a comeback. they're popular for several reasons. stick shifts are usually less expensive than cars with automatic. on the downside they tend to get lower gas mileage. during the first quarter of this year 6% of the cars sold had sticks shifts. it's the highest percentage since 2006. traffic on the jfx is not going to be pretty starting tomorrow evening from 10 p.m. to 4 in the morning. traffic will be stopped all together in the northbound lanes of the jfx. they will repair underground drainage pipes. the jfx will reopen except for the left lane in either direction on friday morning, but then each -- until sunday night.

use a tanning salon. patricia krentcil came to court to plead not guilty for taking her daughter to a tanning salon. >> as you can see, -- very tanned. >> reporter: the 44-year-old is clearly not condition certained about the warnings of tanning bed but authorities said she took the daughter into the tanning bed and being charged with second-degree child endangerment. >> it's not true. i would never put a child in any form of danger. >> reporter: that's what mom says but the school nurse noted anna had a rash and called child services after anna said it came from tanning with mom. >> when i say tan, i tan.

track academically. sherrie johnson shows us how the program is making a difference. >> reporter: all is quiet in the library in west min sphemplet students have paired up with mcdaniel football players for one on one help. the players serve as mentors giving students someone to talk to. >> they have an understanding so they know what you're going through and they can help you. >> reporter: this is the first your of the program. mostly 8th graders take advantage of it. the mentors teach them the importance of making good grades. teachers see less behavioral problems in class, an increase in attendance and better grades. >> the students get excited about it. it helps build their self-esteem. they take a little bit more pride in their work now. for the football players, it offer as since of responsibility
