become a tropical depression and make the turn back off toward the northeast as we will have an upper level trough move closer and it makes theture and locks like it will stay away from us. that's some good news. but, it's dropping rain where it needs it and southeastern georgia and northern florida, and a drought situation there. good news for them and also good news for us because we won't deal with any rains from bery almost. we look at maryland's most powerful radar and we are dry. we got showers overnight drying out for today and an isolated shower to pop up throughout the afternoon but for this morning, temperatures are warm. you can see them in the upper 60s in glen burnie and edgemere and we are dal with -- dealing with patchy fog and will deteriorate more going into the morning hours. i will monday forethat patchy fog. let's go back over to megan and charley. honoring our fallen heros on this memorial day. hundreds will gather to pay

reexpect to the men and-- respects to the men and women who paid the highest price for our freedom. >> we have what's expected for later this morning. >> reporter: you can't see it because it's pretty dark but we are here by the field of honor at delaney valley memorial gardens. you can see the flags set up. this is where veterans are buried and joining us is jack mitchell the president of the gardens. thanks for being here. tell us about the ceremony taking place at 10 today. >> this is where we honor the servicemen and women from maryland who have been killed in action in the past year. >> reporter: and this year there are 7? >> yes. most were killed in afghanistan, and i think the public has a perception since osama bin laden was killed there's not as much cause for fear of terrorism. but as i said, of the men and women were killed in afghanistan in the past year. >> reporter: dignitaries and color guard will be here but this is about the family and

those they lost and you will present a special plaque. >> each one will receive one of these plaques and you can see the depiction of a woman holding a folded american flag. kind of a scene that played out in world war ii movies war woman got a knock on the door and her son was killed overseas. and she received one of the flags. the family had that experience. >> reporter: got it. and today, the ceremony is opened to the public. >> yes. totally opened to the public. we expect over a thousand people. and it is nice to pay this recognition before the barbeques and boating and that kind of thing because that's what memorial day is for. >> okay. >> reporter: thanks so much for joining us you will be with us at 5, 5:30. the ceremony is opened to the public a nice way to honor those who have given their lives. it starts today at 10. live in timonium, linda so abc2 news. remember you can check a photo gallery we put together on our website honoring local

vets. there are several pictures you sent in to help us say thank you to those who served and are currently serving. find the photo gallery at abc2news.com on the home page. in other news, the u.n. security council finished a meet discussing the recent bloodshed in syria. a top u.n. officials says 108 people were massacured friday. many children. the security council called the killings "outrageous" and condemned them in what's called the strongest possible terms. the u.n. blames the government for the massacre but syrian official denies involvement. syrians mourn the loss of loved ones killed. you can see mass graves built for the victims. people took to the streets sunday outraged over the killings. the syrian government says it was al-qaeda and a linked terrorist group that killed the people. a local man is rescued from the pretty boy dam and. and was taken away in a police

cruiser. he tried to go swimming with the gates of the dam opened and climbed along the edges to hold on. his friend called 911a fear fighters attached to a helicopter went down with a har -- firefighter attached to a helicopter went down to bring the man to safety. >> as we secured him with the strap tied to the helicopter. >> what was his reaction. >> he was ready to get off. he was cramped up and kind of in a squatting position trying to hold onto the dam itself. >> no signs at the top of the dam to avoid situations like this. no word if the search crews have been able to find a boat here disappeared in the chess pee bay. the 21-year-old jumped off the boat to take a swim on sunday afternoon, but a half mile west of hale point is where he went under and have not resurfaced.

state police and the coast guard went out to help from police are look for suspects in shooting of a stabbing in north point. it happened around 11 sunday morning near the 700 block ofaldworth road. they found a man with a gunshot wound and a woman stabbed. the man is in critical condition and police say it looks like the two men may have forced their way into the home and a fight broke out between the homeowners and the suspects. crab cakes, football and lacrosse is what maryland does and that's what is happening in foxborough massachusetts. university of maryland lacrosse team will take on the greyhounds for the ncaa championship. loyola is making the third trip to the championship game. you can watch it on espn starting at 1. people in parts of california were looking for warm spots to travel. >> it didn't happen. we will look at the storm that has. had them changing their memorial day weekend plans at the last-minute. >> what a study says about the effects friends can have on how

welcome back. news time 4:39. and for many, memorial day isthe-official start for summer. but some in the sierra nevada mountains, it didn't lock like summer. drivers and campers had snow, rain and sun forcing them to stop and take a break from the wet weather. kids made snowballs and mom and dad were making fires keeping everyone warm. >> i thought this would be a warm and beautiful tahoe weekend, but this is also beautiful. >> it's freezing. we thought we were going to go up to the sun in tahoe. >> not so much. the families who were at the camp site came prepared and they brought things with them to keep warm and keep cool depending on the weather.

here's lynette. >> all right. let's talk about what he a going on around the nation -- what's going on around the nation. across the middle part there's unsettled weather. minnesota has showers and thunderstorms and the threat will push further to the east throughout the day. but our eye once again takes us to tropical storm beryl and it's dropping heavy rain across southeastern georgia and alsonorthern florida a drought area. when it's all said and done they could receive 6 inch of rain or a little more. here at home, the satellite and radar not picking up on a whole lot. clouds earlier this morning. things are i did minimum diminishing through the rest of the morning -- diminishing through the rest of the morning. we could see popup shower isolated in nature throughout the afternoon. we will stay dry like we have been through the whole weekend. now, temperatures are mild this morning coming in right around 67 degrees in sparrows point. rock hall at 68 and galena at 67. 65 in northeast. good morning churchville at 64 and we should be at 56 degrees

now for this time of the year. we will heat things up. i will tell you how hot it will get and when we cool back down. let's go back over to charley and megan. looking live at the chess pee bay bridge a couple lane closures are going to take effect -- chesapeake bay bridge. a couple lane close are going to take effect. one lane eastbound will be closed wednesday through friday and that's 9 a.m. to 2:poo in the -- 2:30 in the afternoon. if you have to go to work, your commute could be easier. if you take the jones falls expressway, all of the emergency repair work is done. crews replaced collapsed drainage pikes and construction workers thought they would be finished in june. but the weather cooperated and allowed them to complete all the work this month. >> good to see them done ahead of schedule. red flags are out. high winds rip currents shaking up those from the weekend on

not picking up on a lot in terms of the cloud cover. but we had a few showers. when you wake up this morning, you can see the ground will be wet because while you were sleeping, showers rolled through. we could do it all over again going into the afternoon. let's go to where tropical storm beryl is bringing lots of rain showers across southeastern georgia. definitely need the rain and also northeastern florida. i know they are dealing with a drought situation there. and you're wondering what he happening with tropical storm b- eryl. this is what's going on winds sustained at 50 miles an hour moving west at 6 miles an hour. but it will begin to make the turn back off towards the north and east. so, it will not be affecting us as we go through the next several days. we will get some rain in here because that cold front will begin to slide a little further towards the east and then that is when we will get rain showers in the forecast more steady in nature. future trend goes into motion, most of the rain stays away from us for today. i will keep the chance for an

isolated popup thunderstorm with the heat and humidity this afternoon. but all in all we will stay dry. and then the next chance for showers roll in going into tuesday evening working or way into wednesday morning and then that gets out of here and we dry out for a day. and we will have another storm system working its way into the area. for today it's going to be hot and humid and that temperature i am forecasting will be around 90. but it's going to feel more like we are in the mid-90s because of that humidity. that's why we have that heat index advisory going out or the heat advisory rather that's going out at lunchtime today. and we cool things down nicely as we head into the latter part of the week. back to you guys. >> that smell. have you taken a whiff of the inner harbor. it smells pretty bad. algea is dying in the harbor and that's going a domino effect on the ecosystem. it deprives fish and crabs of oxygen and nasty stinch. i was out there friday afternoon and talked to megan
