things have calmed down. sheets of rain have slowed but we're not out of the woods amount tornado warning has been issued for anne arundel county and howard county. we are monitoring it. since about 2:30 this afternoon, meteorologist mike masco has been on top of it. >> we are, again, drags the idea of more of these storms starting to rotate. the weather -- national weather service feels they need to shall you it. take a look at where the tornado

warning s it -- is. it's just outside of jessup. glen burnie is not in the warning yet. this storm -- if this storm maintains its strength, we could address further tornado warnings. let's put back the radar and show you the latest scan. it's showing us that we have a developing storm down to the south, south of 394. this is moving toward the northeast at 25 miles an hour. seven at 6:05. if you're in the path of this storm, you are going to encounter some vivid dangerous cloud to ground lightning, the potential of large hail certainly on the table and we'll have to watch and see if there's further rotation. we could see an isolated attorney -- tornado.

a tornado warning in effect. we have to watch it has it's going to move toward the north. we'll put the radar into animation mode. you can see how the position of the storm has been going extreme south, southwest toward northeast. this is going to go right over the southeastern city limits over the next 35 to 4345 minutes. these are slow moving storms. we are concerned with glen burnie. ferndale, will cross the baltimore beltway and right around the curtis bay area and brooklyn section of baltimore. this is a dangerous storm. the national weather service feels this could become a tornadic storm as it pushes toward the north. everybody will continue to be under a watch. it's still inside the peak heating of the day, sunset being at eight. we're about 5:30. we have more solar heating to get the storms to bubble up. you can see the line of storms

-- there's one storm over anne arundel county going toward the eastern shore. we talked about flash flooding concerns, saw it to the north and west over carroll county. this is a wall of water. it's called training -- one, two, three, four, five, six storms, dumping copious amounts of rain, just toward the west of baltimore. we'll be tracking it. we'll have numerous flash flood warnings in effect and we'll talk more about the radar and the watches and warnings coming up in a little bit. >> with this first cell that wrents through, are upanticipating worse -- went through, are you anticipating worse weather? >> we're still inside the peak heating of the day, joce.

i think right around 7:00 we'll segway from the tornado -- segue from the tornado risk. this is the cold front that will kick everything offshore. the storms are lifting from south to north. we're seeing the storms tapping into rotation. we have tornado warnings. once this pushes through we'll kick all the humidity and mess offshore and get into a better condition. let's break down timeline wise. between now and 7:00 there's a pretty good risk for tornadoes and as we head into after hours, 8, 9, 10:00, wind damage, small to medium sized hail. risk assessment for tornadoes still ongoing. you need to keep an eye on it, keep it locked on channel two and download our app so you can

showing you a photo of what came in. it appears to be tornadic activity. we believe this is from harford county, a scary situation. severe weather in our area with tornado warnings in and around the baltimore area, some of them expiring tonight in the next 20 minutes at 6:00. our meteorologist mike masco has been monitoring them and keeping track of the latest severe weather, severe thunderstorms and tornado warnings as they

come on and off the map. it's getting confusing. mike will give us the low june on what's happening. >> they issue, when it rains it powers. they issued several new warnings. let's talk about the flash flooding situation. it's 5:40, right in the heart of the commute, a lot of roadways are flooded. they have issued a flash flood warning and this tornado warning around anne arundel county. that will, spire at 6:00. a storm to the south showing some rotation and another one around pg county. let's not let our guard down from dundalk to the south, glen burnie, one of the areas. to the north we have a severe

thunderstorm warning for harford county and a newly issued one toward northern baltimore county. that's up until 6:00 as well. out toward the west we're watching more storms, frederick and a tornado warning again. that's set to expire around 6:00. this is the latest radar, maryland's most powerful radar showing an intense band of rain. we have been watching rainfall rates between two to four inches of rain. we've been seeing the flooding concern moving so slowly. the storm of the most severity is to the south of glen burnie. you can see where it is a tornado warning. we'll put a storm track on this. this is the storm that's capable of producing a tornado but also capable of producing a dangerous cloud to ground lightning and some large hail. we'll switch over to the live sweeping radar. i want to zoom back down into that storm that is set to move

toward the north and east at 20 miles an hour. it's going to bring it into parts of the harbor at 6:23 and bethesda at 6:23. if you live in a town or region that's close, you need to seek shelter, get into a basement if you do have it, better safe than sorry. as this storm will roll toward the north and east we are expecting dangerous lightning. let's go toward the north. bel air, just north of towson, perry hall. this is parallel. this is the system that's down to the south, south and east of you but you're still going to see some dangerous cloud to ground lightning, so keep it indoors. let's zoom it out and show you

the latest scan on the radar, just a tremendous amount of leeting in. we'll throw a lightning tracker. at times we've seen close to 300 bolts per 15 minutes. that is an intense lightning storm. we implore you to charge up your cell phone, charge up your ipod so you can stay connected. this is a storm that's been ongoing, producing tornadoes since 2:30. we're taping it to go -- anticipating it to go. we have a brand-new app called stormshield that will bring you the latest alerts as they come. a tornado watch. this will continue until 9:00. i'll talk to the storm prediction center and see if we can expand this until 10:00. it's showing intense, at least they're becoming stronger as

they push toward the east. tornado watch until 9:00. you notice everything is pushing from south to north. 5:45. we're still inside the peak heating of the day. we're still seeing the atmosphere, very volatile and the potential for tornadoes across the area. there are gusty storms. this will roll into rock hall over the next 45 minutes with intense cloud to ground lightning. there is the potential of a spinup tornado, just severe thunderstorms. it ames under marine warnings, down to the south of the city limits. this is the storm we are monitoring but also the potential for massive flooding as there's one, two, three, four storms toward d.c. that have to roll across the area. we'll talk more about it in

detail in just a moment. >> we'll show you what's happening in the baltimore area. it's been a crazy afternoon. this is dulaney valley road in baltimore county in the towson area. obviously, tons of standing water. people driving through it against the advice of officials who put out a twitter message telling people not to drive through this standing wart and use caution. it's deep enough to cover your car f you drive through it, you're taking a real risk. this is the aftermath from the storm that brought heavy winds, hail, knocking trees down and a lot of damage. we're still dealing with active tornado warning in frederick county, anne arundel count and howard county until 6 p.m. a tornado watch for all of the counties in our viewing area. we'll update you when we come back in just a minute.

if you're just joining us, we're monitoring severe weather in frederick, anne arundel and howard county. we want to share some of the photos. this one is an ominous look at baltimore, with the clouds that have come in today. this is low cups point, just very indicative of what we've been seeing with scary clouds coming in. this one came in, another look at the clouds vr forming. you can see things tarp funneling, lots is of reports. it will take a few days to hammer that all out. this is of a very dark funnel cloud that we were believe came from route 100. it has the appearance of a tornado. one lamps picture from dulaney

valley road, the rain. all of the storms have brought standing water, one caution for you. do not drive through the standing water, no matter how easy it looks. you may end up paying the price for. that alls of dealing with the big storms. mike masco, our meteorologist is here. >> the saying turn around, don't drown, we will touse with a flash flood warning so a long duration, flash flood warning. we have active warnings until 6:00, another 10 minutes for northern and central baltimore county. that includes harford county you have a severe thunderstorm warning until 6:00. down to the south where the atmosphere is still very volatile we have active tornado warnings for anne arundel county until 6:00. we'll see if this gets expanded and down toward pg county where there are some storms rolling

through pg county and still have to make it through anne arundel. i anticipate flooding into the areas. let's go over to maryland's most powerful radar. we'll show you the most intense toward laurel. it's lifting slowly to the northeast. dangerous cloud to ground lightning. we can also anticipate large to medium hail and in this area as it pushes toward the south we'll put a storm track on that. we could seat potential of a tornado. we've seen rotating wall clouds but have not seen any reports of confirmed tornadoes. here's some of the towns listed. this is when we're anticipating the storm to roll. if you live in an area close to the communities we have listed, you certainly want to take your tornado precautions. we'll zoom it out a take a look at the tornado watch. this will go until 6:00 for all of frederick county back to the eastern shore as the atmosphere is still very, very conducive

for the potential for further tornadic development. the good news, we are seeing a hole, but the bad news just outside of town you see wall, a line of water, training. this is lifting from south to north. again, we have one, two, three, five, six, storms that still have to go through the western zones. western baltimore county still going to be lifting toward the north. we'll be talking about the potential. union bridge -- say that again, please. we'll bring back to radar. let's go back to radar union bridge, potential of probably, i would assume it's a rotating wall cloud. if we go over to radar, we'll take a look at the velocity scan, there's some rotation with these storms, certainly probably seeing the potential of rotating wall clouds as the storms lift

toward the north. again, with we don't have and let's check the warnings once again coming up toward 6:00 we have the active tornado warning. it's possible for the potential of clouds and right around the union bridge again. if you live near union bridge, let us know what you're seeing but these storms rotating, lifting toward the north and east. that's going to be moving south of brooklyn park, glen burnie and down toward -- down to frn dale at 6:32. tornado watch will continue. we're watching for the potential of these storms re tating. let us know what you're seeing on our facebook at abc2 news and abc2news.com. the good news is we're starting to see everything lifting to the north. active warnings to the north. this is a pretty dangerous storm as it moves off the eastern

shore. temperatures into the 70s but the real story, not the temperatures, moisture in the atmosphere that's fueling the storms running at nor saturation -- near saturation level of 90 to 100%. you get the rotation aloft. get it down to the mid-level f we continue to see that rotation through the column, that's when we see a tornado. what we've seen today beside what we saw in carroll county and most of baltimore is the mid-rotation. we saw one on harbor cam, rotating wall cloud. that didn't collect fully to the ground. that's why we can't confirm tornadoes. assessing damage. so, again, we're still inside this part one of the system where the storms are lifting from south to north. here's the second part of the storm as it moves from east to west. this still could be a powerful
