are starting to look up if you're sick of the rain. those showers pushing off towards the east and we will be cool with some patchy fog across the area this morning. so let's take a look at maryland's most powerful radar as of now, we industry some downpours once again overnight those sliding to the east. the eastern shore got in on good rains and that's definitely something we like to hear. with we don't like -- what we don't like to hear is that we have patchy fog out there. only five miles in baltimore and also easton. nine in york, to the tens that we're seeing into frederick and also hagerstown. they can do downhill through the morning but i'll be here to monitor that situation. take the jacket out and about this morning. all right, let's get a check of the abc2 timesaver traffic. so far, so good. if you are using the jfx watch out for the ongoing construction that's shutting down one lane in both directions right near 28th street as the morning progresses, falls road even charles street not bad

organized to push for a statewide referendum on the bill. >> many people are going to have to search deep within and figure out do they still support the president and vote for him or do they not support him and not vote for him. >> it just showed that the president is a real person and you know he took his time to come out you know, and take a stance because he -- you know he went back and forth with it just like a lot of voters are doing right now. >> republican candidate mitt romney reaffirmed his stance that he is against same sex marriage. opponents of the same sex marriage bill here in maryland say they've already gathered more than 30,000 signatures to getting a referendum on the ballot in november. megan? in dc today the washington national cathedral is planning to dedicate -- >> we'll have more on this on abc2news.com. my apologies. >> no worries. again, the national cathedral now preparing to dedicate a new carving of a civil rights activist row is a parks at the center of the church devoted to human rights. there's a ceremony this evening

one of parks' nieces will be there. the baltimore basilica will be open to the public longer than expected this summer. last august earthquake it was supposed to be closed for repairs in june but it got pushed back a few weeks. officials for the basilica say the consultation process has taken longer than they originally thought. in annapolis next week's special session and on monday state lawmakers will be back at work a task they were not able to finish during the regular season. the state's top democrats said the budget will include new taxes for many marylanders. >> better approach is the balanced approach. an approach of cuts, investments, and yes, revenues to support those important ongoing investments. >> our january budget proposal. >> leaders expect the special session to last three days for each day it's going to cost taxpayers about $30,000. another special session -- another session rather will take place during the summer to

focus on gambling. and today members of the naacp launching a historic voter outreach effort called this is my vote. it's a civic participation program. the president and others are expected to speak about the new voting laws in several states. 34 states have proposed legislation that would restrict voting for an estimated five million voters by limiting organizations from registering voters. the naacp president says laws are unprecedented and an aggressive attack on voting rights. today the charles village pub in towson celebrating being back open for business. >> yeah, fire destroyed that popular spot in january of last year and today abc2's linda so is back out there. >> reporter: the county executive will join the owner laters this morning at 11:30 for the grand reopening. now it has an outdoor patio and

it is now 4:39 and welcome back. a hailstorm in south dakota brought out more buyers to one car dealership than had been previously expected. the general manager says they're having the sale of cars at a discounted rate because of damage done by the storm. customers even making calls to the dealership asking about the lower prices because it's so much damage due to hailstorms that happened on those car lots they want to lower prices and they're going to get the cars when they can. time now for a check of the forecast. here's lynette. all right, charlie. we're looking around the nation here and we can see basically we're quiet in a lot of spots

children of a baltimore county firefighter paramedic. >> recently he enjoyed a small victory in his fight to bring his children home and abc2's sherrie johnson is here with more. >> reporter: this morning yes, a small victory, another legal victory for stan. it's another step closer to bringing his children gabriel and anastasia home to baltimore. two years ago they were taken to trinidad with their mother leah. it's an international kidnapping case that stan has battled in the courts while he's been given full custody and he received another victory. a baltimore county judge found his ex-wife in contempt of court and right now he's waiting for more legal action like an arrest or the state department to get involved. meanwhile his legal fees are soaring over $100,000. his friends are busy planning a bull roast fundraiser to help him out. >> hope and pray that the signing of this order that leah will bring our children back to their home here in baltimore.

>> reporter: now that bull roast fundraiser will be held on may 18th from 6:00 to 11:00 at the american legion post in parkville and for more information head to the website at abc2news.com. sherrie johnson, abc2 news. well, tomorrow a hearing will be held for the suspects white house shooter ortega- hernandez. police say he aimed a rifle and opened fire in the direction of the white house hoping to shoot the president. today hers can be known as -- toddlers can be known as terrors when they hit the terrible 2s but one parents say their 2-year-old was on the no- fly list. this happened tuesday night at the airport in fort lauderdale. she and her parents just boarded a jet blue flight heading home to new jersey when an employee told them they had to get off the plane. they believe this happened because they're both middle eastern descent. >> and i said for what? and he said well, it's not you or your husband. your daughter was flagged.

as no fly. i said excuse me? >> it's absurd. >> it made no sense. >> why would -- why would an 18- month-old child be on a no-fly list? >> after being questioned, the family was told that they could reboard. they were too embarrassed to get back on that flight so the airline says it's investigating while the tsa says that they are not because the family would not be given boarding passes if they were on a no-fly list. well, a gas station attendant in cleveland, ohio wasted no time in helping a customer when she was being robbed. the guy in the blue shirt is asking the customer for a light and then tries to grab her purse and an employee comes running out to help. she sat on the robber's head holding him down and then the station owner came out with the yellow caution tape and they tied him up. talk about ingenuity. the pair held him down until police arrived. an accused drunk driver in new mexico took police on a wild horse chase. the man drove his truck and

started doing laps on the horse track. the man broke through the gate at the casino and broke his pickup truck on to the horse track. police finally set up a barricade to stop that man. i guess that's one way to do it. >> that's one way you can take him down. do a couple of laps on the track, maybe a time trial or do. don't do that at pimlico. okay, go to weather. >> today we are going to see improving conditions finally the sun will come back. >> good. >> we needed the rain that's good but into the weekend i promised you some sunshine mother and you're going to get it. we can take the twins out. what's going on right now because the rain is pretty much out of here and we're going start to clear things out in the rest of the morning and into the afternoon. lots of sunshine will prevail today and especially tomorrow and heading into saturday. right now though, temperatures are a little bit on the cool side. yes, they are above average we should be at 49, actually we should be at 50 degrees now for a low temperature for this time of the year. we can see that we are a little

bit above that so still feeling cool. we will have those winds out of the northwest today. that's really going to help cool us down as well. so high pressure is building in behind this front. and with that we are going to be a little bit on the windy side so as you head out and about today make sure you plan accordingly. ladies you might want to just put the hair in a ponytail because it is going to be a little bit on the brisk side. future trend not picking up on a whole lot. that system pushing out to sea, maybe a few clouds moving in here through tomorrow but all in all ample sunshine. get out there and enjoy it. because we will have some change coming in the forecast as saturday looks good and even as we go into mother's day. not looking so bad. yesterday we had a chance for some showers in the forecast. but it looks like high pressure will prevail even as we go through the weekend. maybe just a few more clouds for mother's day. i'm going show thaw forecast in just a moment. but here's what we have your hour by hour forecast. so we start you out at 8:00 still breezy out there and temperature coming in at 60 degrees. the winds will begin to pick up out of the northwest at about 10 to 15 miles an hour.

a new warning for parents about children and radiation. the fda says that it wants to change the amount of radiation that children expose to at the doctor's office. exposure to radiation means a higher risk of cancer and it's specially dangerous for children because their bodies are developing and they have more years ahead of them for cancer to grow. >> standards and research need to reach a certain level and so we believe that there's now a body of clinical evidence that supports our guidance to manufacturers. >> so parents should always ask if the test is needed if the it

went missing during a demonstration flight has been found in a mountainous region. rescue workers on the grounds now have been searching for the plane and not yet been able to reach the wreckage. 15 people were injured when a bus carrying tourists from south korea veered off the highway and fell off of a cliff in taiwan. now this tour bus experienced engine failure while traveling up a steep road. all of the passengers on the bus along with the tour guide and driver were sent to a local hospital for treatment. the olympic flame lighting ceremony now taking place in greece as we speak. there is a live look. for the first time in the game's history the ceremony is being broadcast live on the internet and after the flame is lit it will travel throughout greece before going back to the uk. it will then visit 1,000 uk towns before going to the opening ceremonies again in london for the summer games. time now to start the 5:00 hour.
