blue. freeze warnings are in effect in pennsylvania this morning, adams county, york, pennsylvania also under that. and as we go throughout the day, things will start to warm up nicely and you're going to love the weekend if you like the warmer temperatures. right now, though, you're stepping out the door, grab the jacket before you go. temperature in mount airy 36 degrees. 40 in fredrick and 42 degrees right now in alpton. let's get a check of the traffic now with angela. good morning. you have a lot to talk about. reporter: good morning, lynette. we have a whole lot to talk about. that's why we're live this morning at i-83, the jones falls expressway. as you know by now, a semi permit work zone will be set up on the jfx starting at 7:00 tonight. we'll be blocking one lane, as a matter of fact, it will be the left lane in each direction between 29th street and druid park lake drive. now, of course, this is going to cost some -- cause some major delays during the rush hour, for the morning rush as well as the evening rush. and we also want to make you aware that if you travel the jfx in the evening, they're anticipating some additional

lane closures will be implemented in the evening and late night hours for this work to complete which will take approximately six to eight weeks. now, we have on our website, abc2news.com, if you click the traffic tab, you will see some of the alternate routes that we are suggesting. now, alternate routes will not be necessary this morning because we are friday light out there. a live look at the beltway, we'll show you that even though the top side is usually very busy this time of day, we're in very good shape as you make your way over to the harrisburg expressway. where we're not in good shape is on ii95 traveling through elkridge right now. a live look at maryland 100. especially heavy towards the capitol beltway. you are on the brakes there as well as in the northbound direction. so be prepared for those delays. now back to you in the studio. the latest battle in the race for the white house is now over politics and women. this has happened once before. >> absolutely. this coming, though, from comments made by a democratic strategist after mitt romney's wife came into the spotlight.

abc 2 news' linda stow is here with the latest on this fallout. linda, what is this all about? reporter: well, hillary rosen has since apologized for the comment. it all started when she questioned whether ann romney was qualified to talk about economic issues while campaigning for her husband. the comment sparked a lot of criticism from both sides of the aisle. obama senior adviser and the dnc chairman both tweeted their disappointment over the comments. first lady michelle obama also tweeted every mother works hard and every mother deserves to be respected. in a statement rosen apologized to ann romney, but also blamed the republicans for their role in trying to exploit her comments. >> what i meant was had nothing to do with an attack on stay-at- home moms. what i meant was that mitt romney is using his wife as an economic surrogate. he himself said it and i thought that was off face, he needed more. reporter: recent polls show romney trailing the president in support among women voters. linda stow, abc 2 news.

a home to serve a search warrant. they say that the alleged drug dealer and his girlfriend barricaded themselves inside the home. their identities have not been released. newark mayor cory booker is recovering this morning after trying to rescue a neighbor from a burning home. he could hear someone in the back screaming for help and he went into that house, grabbed the woman and got out. he had to be rushed to the hospital for smoke inhalation, but tweeted overnight that he was doing okay. 6:37 right now. if you're looking for an easy way to make some cash to pay for gas, well, there is a way to do it. we'll tell but it. >> all you have to do is make your car a moving billboard. details on how to do that coming up. here's a reason to cheer over your happy hour tonight, especially if you have a beer. the frosty beverage could make you smarter. we'll explain just ahead.

day, megan. the frost advisories in a lot of spots already canceled. we still do have it, though, for the areas shaded in the blue. we are still looking at cecil county. this is in effect until 9:00. we're looking at the purples, adams county, york county, you're in effect until 9:00 for a freeze warning, so still a little bit of frost out there, but temperatures are beginning to warm up. 40 degrees in aberdeen and glen burnie, 44 degrees right now, glenn oak coming in at 41 degrees. winds are on the light side this morning and they'll stay that way even as we go into the afternoon. we still do have some dry air out there and that will continue. i'm going to talk about the next chance for some much needed rain in the forecast. but right now let's get a check of that traffic with angela. good morning. reporter: good morning, lynette. live again in front of the jfx, i-83, trying to prepare you for those lane closures coming up. significant delays expected. starting tonight at 7:00 until at least six to eight weeks. we'll have emergency repairs going on on 83 between 29th street and druid park lake

drive. so expect major delays. again, we're asking all motorists to please alter your travel plans and be prepared for those delays. now, if you're heading out the door right now, you should not run into any delays right now as we get a live look at 695. this is just before you reach the beltway on the southwest side and traffic flow is very nice in this region. now, for those of you heading to the top side of the beltway on 795, the northwest expressway, it's actually a very good drive there as well. a live look at 795 and cockies mill road. we'll show you the pace does increase as you pass owens mills boulevard and make your way to 695. now back to you in the studio. george zimmerman is spending his third day in jail today. he made his first court appearance, that was yesterday. and abc 2 news' linda stow is standing by here in the studio with the latest on what his attorneys plan 0 do next. linda. reporter: we've learned zimmerman's attorneys are working on getting a bail hearing in the next couple of weeks. the 28-year-old made his first court appearance on thursday for the shooting death of trayvon martin.

he pled not guilty to second- degree murder charges. zimmerman turned himself in to police on wednesday after the special prosecutor announced charges against him. a law enforcement official says zimmerman cried for hours his first night in jail, he was isolated in protective custody and under constant watch. in documents released thursday, prosecutors say zimmerman confronted trayvon martin and pursued him, although his life was never threatened. martin's mother says she's still haunted by the moment she found out her son was dead. >> i didn't believe it then, i still have issues believing it now. i still feel that this is just a nightmare and that i'm going to open up my eyes one day and trayvon is going to come through the door and he's going to give me a hug and a kiss. >> zimmerman's arraignment has been set for may 29th. if convicted of second-degree murder charges, he faces life in prison. linda stow, abc 2 news. zimmerman's arrest followed weeks of protests in cities across the country,

including here in baltimore. comedian bill cosby now weighing in on the controversy. listen. >> how are you going to solve a race issue when it becomes he said she said or he said he said? and the other question is what is is solved by saying he's a racist, that's why he shot the boy? what solves that? >> you can watch candy crowley's full interview with bill cosby on state of the union" sunday at noon eastern. sentencing date has been set for george huguely, a man convicted of killing his ex- girlfriend at the university of virginia. huguely will be sentenced on monday for the murder of cockiesville native yeardley love. jurors found him guilty in february of killing love who was a la crosse player at uva as well. legal experts believe huguely will be sentenced to about 26 years behind bars. governor martin o'malley is

speaking today about academic institutions in maryland that have promising technologies. he'll be meeting with university leaders and entrepreneurs at the technology center in baltimore. governor o'malley is scheduled to take part in a ribbon cutting for a new company. students in fredrick county schools, they are now getting an extra day off next month because world leaders are going to be visiting their area. the g8 summit is being held at camp david on may 18th as well as may 19th. the county sheriff has asked schools to be closed on friday and that's for safety concerns. fredrick county public schools has also asked for a special exemption so they don't have to make that day up in june. many of you have already filed your taxes, some are waiting for last minute while others will need extensions. we've got tips this morning on everything you need to know because tax day is just days away. abc 2 news' sherree johnson is live in rogers ford with more. reporter: charley, april 17th is not far away. time to pay those taxes. a lot of folks have questions, what they need to be doing.

right now we have dwayne henderson from h and r block. you've been here all morning long, answering lots of questions for us. good morning, dwayne, thanks for being here. good morning. reporter: a lot say where's my refund. >> go to irs.gov. a couple of things you're going to need, your social security number and the amount of refund, type those things in, it should give you an idea of where the refund is. the refund should take 10 to 21 days if you electronically file. reporter: sometimes people -- you know, it's a good idea to get a second look at your tax returns even if you've already received your money back. >> absolutely. you can bring your tax return into any h and r block office. we'll take a free second look. a lot of times there's money left on the table, we'll look for the deductions for you, whether it be deductions or credits. the average refund last year should be $2900. if you didn't receive that, you should take a second look. we can amend the return up to three years to get you more money. reporter: what are some of the big things that people

sometimes miss. >> the education credit is key, perhaps the wrong filing status, some of the deductions they missed, if you have a small business are you taking the expenses properly. come into and h and r block office, we'll be happy to review it for you for free. reporter: thanks for being here answering a lot of our questions. hopefully some of these answers will help you out on tax day. reporting live in rogers ford, sherree johnson, abc 2 news. a pretrial hearing is scheduled today for a man who used a fake rockefeller name to hide from the law. clark rockefeller is accused of murdering a california man back in 1985. rockefeller was staying at the time at the victim's guest house. and a pretrial hearing is also scheduled today for former baseball star roger clemens. he is going to be going to a retrial which begins on monday. clemens is charged with perjury for allegedly lying to congress about steroid use. and the screening process for jurors is going to resume monday for the trial of former presidential candidate john edwards. he's facing multiple charges

for allegedly using campaign donations to hide his pregnant misduring his 2008 presidential run. it is off to florida today for president barack obama. he's visiting the port of tampa to talk about the benefits of trading with latin america. obama will then head to colombia for a summit of the americas. it's getting more and more expensive to go to prom these days. the average cost now up to $1,100, up from more than $2 it 70 in a year. a lot of that is for the dress or the tux. let's talk about what's going on around the nation here because we're looking at the rain across the middle of the nation and we so desperately need that. we could see the showers and storms moving in across the plains now, also some thunderstorms around iowa and even into minnesota this morning. we're also looking back off towards the west where they have been seeing, california, san francisco, rounlds of showers and thunderstorms for several days now. they've been adding up on the rainfall totals. speaking of that, take a live picture out live into san

francisco right now and we are definitely looking at some rain and some lightning, some thunderstorms really coming in around the area there. but we are looking at the fact that, well, closer to home here we are on the dry side and that will be the scenario as we go through time. we do see some clouds coming in across the area, but those will start to fizzle out as we go more into the afternoon time frame. so we are definitely going to be seeing plenty of sunshine. so speaking of that, let's step outdoors in towson and we can see that we did have the clouds around, but those are slowly but surely starting to push out. we will be getting more sunshine in here as we go through the remainder of today. we also have the fact that temperatures are on the cool side right now. cold in talson, good morning to you, right around 32 degrees. so that shot outside, you might just want to look at it from outside as of now. high pressure building in across the area for the remainder of today and future trend going to be picking up on more of the same. no wet weather in the forecast as of yet. temperature today right around 67 degrees and here's a check of that seven-day forecast for you as we will begin to warm things up as we head into
