humidity is high in many spots, so plenty of moisture to help fuel those showers as they come am later this evening. we'll call it for 70, cloudy mild conditions and heavy rain overnight. much more on that coming up. you know the grass may be wet in your lawn but the state is still suffering from one of the dryest springs on record. it has extended a drought watch to much of the viewing area. jeff hager joins us with the details. >> the drought watch extends to harford county as well as baltimore and it isn't the big drought like 10 years ago with water restrictions and fines. the department of environment expanded it based on ground and surface water levels along with rainfall totals that will come up short like we saw in nearby

dover and easton. downtown today pushing up close to 80 degrees early on. 78 for our high temperature downtown. we did hit the mid-70s in frederick and d.c. all right. here is that active weather to our south. i think a lot of this may direct east of baltimore. you have to look at the trajectory, a large cluster of rain here over central virginia. that is tracking north and east. so much of this rain may past east of the baltimore area. the eastern shore. the part of the rain that needs the most likely to get the most rain as we go through the latter part of the evening. in baltimore we'll get some rain. definitely know that. that area of low pressure sing the rain in our direction and a lot of it will be going up the eastern shore and just off the atlantic coast offshore. tomorrow, just some passing cloud cover, maybe a morning shower. thursday looks dry. friday looks better.

in our health alert, questions about the amount of medicine that we're giving our children. a research letter publishedded in the journal of the american medical association said in 2009 only 46 being of drugs had correct instructions on how to use them on our kids. kids can metabolize medicine different from adults and many drugs are never tested on children. so figuring out a safe dose that works can be guesswork for
