"good morning maryland." i'm charlie crowson. >> i'm megan pringle, thank you for joining us. it was really wet out yesterday. >> it was a soaker out there. lynette what's in store for us today? >> well, the rain has pushed out so we have been getting the best of both worlds. we had the rain move in while you were sleeping and you might not have even known it happened. as we look at maryland's most powerful radar though, here's the proof. right there. pushing out of the area but right now we are dry. and that's going to be the scenario for the rest of today. now we're stepping outdoors this morning. this is what you're stepping out to. temperature in jess up 52 degrees right now. good morning to you. woodbine you're at 53 degrees and 52 in edgewood. close to a half inch in jess up and .35 in woodbine and edge water, .34 of an inch. right now the winds are sustained out of the northwest at about 5 miles an hour in a lot of spots imto about 10 --

up to about 10 but some gusts out there during the day up to about 25. this is what we're work welcome this morning. we had the patchy fog once again. six miles of visibility reduced and four miles of reduced visibility in easton. take it easy on the roadways, time now for a check of the forecast -- traffic forecast that is with lauren. good morning. good morning lynette. well, we are off to a foggy start so do expect reduced visibility across the region. might be a good morning to turn on the low beams. traveling through either the fort mchenry tunnel or the harbor tunnel, nice and clear. that will be the same case on the northeast corridor of 95. here's a live look at 152. no delays whatsoever. it will remain clear into the white marsh area and only a four minute ride from 43 to 695. if you are going to the beltway. here's a look in parkville at harford road. only an 11 minute ride on the outer loop from 95 up to 83 and the west side will be clear on

the outer loop from 795 down to 95. that's a look at your abc2 timesaver traffic. megan and charlie back over to you. news time right now 5:32. president barack obama is the first u.s. president to declare support for same sex marriage. and in an exclusive interview with abc's robin roberts that's going to air in less than two hours the president announced he will be supporting same sex unions. it brought swift reaction from groups. it also brought less than a surprise from the maryland marriage alliance. that group of ministers who have organized a push for a statewide referendum on the same sex marriage bill. >> it has many political supporters. financially. that he has to speak it on the issue and i think it's a calculated move and he's going to have to see does this work out or does it not. >> much like the president a lot of folks have struggled with the issue. and so it's important that we continue to have the

discussions and really really educate folks about it. >> republican candidate mitt romney reaffirmed his stance that he is against same sex marriage. opponents of the same sex marriage bill here in maryland have already gathered more than 30,000 signatures to getting a referendum on the ballot in november and they're going to need more than 55,000 signatures by the end of june. actually june 19th is the date. both sides expect they will reach that total. today the charles village pub in towson celebrates the grand reopening and abc2's linda so is live this morning. >> reporter: hey, megan, the place has been completely rebuilt. it's bigger and better and it has an outdoor pub and an outdoor patio. and later this morning at 11:30 county executive kevin kamenetz will be joining the owners for the grand reopening. fire destroyed the pub back in january. it zits on west pennsylvania in towson and was a popular spot for the people who work and live around here. after the fire the community rallied around the owners who

decided to rebuild. we recently got a sneak peek inside the new place has two floors and has a bar inside and out. you'll see some familiar faces too. 20 workers from the original pub are back. >> very excited for everybody coming and enjoy what we've been able to do here and just everybody to be able to appreciate come here. little bit of the old pub and have a lot of the new pub too. we're very excited about it. >> reporter: and for a closer look that grand reopening is at 11:30 this morning. we're live in towson, linda so, abc2 news. in news around the nation this morning the fbi added to the list a mississippi man charged with kidnapping a tennessee mother and her three daughters. and killing two of them. they are also offering a $50,000 reward. the announcement came amid the intense man hunt in northeastern mississippi with 35-year-old adam mayes and two girls he is accused of kidnapping. they are 12 and 8 years old. his mother and ex-wife they were arrested in connection with this case on monday.

teresa mayes is the sister of bobby booth. she says she fears for the girls' lives. >> adam do to right thing and just let the children go. this is gone on way too far. it's not fair to the children. we need to figure out what's going on. >> the fbi is hopeful the two girls are still alive. today a court hearing is scheduled to figure out what will happen to a 9-year-old boy. he's from ohio and he has been in foster care because he's obese. the boy who weighed in at more than 200 pounds then was pulled from his home. this happened last october. he is now slimmed down to 166 pounds after living with his uncle in columbus, ohio. we want to know what you think about the story. should obesity be grounds for child abuse and the child be taken away from the parents? head to the facebook fan page and give us your thoughts on what you think about the story. a new jersey woman with the extreme tanning problem now back in the news this morning. it may not be a problem to some

this morning. the olympic flame lighting ceremony took place an hour ago and for the first time in greece's history the ceremony is being broadcast life on the internet. here's a look the ceremony that took place. the flame is going to travel throughout greece before going to the united kingdom. it's then going to visit around 1,000 uk towns before begin to the opening ceremonies in london. they start by the way on july 27th. the closing ceremonies take place on august 12th. president barack obama is honoring burt back rack and hal david with the nation's highest prize for popular music. ♪ >> the song writing duo received a library of congress' gershwin prize. it features the likes of stevie wonder, you see right there. sheryl crow, lyle lovett and others, the concert will be broadcast may 21ness on pps part of the series in -- pbs

this time 5:44. a firefighter paramedic savored a small victory in the fight for his kids. sherrie johnson is here with more on the fight and what he's trying to do to bring them home and exactly how much it's costing him. this is a pretty penny. >> reporter: that's right charlie, for two years stan hunkovic has been fighting a custody battle trying to bring

the kids home to baltimore. he lost his kids when they were abducted by their mother leah and take on the trinidad. this mother he's celebrate -- morning he's celebrating a small victory which brings him closer to the children gabrielle and anastasia. another judge found his ex-wife in contempt of court. in the meantime, he has legal fees of over $100,000. his friends are planning a bull roast fundraiser to try and help him out. >> every little victory helps. it's just you have to keep chipping away. ideally we want these babies home where we know they're safe and protected and taken care of. >> reporter: now the bull roast fundraiser will be held on may 18th from 6:00 to 11:00 at the american legion post in parkville. for more information head to the website at abc2news.com. it's all in an effort to help stan hunkovic fight for his family. sherrie johnson, abc2 news. well, if you are looking

for an economic mobility, living in maryland might help. that's according to a new study. that's released by the pew charitable trust. take a look at this. it found that 21% of maryland residents saw their earnings rise in their mid 30s to late 40s. more marylanders are in the bottom half of the earnings and they saw their incomes rise relative to others, a few in the top half saw a downward slide on the earnings ladder. researchers believe education is key to economic mobility. it's going to be a game seven for the washington capitals in the stanley cup playoffs, this is going to be saturday at verizon center though last night the caps beat the top-seeded new york rangers 2-1 in regulation. no overtime needed in this one. alex ovechkin and jason chimera gave the home team a 2-0 lead. and the caps held on behind braden holtby. yeah. game seven saturday night it's going to be at the garden in new york. rain canceled o's game last night. so if you have time you think head to the yard for a doubleheader. it is single admission at the

and doctors told him he'd never walk again. unassisted at least. and this is when he discovered yoga and that changed his life. you can hear his incredible story the morning on "good morning america." that's expected to run about 8:15. all right, it is all about breaking records today. the school in owings mills the students there are taking part in a nationwide attempt to break the guinness world record for the most people reading a single book in a reading relay in one day. the current record is 415 people. this event is also trying to raise awareness about dyslexia. and how people with the condition struggle the most with reading. so again that's happening today. well, students at old mill middle school in millersburg are getting a treat today. ray rice is going to congratulate them on their efforts to eat healthy and stay fit. it's part of the fuel up and play 60 initiative fighting childhood obesity. 's going to encourage the school to be taking part in the fuel up program and also take

questions from the students. well, here's a question i bet you never really thought of. does social media give you the same pleasure as sexual experience? >> maybe it's a question that you can pose on your facebook page. >> really? >> to your friends or your twitter followers. seeing a few heads in the studio, they're shaking their heads no but a new harvard study found that sharing things about themselves on the social media sites activates a sensation of pleasure in the brain that is the same pleasure as having sex. really? but probably not the same degree. so let us know what you think if you want. you can weigh in on facebook. time now for a check on weather. lynette talk about the forecast. >> okay, thank you. so we are dealing with some patchy fog in the wake of this system that's pushing off into the atlantic as of now but we're starting to see some clearing out there so we will get some sunshine as we go later into the morning. and also as we go into the afternoon. it seems like high pressure is really going to do its thing. that's coming up in just a minute but here are the numbers, we have reduced

visibility this morning. only about six miles in baltimore and four in easton. no type of change whatsoever. here to monitor that situation to see whether they go up or down some more numbers for you. we have some winds today out of the northwest as they work their way in here. we will be seeing some gusts up to about 20 to 25 miles an hour as we go into the afternoon. easton still looking at 0 but you will pick up as we go west into -- into the rest of the morning and also the afternoon. temperature-wise this morning a little bit on the cool side although temperatures are above ample. grab the jacket as you head out and about and again that northwesterly flow is going to make it feel a little bit chillier too. now future trend not picking up on anything as high pressure will build in through the day. we'll see more of that on friday and even into saturday and yes we got the rain and we needed it and we are drying out. that temperature coming in right around 69 degrees so we will struck toll get to 70 -- struggle to get to 70. here's the forecast for tomorrow.

that temperature right around 73 degrees. mostly sunny skies. and seasonable. time now for a check of now of the traffic with lauren. good morning lynette. do expect reduced visibility and might be a good morning to turn on the low beams if you are going to the jfx. we have an accident southbound right at st. paul street and it has been moved to the shoulder. not causing any significant delays as of yet but just north of the accident scene we are dealing with all of that ongoing construction. shutting down one lane in both directions right near 28th street so falls road not a bad oles this morning. -- option this morning. if you are traveling through the tunnel everything up to speed. that's going to be the same case on the northeast ardor of 95. here's exactly what it looks like at white marsh at route 43. some construction in the area but you have a very easy four minute ride to 695 and here's what the beltway looks like in parkville. just 11 minutes from the outer loop from 95 up to 83 and to the west side no concerns as you make the push on the outer loop from 795 down towards 95.

prosecutors have indicated that they will wrap up their case against john edwards today without calling the former presidential mistress to the stand. now it is unclear right now if the defense will call rielle hunter to the stand. that begins on friday. president barack obama's heading out west today for three campaign fund raisers. one of them includes dinner with george clooney in l. a.. the fundraiser is going to be expected to raise around $15 million. vice president joe biden is meeting with students at the white house today to talk about student loans. the bill is to keep the rates from doubling. it's still being debated in the senate. the road show begins for facebook today to pitch its ipo

to investors. that's basically initial profit offering. now ceo mark zuckerberg is expected to be involved in this. he met with a group of about 400 investors earlier this week in manhattan. the i po offered on may 19th. and butt dialing 911 is apparently not that uncommon in the big apple. the "new york daily news" is reporting that almost 40% of emergency calls in 2010 were butt dials. police responded to 3.5 million homes because of the accidental calls. if you're curious to how this happened. got your iphone and it's on the lock screen. if you got your lock screen on and you have to put in a password lower left hand corner, that's an emergency phone call. that dials 911. >> did not know that. that's how it's happening. >> never butt dialed 911 though. all right, well pretty bad scene in boston in the neighborhood there. a car smashes through a house. >> coming up in just a bit if that wasn't bad enough crews had the deal with -- to deal with, wait until you hear who was behind the wheel.
