police say the victim pulled up to a light when another vehicle came up alongside her an shot her several times. the woman was shot in the upper chest and head. she is in critical condition. they are trying to piece together where the victim was coming from or going to, but right now with this happening so early in the morning and no witnesses around, they don't have much to go on. >> what we're really hoping for is that her prognosis improves and that we're able to ask her some questions about where she was or if she knows her attacker. >> coming up at 6:00, we'll speak with people who live right there on the corner and hear their concerns about not just how this shooting went down but why. brian kuebler, abc2 news thanks a lot. now to the new twist in the case of a missing 2-year-old.

friday, cooler dryer air arrives. it looks pretty nice as we move into preakness weekend. so that's a big deal. some baltimore city students got an up close and personal education. the foundation teaches students about the environment. abc2 news education reporter sherrie johnson has more. >> reporter: it's an exciting day for the green school of baltimore. today a work boat called the snow goose with the chesapeake bay foundation is their classroom. it's part of the program to educate students on the environment and the bay. >> it's fun and going to be interesting because this is -- on this trip we're going to be putting our oysters in. >> reporter: students have been growing baby oysters in the harbor.

today they're taking them out on the patapsco river. >> oysters aren't doing good in the bay. we can hopefully turn it around. >> reporter: teachers love the partnership with the chesapeake bay foundation giving them a chance to reverse the bay's decline. >> they need to see what we're talking about and we find that these shared experiences -- they grow a sense of community between the kids and this attachment to the environment that upcan't learn through books. >> reporter: this type of hands-on learning has a big impact with students and helps giving them the tools to succeed and help the environment. sherrie johnson, abc2 news. >> this is the sixth year the green school has been involved with the program. the chesapeake bay foundation educates students in the fourth grade to college level as well as teachers. so you put your locks on the

we're getting you up to the minute lawmakers are back in annapolis for a three-day special session to approve a budget deal. governor o'malley and others have already come to an agreement including income tax increases for people making more than $100,000 or more and households making more than $150,000 a year. it will help the state avoid cuts to education. a woman was shot several times. police say she was stopped at a red light when another vehicle pulled up and someone inside started shooting her. police have no leads but believe the woman was targeted. detectives are reviewing surveillance video from the area. right now, you've been outside. it's been a gloomy dreary day
