap. relative humidity right now, we covered a little bit overnight but we will have that northwesterly flow once again so it will start to dry things out as we go. it will drop humidity levels down to near 30%, so another dry

day. so we'll have a repeat of what we had yesterday. we'll talk temperatures and our next chance for some rain showers in the forecast. right now let's get a check of the traffic with angela. >> good morning. we're starting off great this morning. tuesday look pretty good. we're still in overnight traffic pat herb in a lot of areas and if you're traveling on the east side of 695 right now, 702 westbound, the ramp to tinner loop is closed. the good news is that is a temporary closure, should be up and running hopefully shortly after 5:00 a.m. the tunnels are in great shape. traveling south of o'donnell street you're good to go there and of course traveling around the beltway, no reports so far there. lawmakers in annapolis failed to pass a budget but they did pass severe cuts to public and higher education. a last second attempt to extend the 2012 legislative session passed in the house but failed

in the senate. lawmakers could convene in a special se. all right. well, this morning the maryland lottery commission right now working on a big aannouncement. >> apparently someone has come forward claiming a prize in the mega millions lottery prize could be ending a lot of the speculation saying they're the winner. >> in a few hours the lottery will hold a news conference to provide details about the winning ticket. a person has come forward to claim a part of the winning prize. the tick t was sold in the mill ford area. one in kansas and one in illinois. last week the kansas winner came forward but remained anonymous. maryland's winner can also stay anonymous if they choose to. it will split the $656 million prize with the other winners. the news conference starts at

8:00 today. it will be held at 1800 washington boulevard in baltimore. and finally put an end to all of the suspension. back to you. we hope to learn new information about this morning about what led up to an accidental shooting death of a 6-year-old maryland child. police say he accidently shot himself with a gun in pg county yesterday. they discovered the gun in a backpack at his great grandmother's house. >> i just heard her screaming and a couple of ambulances came. i never seen so many mrif police cars in all my life. >> it's sad for anybody, but a 6-year-old, his life just begun for him. >> police say that backpack belongs to a 20-year-old who is now in police custody. that man lived in the home but is not related to the family. a slew of charges after federal charges say he made explicit videos of children including a teen here in maryland. fink biener was arrested last

friday. of federal authorities found videos on his computer. he coerced at least 100 people in the videos. they found explicit photos of boys online and then contacted him and threatened to post them for friends and family if they didn't send him more videos of themselves. in her address tonight which happens at 7:30, secretary republicanton will focus on u.s. strategy in asia pacific, that certain region. we're following a developing story this morning in oklahoma where it appears tornados may have hit. >> a number of people may have injured and the size of hail that may have . and now some are partying

this time now 4:38. at hes two tornados have touched down in parts of oklahoma with softball size hail pounding that part of the state. >> and the tornado brought hail ranging in size from an inch to 4 inches. it shattered vehicle windows and tore roof tops apart. >> you can always be soon to following these storms. click on the weather tab and click on tornado alley. you can watch storm chasers out on the roads live. you can also see photos and posts of what they're experiencing out there. we are in the middle of tornado season so these kinds of stories are probably becoming the norm in the weeks to come. >> it's incredible, the dark clouds and you hear about hail that large. we'll see more of that this

springtime, this summer as well, especially due to the craziness that we've had during the wintertime. so as we look at the satellite and radar, we're still seeing thunderstorms popping up over texas. some of these could become severe as we go through the day, but also dealing with some wintertime as we head up across the midwest. snow showers across that area, but close to home not dealing with anything. we're actually dry. we're hoping for a lit bit of rain as we go throughout the day. but i don't think we'll get any type of rain across the area, so we're watching those winds to pick up as we go into the afternoon. right now they're about 5 miles per hour in baltimore. we also had that moisture content, it's very dry out there. dew points are in the 30s and dry times ahead, but right now let's go over to ang la. she has a check of your traffic. >> good morning. on the roads right now just seeing soming overnight work zones in the usual places. also a couple of spots we're not used to seeing the work zones.

things you need to know, today the fbi will announce a new addition to the fbi's ten most wanted list. there have been two vacancies to that list. president obama travels to florida today and will deliver remarks on the economy and attend three campaign fund raisers. florida is considered a must win for the white house. freeze warning across parts of the midwest this morning. this means anxious waiting for farmers. and a law will be signed into law today that will allow teachers to point out flaws in scientific theories like evolution and global warming.

and they oar asking companies and individuals to go barefoot at work, also at school raising awareness for kids that don't have shoes. today is an international day of protests over the death of florida teen trayvon martin. there will be a march gathering at 5:00 p.m. at the site of the proposed youth jail east on madison street in baltimore. and the group is marching after it was decided yesterday that a grand jury will not investigate the death of martin. a special prosecutor will decide whether or not to charge the admitted shooter george zimmerman. in tulsa, oklahoma, court documents say the two arrested in the shooting rampage that terrorized the city have both confessed. alvine ross confessed to shooting two people. the shootings left three people dead and two seriously wounded. we're now hearing the 911 calls from the day a navy jet crashed into an apartment complex. listen as a caller describes one of the pilots, what they did after the accident. t >> is he conscious >> yes, he . >> so he's no longer on your patio right now? >> he's still on my patio but they told me to evacuate and the other guys are helping him. my neighbors are there helping

him. >> the crash happened friday in virginia beach after the navy said that the jet malfunctioned. 7 people including two pie loots were hurt when the plane crashed and burst into flames. no one was killed. authorities are reviewing the black box from the navy fighter jet. police say a mother taking her toddler to a home daycare in minnesota discovered three adults shot dead inside. police inno carrierringconnect 0

. this is coming a kind of a continuing trend now with those high winds and brush fires. people really need to be careful out there. >> they do. no type of open burning whatsoever. we have another red flag warning in effect for today that goes in effect at lunchtime until 8:00 p.m. so we're going to do it all over again. you can see for the areas here shaded in the red and that's basically everywhere, the entire

state of maryland for the most part, also pennsylvania, delaware, also new jersey and even points south into virginia. you can see a little bit of blue back on the maps. that's in a freeze warning for portions of western maryland and also west virginia and even to virginia so we have it all over the board here. the red flag warning, the reason why we have it is those winds will be picking up as we go through the day. winds are sustained about 5 to 10 miles per hour. 7 in d.c. also york, pennsylvania, this morning. we're also going to add that dry air to it so we do have the relative humidity. right now it's not on the dry side. after recovered a little bit overnight. a couple of showers that moursenned up the atmosphere a bit. we do have that dry northwesterly flow that's going to begin to dry the atmosphere out once again so it will dip down to about 30% as we go into the afternoon and that's why that red flag warning will kick in by learning time.

temperature coming in right around 44 degrees in baltimore right now. we should be at 41 degrees now for this time of the year, so just a little bit above average, but we can see some of those blues back there. so it is a little bit cooler there. kind of chilly. satellite and radar not picking up anything right now. we have ear under mainly clear skies but we will start to see those clouds on the increase as we go throughout the day. lots of sunshine but we will be partly sunny as we go through the afternoon time frame. future trend is not making me happy because we're not seeing any type of greens coming in on the map. we do need some rain across the area. we are right around 4 inches below for the entire year and with that, that's why we're really drying things out. we didn't have the snow that we should have had over the wintertime so we are dry. hour by hour we will be windy. we will be seeing temperature coming in around 60 degrees and that is just a degree below now where we should be for this time

of the year. >> i know you were busy yesterday. how's it looking today? >> so far so good but we did get a report of an incident on the beltway. we're trying to get confirmation whether it's the inner loop or the outer loop. in the meantime the other stretches of 695 moving well this morning. we're on the south side right now. 695 in the bw parkway where it's moving without delay. if you're traveling east and if you're traveling west moving well all the way around to i-70. also no reported incidents or delays on the north side of the beltway. new this morning we're expected to learn more about what's being done fighting cyber crimes. chairman mike rogers will hold a press conference later this morning. their bill passed last december. once again, this and the ongoing fight against sign r security. organizers of the cherry blossom parade will join the

and welcome back on this tuesday morning. a health alert for you. if your child is on spring break or about to go on spring break be watching for lice. spring break is a major time for head lice. the major reason is kids are wearing helmets and biking and doing other things. it's also the time for slumber parties or just general get togethers. there are some ways you can help prevent kids from getting lice. the long hair -- tie back long hair, don't share hair brushes and also be checking for lice at least once a week. gross. all right.

getting out until friday at the earliest. workers have been removing tons of the earth and rock to reach those miners, but their equipment isn't sufficient. officials now reaching out to mining firms to lend heavy equipment to speed up that process. the miners have been trapped since sunday. and french authorities say the gunman behind the killing spree became ere rat cal behind bars. he claimed al qaeda links and was connected to the shooting deaths of 7 people last month. police are still investigating to see if he in fact acted alone. time now to start the 5:00 hour. dry conditions are fueling brush fires. the latest on what turned out to be a dangerous situation in aen arundel county. the legislative session ended last night with no celebrations and still a lot of work to be done. >>
