that southerly wind at 5 to 10 miles an hour. we are getting gusts up to 15 to 20 miles an hour. the breezes will stick with us going throughout the day and i will detail when the rain gets in here. but let's check the traffic with lauren good morning how are the roads. >> reporter: good morning. well, so far so good out on the roads. if you are heading on to the jfx, be aware of the ongoing construction. one lane will be shut down in both directions at 28th street as the morning continues. child street not look like a bad alternate. traveling through the fort mchenry tunnel and will be nice and clear. and once you get on the beltway, here's what it looks like in the parkville area. everything is up to speed. looking at a 9 minute ride from here up to 83. and the west side here's liberty road. no delays to talk about in this vicinity where you are look at an 11 minute ride from 795 toward 95. that's a look at your abc2 time

safer traffic. now back over to you. >> 4:32. speaking of traffic, we have more on an alert for you this morning that may noaffect your morning commute but it could be a headache for late night drivers. >> it could be a problem and sherrie johnson is standing by live at the jfx. why orioles fans could be impacted by the plowsures. >> reporter: yes, we are -- closures. >> reporter: yes, we are here near the jones falls expressway. traffic right now is not bad at all right now. but be prepared for more delays heading this way overnight closure at jfx at 29th street will continue for two more weeks. crews are work to replace a dough lapsed drainage -- collapsed drainage pipes. you can take a left on 29th and get back on the jfx. one the full closures are lifted, the left lane in each direction will off limits until the two million dollar project

al-qaeda bomb plot yesterday. officials say they uncovered the plan for a bomb on a u.s. bound jetliner. coming at 5, why official believe bombers with similar device cos get through airport security and official say the threat is far from over. a rockville man videotaped asking the president to help him being released from pakistan has gotten a response from the white house. officials say the government will not negotiate with al- qaeda. the white house couldn't confirm whether or not the president had seen the video. warren weinstein was kidnapped last august. demands for his release include all prisoners charged with crimes tied to al-qaeda and tal been a be released and -- taliban and release of osama bin laden's relatives as well. prosecutors are change the day former penn state assistent football coach assaulted a boy. originally it was march 1st, 2002. now they are saying it took

consider a request to extradite joran van der sloot to the u.s. he is serving time in prison for murderer in peru. 4:45. they were weeks away from graduation star athletes and honor roll students. >> lives cut short in a crash on prom. linda so is here with the loss of two teens from hagerstown. linda. >> reporter: students at william poured high school are mourning the loss of two classmates about to dprad kuwait. samantha kelly and brendon colliflower. he was driving samantha home to change. they found out about the crash because samantha had not responded to more than 20 text messages. both students were on the honor roll and accomplished athletes. samantha was all state volleyball play and on tennis team. brendon was an all state player

and signed to play college baseball. loved ones gathered at the crash scene and pieces of the sports car could be found on the road. >> the whole front of the vehicle was totally destroyed because of the impact. it appears the engine came back to the driver's portion of the vehicle. and it was very severe. >> reporter: police say there are no signs that drugs or chog were involved but they are waiting on toxicology reports. linda so, abc2 news. a aaa releases a report about teen driver and -- driving a news conference will announce research on teen drivers kick off a global youth traffic safety month. transportation secretary ray lahood is expected to attend and it begins this morning at 10:00. and don't forget about your teachers. that's because it's national teachers day. a chance to recognize the importance of educators and share thank yous to those who make a difference in kids

lives. former gaithersburg teacher is behind bars this morning arrested for several sex related offenses. use he is accused poaf seeing child pornography soliciting students for touch and inappropriately touching two students. a little girl is in critical condition after being hit by a lawnmower her dad was driving in harford county on kensington farm court in forest hill. the 5-year-old was airlifted to the hospital. the girl's father didn't see her and accidentally backed over her. around the nation, the john edward trial continues. testimony is expected to continue from a former supporter of the once presidential contender. former staffers of edwards are scheduled to testify. he is accused of misusing campaign funds to hide a mistress. she took a risk to text the word help they found her and a man forcing her to drive around to buy drugs.

this happened when the woman slowed down to get to the highway and the suspect knocked on the window. and thinking he needed help she simply rolled it down. that's when police say he got in the car and the woman managed to text her boyfriend who got help. it turns out the man's been arrested 55 times since 1988. on a lighter note a fight over a pig named wilbur like charlotte's web end well for a family. homeowners association wanted the family pet out but unmonday a judge decided the little piggy can stay home. he was part of the sardo family since was 7. the hoa told them wilbur had to go arguing it violated deed restrictions against live stock and the family got an attorney and won. they are going to be back in court soon to decide who is going to pay the attorney fees. lynette. i am not kidding you. i always wanted a pig. i am not kidding. >> that's charlotte's web. yeah. hello,. >> they are smart and we had neighbors with a pig and they are smarter than dogs. >> you know a friend of mine

we look at satellite and radar, and we are in the thick of things. more clouds just like we saw yesterday. off toward the west, some showers out across the area. looks like they want to move into our area and they will begin to do so but they will dissipate a little bit as we go into the afternoon. and then pick up more as we go into tomorrow. but, again, not ruling out the chance for showers going into the afternoon but not as heavy as you are seeing right now. so this is the weather pattern that slide our way. and we will be bringing us much needed rain. now the good news is i am going to put future trend into motion. let's skip past but let's tell you what is going to happen. future trend shows outeastern shore will get the bulk of the rain because remember they are in a severe drought so aid good thing. it will knock down some of the wet weather we need. we will be getting it as we go into tomorrow. so definitely have the rain gear. we will need it then. now we look at the hour by hour forecat. we will get breezy going throughout the day. and it will be a mild day on tap getting the southerly flow.

and that's the warming wind that i talk about. temperature coming in right around 75 degrees for today. even though we will have the cloud out there. now, getting set for the game today, well, first pitch at 7:05. they are taking on the texas rangers. temperatures around 73 and we will have showers and storms possible so we will see if anything gets held up because of that. it's going to be windy with the wind out of the west. we look at your 7-day forecast here. and we start to see beautiful weather as we head into mother's day on sunday. that temperature right around 74 degrees. all right. time to get a check of the abctime safer traffic with lauren what do you have on the road. >> reporter: well, so far so good on the roads. yesterday we launched a abc2 timesafer traffic and it's design to make your morning commute easier. it allows me to zoom in on incidents that will affect the commute. the jfx has construction that's blocking one lane in both directions. but we are looking at high 56 miles per hour traveling

southbound. traveling through the fort mchenry tunnel, everything is up to speed and this program has a travel time feature that tells you exactly how long it will take to drive from point "a" to point "b." so, right now we are in great shape on the 895. looking at a 12-minute ride from downtown baltimore all the way to elk ridge. up on the northeast corridor of 95, no concerns. it allows me to pull up live images of the roadway. no problems right now on 695. here's a look at bel air road. everything is up to speed if you are heading out looking at an 11 minute ride from 95 to 83. the west side going to be nice and clear. what this system does is it allows me to track the traffic flow. so here's a live look right now. everything is in the green. no concerns. 95 north of 695 no problems if you heading to 495 it will be nice and clear. no delays yet and very easy ride as you travel north in to baltimore city. that's a look at your abc2 time safer traffic. now back over to you. 4:53.
