let's get a check now of the abc 2 news time saver traffic. a little bit of patchy fog out there but not so damaging to the roads this morning. >> not tood about out there this morning, yes, good news. if you are getting a head start on your memorial day travels, no reports of troubles on 97 all the way down to route 50. this is what it looks like at the seven river bridge. no delays to talk about as of yet. so it will remain clear as you travel across the bridge and make for a very easy ride to the beaches. you will be in good shape if you are heading out of town this morning. as for the beltway, closer to baltimore, here's a look at liberty road. you are looking at an 11-minute ride on the outer loop from 795 down towards 95. it will remain clear on the beltway from parkville all the way up towards towson. but we do have our first accident of the morning. it's in baltimore county right in nottingham on bel aire road at rossville boulevard. that is look at your abc 2 news time saver traffic. over to you. exactly 33 years ago today

etan patz disappeared on his way to a bus stop near his new york city home. now a man has been arrested in connection with that boy's death. abc 2 news' linda stow is here with what's expected today and how police were initially tipped off. >>reporter: we've learned someone in ped ro hernandez' family called police saying they should question a relative. it's believed that hernandez talked to the family members about the crime over the years. today the 51-year-old is expected to make his first court appearance. hernandez will be charged with second-degree murder. police say he gave a 3 1/2-hour videotaped confession. hernandez who was 19 at the time of etan patz's disappearance says he lured the boy from the school bus stop with the promise of a soda. he says he then took him in to a basement, choked him, put his body in a plastic bag and dumped it in the trash. hernandez, a former stock clerk has no prior criminal record. he lives with his wife and teenaged daughter in a new jersey apartment. neighbors reacted to his arrest. >> he seemed like an all right

guy. he had a wife and there was a young daughter, and they said hello and everything, they were always smiling. >> a little freaky. my daughter plays in the back yard and he's back there mowing the lawn. finding this out now is a little weird, a little scary. >>reporter: and despite the arrest arks law enforcement source says hernandez' confession is being treatd a healthy dose of skepticism. police have not uncovered any forensic evidence linking hernandez to the case. linda stow, abc 2 news. 5:32 right now. new this morning republicans in the house of delegates are opposing a special session to take up proposed gambling expansions in maryland. two republican leaders sent a letter to the legislature's presiding officers and to the governor. they say special sessions should only be called in times of crisis. earlier this week o'malley indicated that a special session could be held in the week of july 9th. well, some tough news today

to the man who led i'll have another to the first two of the triple crown. doug o'neil has had his california racing license suspended, 45 days after one of his horses was found to have a performance booster in his blood. the horse is not i'll have another. that's important to note. o'neil's punishment starts after july 1st so i'll still be hands on on i'll have another. 60 members of the maryland national guard will be deployed today. the soldiers will head to afghanistan for one year. a deployment ceremony will be held today at aberdeen proving grounds and it starts at 10:00 this morning. the unit previously deployed to afghanistan in december of 2007 and came home in may of 2008. 300,000 flags are going to be placed at arlington national cemetery to honor fallen military heros. a flag was placed on every single grave site yesterday. this is a tradition called flags in and it started back in

1948. this is done in observance of memorial day which is, of course, on monday. at the delaney valley memorial gardens 3500 flags will be placed at grave sites. then on monday the annual memorial day ceremony will be taking place honoring our military personnel. seven members of the military from our state were killed in may of last year over in iraq and afghanistan. they'll be honored. the ceremony starts at 10:00 in the morning and concludes with a wreath-laying ceremony as well. this memorial day send us your pictures of a veteran or a current member of the military. send those to pics@wmar.com or upload them to our facebook page. you may see some of them on the air on monday morning. taking a look at news around the nation, a one-time rising football star sent to prison for rape has now found out he's innocent. now he's being released because the accuser took back her initial story. brian banks choked back the tears. the 26-year-old waited 10 years for this day. his rape conviction was overturned because it never

thanks for joining us this friday morning. facebook has launched its fourth individual iphone app. this time it's a camera. the facebook camera app is intended to enhance the facebook photo experience on smart phones. the app will allow users to view a feed that focuses soley on pictures. it will also allow them to upload mobile photos at the same time as well as edity the pictures with captions and still pictures. just four months after having her daughter, blue ivy, beyonce is now ready to return to the stage. she's performing four soldout shows in atlantic city and they begin tonight. new york daily news reports that beyonce was originally going to perform two shows but two more were added due to demand. tickets have been going now for upwards of $1700. iphone users beware. the question you may ask siri. >> the concern this morning over the possibility of siri

5:44. a look at your top stories this morning. attorneys in the trayvon martin case want some evidence kept out from the public realm until trial. prosecutors and george zimmerman's attorneys have filed motions asking a judge to keep statements that zimmerman gave detectives and the names and addresses of witnesses from being publicly released. zimmerman is charged with second-degree murder for fatally shooting trayvon martin. the bill to prevent student loan interest rates from doubling has hit a major road block. the senate rejected democratic and republican plans to keep

the rates from go up. that means efforts to resolve the dispute will be delayed until next month. the interest rates are going to double to 6.8% on july 1st. the mitt romney campaign is hopeful an opportunity to dine with donald trump will bring in donations. you see, by donating $3 online, people will be entered into a raffle for a chance to have dinner with trump and the presumpitive gop presidential nominee. now, the winner will also stay at the trump international hotel and tower in new york and tour the celebrity apprentice board room. a military lawyer who formerly represented a soldier charged with killing 17 afghan villagers is now defending bradley manning. he's the private accused of sending hundreds of thousands of classified documents to taleek brooks. -- to wiki leaks. he was removed earlier this year to help defend staff sergeant robert balancees. -- bales. he stepped down after they

disagreed about the defense strategy. what you don't know about your apple iphone, interactive voice or siri could actually hurt you. sire and other data collection apps are now putting you at risk. a software licensing agreement with apple says when you use siri, things you say will be recorded and then sent to apple and converted to text. siri also connects other information like names, address book and other sepsitive data. it's to help siri to do a better job but puts your critical information at risk. the department of agricultural is now cracking down on food stamp fraud. the usda says the stamp cards being issued are turning up in increasing members on craigslist and e bay. new rules proposed would give the states the option of putting food stamp recipients if they continue to request replacement cards. investigators say that's a sign the cards are being sold. what's better than friday? how about getting something free on friday, thanks to free sample mama, we have a section on abc2news.com where you can find something for nothing.

closed too. officials say the days right after a holiday are especially busy. so if you can put it off a few extra days, do so. you're encouraged to take care of your business online if you can do that as well. metro is now using a long holiday weekend to make improvements to the rail system. it's going to start today at 10:00 tonight and continue through monday. it affects passengers traveling on the greenline between greenbelt and fort taughton. you'll have to take a shuttle bus in between those two stations. on the redline trains will share a single track between wood forest and takom. allow 10 minutes for travel times. more than 100 bicyclists are going to be riding from boston to northern virginia to honor emergency medical service workers, and today they are making a stop in tawnytown at the volunteer fire dment. this is the final leg of the national ems memorial bike ride. the group will be presented with a proclamation from the governor. a baltimore county public

library kicks off its summer reading club today. county executive will read to the class of second graders from logan elementary. kids can start signing up today but the reading club officially starts on june 12th. last year a record 46,000 people participated. and, lynette, i don't know if it's a great weekend to get inside and read it, might be for those who don't like the heat, right? >> yeah, if you don't like the heat. but if you love the heat you're definitely going to want to get out there. i'm not forecasting that much rain, maybe a couple of isolated showers or storms to pop up in the heating of the day. visibility a little bit of a problem in some spots this morning. we only have about seven miles of visibility in easton right now along the eerp shore, algt in york, five in hagerstown, two m winchester and three in culpepper. still looking good now in baltimore and also d.c. let's take you outside in dundalk because we do have some clouds hovering across the area. you can see that key bridge, so that's definitely some good news, but, again, we are patchy in spots. that will be the scenario for some areas this morning. temperature wise we are mild.

i'm just going to say we are warm this morning because look at the 70s in germantown, also jessup. upper 60s basically everywhere else. good morning galena, you're at 67 degrees. more of the same in centreville and 69 degrees right now in edgemere. we are humid, very balmy outside. you can see these dewpoints, the measure of the moisture in the air. when you get into the 60s you are feeling it. when you get into the upper 60s, that's when it begins to become uncomfortable outside. the satellite and radar picking up on some clouds, but we will get some sunshine in here just like we did yesterday and the day before that. now, future trend is picking up on some scattered showers, isolated showers as we go through this afternoon and then we'll do it all over again on saturday and then also sunday leading into your monday. so that's what you can expect. take the rain gear, but if you have a shower, just wait until it ends and then go back out and do your thing because it's going to be a nice weekend on tap for you. 85 degrees is what i'm going with today. but temperatures will soar into the 90s as we head into the latter part of the weekend. let's get a check now of the

abc 2 traffic report, and this is with lauren. good morning, lauren. >>reporter: good morning, lynette. medics have been called to the scene of the accident in baltimore county. it's right in nottingham on rossville boulevard at bel aire road. if you are headed out to 95 in the area, fortunately no concerns. here's a live look north of route 43. you are looking at a four- minute ride from this vicinity all the way to 695, so it'll be nice and clear. when you get onto the beltway here's what it looks like in parkville at hartford road. on the outer loop you're looking at a nine-minute ride all the way up towards 83. if you are using the jfx into the city, no concerns southbound. speeds are clocking in at 60 miles per hour right now at cold spring lane. for those of you get ago head start on the memorial day travel, no problems to report on 97. it will be clear from the beltway all the way down towards route 50. and if you are headed to the beaches, no problems, no delays whatsoever on route 50 all the way across that bay bridge. that's a look at your abc 2 time saver traffic. the work place can

a new jersey man has been arrested on a murder charming for the neap 79 disappearance and presumed murder of a new york city boy. police say pedro hernandez confess today luring etan patz from his school bus stop, choking him to death and dumping his body. the boy's remains have yet to be found. plans to produce the so- called pink slime are expected to be shut down today. more than 650 workers are scheduled to lose their jobs at beef products incorporated. the closures come after negative publicity over the company's boneless lean beef trimmings also known as pink slime. asthma sufferers may want to be careful at work. a new study from the cdc find that is 9% of all asthma cases in the u.s. are made worse by work place environment. researchers say work-related asthma can be prevented with
