you're looking at some of the devastation left behind from friday night's tornado outbreak. downed trees, buildings, more than a million dollars worth of damage. the fallston arks the national weather service says an ef 1 tornado touched down. jamie costello is live from the bel air corridor with the latest. a lot of cleanup to be done there. >> reporter: it's like getting a haircut, everything off the top. look what flew off this roof? all this stuff flew off the roof. here's the siding that hit the pole and stuck. this car was upside down on friday. as you can see it's right side

up. we're making progress. you know who else is make progress, keith matthews. he talked to us from his hospital room at shock trauma. keith? >> i'm recovering at shock trauma. i got a steel rod in my leg. i broke my leg and my arm. i popped out a socket and they put it back. i hope i don't have to get surgery and get it back in. so when i went to go look outside to check and see what's going on out there, the twister was sitting right at the front door, and i couldn't -- i couldn't run fast enough to get away from it, two seconds, and i was on the ground with, you

know, 3500 pound concrete wall on top of me. i thought i was a dead soldier. that's what i thought i was. my good buddy from forest hill, that's my number one man right there. he saved my life. tomorrow i get out of this hospital and i get into a rehab facility where he will teach me -- they will teach me how to walk. i have to learn how to walk all over. >> reporter: he's thanking mark for saving his life. did you hear about the phone call that david craig, the county executive made warning residents that something was coming. >> no i didn't. >> reporter: there's the tip.

>> they were all trying to get under shelter. keith's story is one story of what happened. it's amazing stuff. he had the worst of the damage. everybody has a piece of this. everybody felt some impact. you see buildings like this that will need major renovations. we talked to a patient. he comes out of surgery and finds his clinic in fallston has been destroyed or a dentist who completed a renovation. after 18 years, they have to start all over. we'll show you a little bit of what we saw as we looked at some of the devastation, some of the damage. keith's garage where he was, devastated a2500 wall collapsed on top of him. the metal bending around the form of that knocked down trees, roots pulled off as a result of that. there's some major construction projects that will be happening

in harford county. one complex we went to, they will need $500,000 worth of repairs. that's just one place up and down. you'll see damage somewhere. there were signs that are bent in half f you have one of the -- half. if you have one of the glass signs, those are bent. they are beginning the process. out here in harford county there were insurance adjustors. we saw people from the state trying to assess all of this damage here today and figure out where they go from here. there are construction teams that are probably going to come in from out of state. it's good to give a warning. the better business bureau will tell you be careful in situations like this. if you've got this guy's wall, you want somebody to fix it so you clan get back to business as soon as possible. a situation like this, you want to make sure you get a theme

maryland's most powerful radar not much. we have a shower moving through parts of lancaster county, perhaps a rumble or two in the offing over the next hour or so. we'll be watching this band from allentown to state college and altoona. this will be sliding to the south. 90-miles from baltimore city but we'll be pinpointing this, this pinwheel of moisture. so the forecast for the rest of this evening reflects those showers. as we head to the big board, it's a huge low. we'll let you know what this means coming up in your seven-day forecast in a little bit. we've got maryland live opening up on wednesday. now it seems like the floodgates are starting to open. there's already a proposal to add one in prince george's county and now the county

caught on tape, a garbage truck driver spots a runaway storm and reacts. the truck's dashboard cam was on the whole thing. the woman who was jogging lost her grip. the truck driver hit the brakes, jumped out and managed to get to the stroller in the nick of time. good news the boy inside was not

hurt. some terrifying moments as a pilot in nevada was forced to make an emergency landing. the plane's left side landing gear just failed. the pilot managed to bring the plane down on its belly and amazingly no one was hurt. well, an ugly jobs report sent world markets spiraling down. how the president is trying to put a positive spin on the dismal move. and we'll check in to see what the candidates are up to today when we come back.

today is the first time we're getting the effects of friday's job report and the disappointing day it led to on wall street. karen travers has the latest. >> reporter: markets were down as the fallout continues.

the u.s. economy added 69,000 jobs last month. for the first time in nearly a year, the unemployment rate went up. that news has investors rattled and coincides with a perfect storm of bad news around the world. the debt crisis in europe is only worsening. greece could withdrew from the euro and there's new concern about spain needing a bailout. five months away from election day, it spells danger for president obama's reelection chances. he tried to put a positive spin on the jobs report but acknowledged the obvious. >> we have more work to do. >> reporter: the president's campaign is going on the attack with a new tv ad slamming mitt romney for his record on jobs. >> when mitt romney was governor, massachusetts lost 40,000 manufacturing jobs. romney economics. it didn't work then and it won't work now. >> reporter: over the weekend both campaigns boiled down their

economic sales pitches. >> manufacturing jobs continued to rise. that's precisely because the president stepped in. >> it's not that we don't this this -- think this president isn't trying. we think that he is. >> reporter: they want to say what mitt romney is selling wouldn't be any better. the struggling economy is also affect 1% of the u.s. knocking them back into the 99%. the number of millionaires dropped by 129,000 last year. meanwhile, places like asia saw an increase in millionaires. it's attributed to the strong economic growth in asia while the u.s. nearly defaulted on its government debt. all right. pretty ominous looking sky. take a look at our weather bug

indicating a line of oath -- potent showers. we're pinpointing the line around 7:00, 8:00. be prepared for the gusty showers. we're not expecting severe weather. you can see this huge area of low pressure. this is enough lift to produce the showers. this is a pattern we'll be stuck in over the next couple of days. you can see the lows meandering. unsettled pattern, cloudy skies and cool conditions from now until thursday. in fact, you can see we're stuck in the 60s and 71 in ball. look at nashville, jackson, miss mirks -- mississippi 90 degrees. here's the rest of the forecast.

number. tory dunnan joins us from washington. new numbers out that mitt romney may be gaining some favor among voters, right? >> reporter: today we're talking about the favorability rating. there's a new cnn/orc poll out it. shows 48% of voters have a favorable opinion of mitt romney. that number has been slowly going up. to put all this into perspective, it was back in february that romney had 34% of voters having a favorable opinion of him. that same poll shows where the president stands, 56% compared to romney's 48%. >> all right. tory dunnan, thanks for that live report. we'll check back with you tomorrow. >> well, we've learned today that former gop herman cain will
