what's called the field of honor. joining us this morning is jack mitchell, the president here. this is a tradition you caried on since around 19 -- carried on since around 1967. >> that's correct. the previous owner of the cemetery started it and my father and i continued this tradition since we took over five years ago. >> reporter: and it's to remember the true meaning of memorial day. >> exactly. i mean, it kind of defines why we have a memorial day holiday in the united states. and this is a ceremony that's opened to the public. so, for people who are going to be firing up the grill later on or going out on a boat, it would be nice for them to come to this ceremony this morning because this is really why we have the holiday. >> reporter: it starts at 10 and this year you are honoring 7 men and women who died in the past year since may of last year. >> exactly. that's correct. and one of the servicemen who we will be honoring who was killed a few months ago, he was a physical education teacher and some of his students will be here today to lead the pledge of allegiance and that should be very special.

>> reporter: you give each family's special plaque. you have one here. >> yes. yes. and this is given to each family. they will be here today. i think they feel a bond together. they all feared they might get a call their loved one was killed in action. and it actually happened for them. so e. think it's important for them to kind of feel that bond knowing that their loved one made a great sacrifice for the country. >> reporter: the ceremony we covered it every year and it's beautiful. and it's for the families. how does it feel just to see that you are making a difference in their lives and remembering their family members who have fallen? >> well, i get kind of emotional. you see the families that come up to take the plaques, and there are lot of tears you know and my heart goes out to them. it's really an honor for us to be able to do this for them. >> wonderful. thanks so much. this ceremony begins at 10 this morning. and it is opened to the public. live at due lanny valley memorial gardens linda so, abc2

news. traveling home to work the rest of the week should be easier when it comes to getting around the jones fall expressway. emergency repair work is done. the repairs were needed because of the collapse drainage pipes and years of significant washout created a safety hazard. construction workers thought they would be finished in june. however, the warm weather cooperated and allowed them to finish ahead of schedule. amtrak is now back up and running this morning. but there may be some delays. service has restarted between washington, d.c. and philadelphia after it was suspended for about three hours by overhead wire problems. an amtrak spokesperson says the crews are trying to complete repairs on wires north of baltimore. so that may cause delays. about 30 minutes. a man was rescued from a pretty boy dam in parkton and taken away in police cruiser. the fire department says 24-

now "good morning maryland." to columbia missouri where an apartment complex has been leveled after a fire ripped through it sunday morning. look at the video. firefighters says the building is is a total loss. estimates put the damage at 7 million dollars. the fire went for an hour and a half before crews arrived. they had to wait for hot spots to die out before looking for a

latest on tropical storm beryl. >> georgia, florida, south carolina, they are under watches. ab c hass the -- abc has latest. >> reporter: tropical storm beryl crashed the memorial day party. the storm made landfall overnight in northeastern florida, packing 70-mile-per- hour winds. just short of a category one hurricane. it continues to cause heavy rain and wind and meteorologist expect the weather system will keep dumping rain in florida and georgia throughout the day. tens of thousands are already without power from savannah georgia to daytona beach. and jacksonville, a state of emergency. the city's memorial day plans scrapped. >> due to the concerns for the public safety we have canceled our memorial ceremony at the veterans memorial wall. this storm has the ability to produce localized flooding, down trees, and down power lines that can pose a threat to

that's why we are talking about the humid weather throughout the day. moisture levels are up there. once you get into the 60s, these are your dew points. and he they will feel it outside. once you get into the 70s, you are dealing with the tropical weather. and that's what you usually get in july. so this pattern is fairly unusual to be be this early. now, heat advisory is in effect for today. so we have for the areas here shaded in the orange color, and we are looking at a code orange in lancaster county and york county and points further northward. so, it's going to be very bad if you heading to the area for people that have lung disease. then we have an excessive heat advisory warning basically and the pink colored shadeings. now, this is what we are looking at as we look at the satellite and radar. not a whole lot going on across the area but we go to beryl where we are getting lots of rainfall across georgia andnortheastern florida in an excessive drought. and that's good news for them. they can see over 6 inches when
