our seasons have been out of sync since december. from west virginia to maine, there are cries for rain. today it's the heat. some cities are flirting with all time marks. remember that, 10 years ago. strongly worded warnings we told you about, are credited with saving lives. dozens of twisters rolled right through. amazingly only one turned out to be deadly. diane alvear has the latest from woodward, oklahoma. >> reporter: the devastation from woodward, oklahoma, did not and with the storm. a sixth person had died as a result of the tornado that took direct aim at the town of 1--$12,000. it was 136 tornadoes. >> that is unbelievable. >> it's coming right for me. >> reporter: forecasters feared it would be a weekend bound for

the record books. despite widespread devastation, authorities said lives were spared thanks to early storm warnings. >> thank you for paying attention to the alarms that went off and the warning signs. that's the reason we have not received fay fault -- fatality. >> reporter: many were left in the dark. >> it was make circles, stripping around. i'm surprised. those trailers are still standing because it cut straight through oar loor lacy ran house to house alerting herghbors. >> there was a tornado on the ground. the sirens are not going off.

route 50 just before cars have to move right. you have a recipe for disaster. >> reporter: every time an officer pulls over they're risk their life. that was the case when the officer attempted to stop a car and it braked to a stop. the officer instructed the driver to move to the shoulder. the toyota celica came around that curve and slowed down when it saw the flashing lights but the car behind it did not. >> at that point the celica was struck from the rear. that vehicle struck the celica, that hit the officer who was attempting to avoid that collision. >> the ac cow a still struck another car and ended up in the guardrail. the officer later identified as

corporal cameron mont suffered injuries to his lower extreme ties and were taken to the shock trauma center. this underscores the heightened danger of some of their most routine duties -- policing our roads. >> many officers are killed on roadways. this is indicative of how dangerous it is and then sustained serious injuries from a vehicle. >> reporter: officers tracked down two of the suspect as short distance away. they have a person of interest in custody who may prove to be the driver. that case is still under investigation. skeletal remains are found here in north baltimore police say the bones, including a skull were discovered in the 1600 block of 41st street. they're being taken to the

medical examiner's office for investigation. the first man arrested in that st. patrick's day beating got a bail today. as brian kuebler explains to us. parsons' attorney believes the bail is over the top. >> reporter: the video went viral. it is disturbing and degraigd and happened in the heart of downtown baltimore. but defense attorney warren brown said it fueled the million dollar bail for his client. parsons is shown punchings and knocking ot the victim but said his role stopped there. it was the other people in the video who robbed and strengthed the victim. he said the bail for his client is set too high.

leaves four people dead. when fire crews arrived, the flames were too intense. the father was coming in from work when he realized his family was inside the burning home. the wife, two children and grandfather all died in the fiermt none of the home ames smoke detectors were working. five years ago today we didn't know what to think. we had never seen such a deadly day on the campus. it was the day more than 30 students were shot and killed at virginia tech. bells rang out at the school's capital square, one ring for each of the lives lost. dozens of the survivors, many of whom have since graduated, used the anniversary to push congress for stricter gun laws. >> so my question to speaker john boehner. my question to eric cantor, to
