a disturbing hit and run crash in new york. an may 3rd -- look at that flying into the air. the dramatic video and witnesses helped police catch the u.s. the driver was arrested and charged with assault, reckless driving and fleeing an officer. check out this surveillance video. a man appears to be attacking a woman and her 4-year-old daughter. the video was taken outside of a store in springfield, mass mass. the man walked up to the mother and daughter. she runs away. he tries to grab the girl, but she gets away, too.

tonight we're going to introduce you to ava, a feisty 9-year-old who's suffering from a brain tumor who -- that could have taken her life. >> reporter: the family didn't know many when they moved from north carolina to elk ridge. now they have many people who have rallied around them. ava is a soccer player and clear leader and big sister and very, very good student and she will be again. it's just going to take a little while. >> she's working hard, therapy three time as woke for four hours down at kennedy krieger. >> reporter: she started having headaches. she was physically sick and the left side of her face drooped slightly. turned out it was tumor putting pressure on ava's brain.

>> she kept insisting, going to the headache clinic and because of that fact, ava is here today. >> reporter: avap spent more than 40 days in intensive care where she had several small strokes. she has to learn all over again, learning how to walk and talk again but she still knows how to hug and by moving her arm, she's telling her family that she loves them. >> we want it bring awareness and if we can help them through our story and what our daughter has done through and what our family has gone through, we want to share that with others and help ease their pain. >> my name is ava. >> reporter: they say they've been overwhelmed by all the kindness they've received. volunteers built this and this allows her to learn to use her

carroll county into reisterstown, some rain on the west side of the beltway. that makes driving that much more fun, especially toward 70 and 40. rain also toward cecil county, kent county generally dry. right now temperature wise. 70 dulles. there is warmer air receipt below baltimore and we projected low 70s today. it came close. i don't know if we'll get there. we have another hour or two. winds are from the south. that is helping to pile up water into the chesapeake, added water. we think above normal high tides, so a coastal flood advisory has been issued for southeastern baltimore county and eastern anne arundel county, so we will continue to watch for that higher than average high thighed for the rest of the night and as we look at the humidity levels very, very high, 100% in frederick.
