we are moving well for the most part even on york road and on i- 895. south of o'donnell street two- way traffic pattern at the tunnels and as well on i-95 at the fort mchenry tunnel. this morning, there could be a bit of a commuting hassle driving along the jones falls, pressway. sherrie johnson joins us live with the latest on lane closures and construction there. sherrie. >> reporter: good morning. yes, we are here on the jfx at the north avenue exit. look behind me here. you know, traffic is not that bad right now, but, hey, it's still early. today is the first true test for the jones fall expressway closures. left land at 28th street in both -- left lanes at 28th street in both directions were shut down for repairs. we talked to some drivers and they think it's going to be a big headache. lane closures are needed tore repairs for collapsed drainage pipes.

george hugeley will be sentence. -- huguely will be sentenced. huguely was convict of killing his ex-girlfriend yeardley love and she was a fellow uva lacrosse player. we will bring outdetails from the courtroom as soon as we know them. to another campus where five years ago today the virginia tech mass cure took place. the state of -- massacre took place. there be a a moment of -- there will be a moment of silence today on the campus. it forced universities to beef up their alert system. a former student will be on capitol hill today. he along with other survivors of the virginia tech massacre will hold a meeting to keep guns out of the hands of dangerous people. closer to home, an announcement is expected in the case involving a brother accused of killing his twin and this trial was declared last

month because the jury couldn't reach a verdict. he is accused of killing his twin brother in 2007. he is held without bond at the county detention center. while you were sleeping, route 665 reopened after a police officer was struck. the officer is a 20-year-old veteran of thean arundel police department. the accident happened along 665and route 50. police say the road reopened after 2:30. the officer was hit while trying to stop a car sunday evening. two cars came around the curb can and one hit another in the rearch the car that caused the accident had two passengers that took off. those two are in custody. the officer is still in the hospital but received minor injuries and is expected to be okay. now to a deadly on saturday evening. 22-year-old justin stambaugh and 21-year-old welly green were killed -- welly green were killed. speed -- willie green were

killed. stambaugh left road and the car rolled over. a man was eating crabs in the courtyard and was shot in the head. victim died saturday from the injuries. if you have a newborn you may not be looking forwards to getting them vaccinations. >> there are tricks doctors sayto calm your baby after the shots. >> temperatures supposed to be in the 90s today. what the boston marathon and officials there say people have to look out for who signed up for that run. you are looking at the live picture of boston. that ski line -- skyline for the run, you are waking up to what's new in baltimore. good morning maryland returns in a bit.

identitiesing a -- terrorizing a black community. five people were shot three died from their injuries. nearly 20 pharmacy thefts have been occurring across texas and they are taking pain killers and here's the trick. they are getting in and out in two minutes. the suspect fills up the basket full of oxycontin and the thefts occurred since january 1st of 2012. all around the greater houston area. the crimes fear concern the d -- concerns can the dea concerned they are going to end up in schools. we hear about a thief flying into a burglary. three planes were hit in south carolina. 34,000 dollars worth of equipment was ripped off from all three planes. airport security says this's no evidence of a security breach -- there's no evidence of a security breach and thieves had to have flown it in. north carolina student is being suspended for hugging his

teacher. teacher broke up middle school horseplay and that's when the hug occurred. according to the school board, it's a violation of two school politician. the student's father says his son is falling behind in school and upsetting to be suspended over a hug. here at home fire bands have been -- bans have been lifted but that doesn't mean the threat of brush fire has gone away. a brush fire started last night near edgewater marina behind holiday point marina. no injuries were reported but they want you to keep it in mind. those along the eastern shore are encouraged to save water a drought watch has been issued for the eastern shore except cecil county. water conditions for the rest of the state are said to be at normalels will -- norma -- shall norm -- normal levels. more than 100 tornadoes touched down. at least 120 tornadoes hit parts of kansas, oklahoma, nebraska and iowa. the cleanup is underway and the search for survivors.

showers and thunderstorms, potent around louisiana. a line of showers and thunderstorms. but i am happy to report there's no super cells that can can spin up the tornadoes quickly. right now, looks like they are dealing with strong convective winds pushing into the area and small hail across the area. but as this line approaches towards the east for today, this line will lose its punch. so that's some good news. but, the storm prediction center does have western maryland in a slight risk for severe weather going throughout the day. and also portions of ohio and even new york and pennsylvania. but for the most part, we will be out of that for today and we will get lots of sunshine in the forecast. looking at the satellite and radar, doesn't look like a lot of sunshine or clear skies. but these are the high clouds that will be funneling in going through the day. with that, we will get plenty of sunshine and that's going to help to work the temperatures up. but right now, close to 70 degrees in baltimore right now. close to 67 degrees or actually

67 degrees right now to be exooct in d.c. 63 in easton along the eastern shore. we are starting off that warm and getting the southwesterly flow and high pressure out in the atlantic yurks know the temperatures will soar and we will deal with record breaking heat for today. future trend not picking up on a whole lot. we want to pick up the rain but we have a slight chance once again going late into tonight and into early tomorrow morning. our best chances for rain will be as we go through the weekend. we have a chance for showers to work their way in here on wednesday. but all in all, for the most part, we should be be staying dry across the area. for today, this is what i am going with. 87 degrees. we will be warmer outside for today. and borderline hot. but as we look at the 7-day forecast, we get cooler as we have the showers in the forecast. saturday and sunday, that's what i am keeping my fingers crossed. keep your fingers and toes that we get rain because we are going into drought conditions
