and frederick county on top of that. so definitely some significant weather. first, take a look at the setup. you see the storms popping up to the west. as we look at the radar, here it; big line of storms, tremendous amount of lightning coming through to the hagerstown area. we'll continue to keep a very sharp eye on those storm clusters as they move west. you can see how hot it; a heat index of 97 fueling those storms. much more on the line when it clears and a look at a reemerging tropical depression beryl coming up. now the latest on a breaking news update. fire spread quickly gutting a structure and leaving the family homeless. jeff hager is back from forest him and joins us with more on the fire. >> reporter: if a-- it appears three generations of the family lived under one roof.

it's lucky they escaped with their lives. heavy smoke filled the neighborhoods surrounding disc sip lane as -- dixie lane as firefighters battled the flames. >> the reports indicated there were personnel trapped inside. >> reporter: fortunately, by the time the fire trucks pulled up the family had made it out. the homeowner was awakened at 4:30 in the morning. when he went outside to investigate he saw the glow from the fire. he was able to alert his wife, children and extended family to get out just in time. >> there were five adults and two children under the age of three displaced as a result of the fire. >> reporter: they discover add fired balloon. >> it could easily fall through

and fall to the ground, combustibles. >> this could have started the fire. the fire marshal had already picked up one beside the house. >> the state fire marshal on the scene said it's doubtful it caused the fire. nor is there a sign of arson. unfortunately, the dog perished inside the home. new at 5:00, baltimore city police are investigating a shooting on the city's west side. this happened on myrtle avenue northwest of pennsylvania near heritage crossing. a man was shot. bullets fly in east baltimore. when it was over four people were shot, including a 10-year-old boy. police were canvassing the area looking for clues. roosevelt leftwich joins us with more. >> so far, there are no suspects or no motive behind the

shooting. the 10-year-old is expected to recover after he and adults were shot below the waist. they were near montford. when police got to the scene they saw a man shot and two other kids. all were wounded below the waist. neighbors said it was a tar ri fying few minutes. >> i heard the shots. me, my wife and grandson dove to the floor. when we come outside there was one guy shot in the leg. i heard about seven or eight shots. >> reporter: folks in the neighborhood said this is the latest act of violence. they said a lot of the problems seem to be coming from folks outside of their neighborhood. we'll have more tonight at 6:00. the three men serving time

for drug distribution walked away from a west baltimore half house and turned themselvesment in antoine frazier left the house just after midnight sunday, setting off the alarm. today golfers from all over the world are right here in baltimore to show off their best swing. one of those golfers is vince pfizer. he was born with cerebral palsy. his love of golf kept him going. today the country club of maryland is hosting the 12th annual one warm golf championship. speak of sports, loy yes a fans still coming off the high with their team winning. today they are back in baltimore. joce sterman is here with how

they're feeling. >> reporter: in a word they're feeling emotional. the coach said they thought he was done with all the water works, but the tears came back when he started talking about the kids he works w the national championship trophy is back in baltimore at loyola. it's something the coach has been work toward for decades. yesterday when his players took the team and brought home the title, it all came full circle. >> they were able to do something that we were trying for, striving for, and they did this with class. they did it with dignity and character and here we go. it's a good group of young men. >> reporter: he hopes it will give loyola better recruiting and give this team the respect

the tsa wants to double the security fee you pay up to $10 round trip. the agency says it needs the extra cash for several reasons. it needs to cover increasing

parts of the south were pounded by what's left of tropical depression beryl it. prompted flood watches. it took down trees and power lines. susan was surprised that some people dismissed beryl. she had to deal with pretty high waters. >> oh, my heavens. you are hiney deep. stuff was blowing out of here -- big boards, just debris of all kinds, bottles, stuff. >> the national weather service is warning of a flash flooding. let's give you the latest.

we got a line of storms sparking a severe thunderstorm warning for washington county and allegheny county. in carroll county and frederick county a severe thunderstorm watch. north of the state line some severe thunderstorm warnings impact the york area as well. you can see why on maryland's most powerful radar a big cluster of storms toward hagerstown. one storm cell moving north of walkerville. if you're in taneytown you probably have another five or 10 minutes, strong thunderstorms, some dangerous lightning. not rated severe yet. then further west more storms pushing in. so, again, how much of this will hold together? we think it will hold together for awhile. there's so much heat and humidity to help fuel the storms. you can see the weather changing in western maryland through the day. as we take a look at our time

lapse, clouds clie up. mt. airy, also see a change. hot, sunny bright conditions early on. now, you can see things looking stormier at summit ridge. downtown a mix of sun and clouds. hot. 88 at the airport. but downtown we're talking about hotter conditions and the numbers showing that. 90 in easton. 89 at patuxent river. winds from the south around 15, gusting a little higher. to the west the winds have shifted. that's the cool front. temperatures will be somewhat cooler tomorrow but this will knock the humidity down with the dew points up near 70. still feeling like 100 degrees. in the state capital not much cooler. you're 94 in annapolis. to the north and west more active weather brewing and continuing to push its way. we see the line of storms back through western tennessee. that's our cool front.

we've got a circulation over the deep south. this is what is left of tropical depression beryl, helping to feed moisture into this line of storms that's pressing in right now. so hot conditions. our tropical depression will continue to swirl for another day or so before we think it heads offshore and restrengthens. tonight it's the frontal boundary. you she it coming into the state. we could see pop-up showers, pop-up storms, not completely out of the question. then into the wednesday time frame some clearing and cooler air finally beginning to arrive but at the same time that we're getting clearing inside the state what would be offshore? this would probably ab redeveloping, a restrengthening tropical storm beryl. overnight 71 with thundershowers, clearing from west to east. so not quite as hot. a chance for hit and miss showers and storms still. even tomorrow night could see an

evening shower or term but -- storm, but the best chance the rest of the evening into the overnight. cooler weather is on tap. there will be a new more chances for showers into the weekend. it's tough to pinpoint exactly how that mr. shake out but we'll cheap chance of a shower in for the weekend. we do know temperatures will be dropping quite a bit, which i think will be welcome. this heat and humidity a bit ahead of schedule. >> it's like august in may. >> heat indices over 100. that's not what we usually get in may. today jurors return for a seventh day of deliberation in the case of former presidential candidate john edwards. his older daughter kate was not with him. jurors are trying to determine if he's gild -- guilty of using campaign money to hide his

mistress rielle hunter. a parent's proud moment turned frightening. jeff davis watched as his daughter fell 20 feet while rock climbing and he caught the whole thing with his camera. >> reporter: watch as this moment of pride becomes huge terror as jeff davis watches his 11-year-old daughter free fall from 18 feet. he had taken emily and her brother zak to a ballgame and this climbing wall. you can see the 11-year-old scale the wall, ring the buzzer at the top and something went wrong. watch again as the safety rope goes slack and emily begins plummeting. >> there was a smack and smack.

four people were shot in east baltimore, including a 10-year-old boy. this happened about 9:30 last night in the 2300 block of east harford. police fond one man shot in the street. a fourth man walked into the hospital early this morning. all three shot there. were no suspects or motive behind the shooting. >> a family in forest hill is looking for another place to live after a fire destroyed their home. the homeowner said he was awakened by noise about 4:30 this morning. when he went out to investigate, he saw the flames and was able to alert his family to get out. emotioning running high after the ncaa finals in mass
