protection. >> terrifying. he never thought he'd go through anything like this. >> reporter: fee an say jackie young was back here, still stunned and staring, looking for keys. keith and two others were hurt in friday's storm which left a swath of damage. >> it's an act of god. you just have to take it the way it is. >> reporter: he was coming out of surgery when he got the call his office in fallston had been hit. the roof here and all over the complex had been ripped away sending water on everything inside. >> we normally zoo have chairs out here. >> reporter: now it's the air from the fans, hard work of crews and the passage of time that will fix what is ruined. the tornado showed its strength

at ran do. following down a fence here, turning over a car there. pieces that can be picked up and put back together. it will be tougher, though, for keith matthews, his friends and family. >> i can't even begin to fathom what help went through, his thoughts. i just can't imagine. none of us can. it's devastating and appalling what happened here. >> reporter: we want to slow you a little bit of the situation that keith matthews was in on friday night. it was amazing stuff. he was look at a window that doesn't even exist anymoshings talking about this wall that cram down on him, the people that were here with him hauled him out. jamie has spoken with keith matthews. he is at shock trauma but his family is planning to go to rehab to get help on his

country life farm is strewn with debris. >> the tree fell and missed the office by three feet. >> reporter: no power, no phone, no telling how many were coming over for a graduation party that went on as and. >> just as the trees in the front yard fell down. >> reporter: ponsd spelled danger-- ponds spelled danger but the horses are all saved. the horses are all saved. look at this. these are all the power lines left over from friday and the debris. it's almost like this tornado bounced, hit one community and bounced. lamont williams has more on how it was selective on friday. >> reporter: to seat path of friday night's storm, all you have to do is look up.

trees sheared off like match sticks, showing how it moved up the route one corridor. >> take a look at my yard. seems like every tree was down. i just had branches. i was fortunate. it's amazing how it can pick and choose. >> reporter: dave fleming was on his way home when it hit. >> i had to walk. i was surprised how dangerous of a walk it was because in addition to the downed trees, there are power lines. >> it landed in the woods across the streets, right next to the contractor. >> all the trees fell around the place of business right here and knocked them all down. trucks with broken windshields

littered the parking lot but these guys had the equipment to handle the disaster, turning the falling trees to mulch. they received raved reviews from residents. >> it makes it pretty convenient for getting the debris out of here quickly. if they didn't do that would have to haul in somewhere. they got here quickly. i can't say enough about baltimore county and baltimore gas and electric. >> well, lamont told towels look up and -- us to look up and we can see the proof of the damage. that's aluminum sides. here's the big problem that they have. right here, i'm not going to touch. it we have electrical problems.

guess what, bge has been out here since friday. don harrison has more on how they're trying to get the power back on. 35,000 marylanders lost power. the hardest hit area was fallston. the men hit the road running. junior davis was one of those meant he worked a 16-our day saturday to help -- 16-hour day saturday to help. using a chain saw on the ground is dangerous, but 30 feet in the area brings dangerous to a whole different level. >> you got to be real careful, especially people with generators. sometimes they may not have them hooked up right. that's why we have to make sure we test and ground everything. >> reporter: 800 men and women were part of the bge crews to

get the power restored. >> it gets kind of crazy. >> reporter: darryl satchel has been doing this for two years now and he's already been through a lot. >> you have the adverse weather. you have the heat. you deal with alt weather and the customers try to -- try to work around the customers. >> it was like a freight train coming down the street. >> reporter: zachary butler is one of the thousands who had damage and lost power. >> they did an excellent job. they put their lives on the line to provide a service for the customers. they did a pretty good job. >> in fallston, don harrison, abc2 news. >> keith matthews said he will be back within a year.

he's getting ready to go to rehab. a family drove by and said possibly three could move him in tonight. we're live tonight in fallston. kelly? >> thank you for that live report. you're here throughout the duration. i was in forest hill. the next thing i know the tornadoes rolled through the area. >> in terms of historical, no because maryland; believe it or not, a state that's very susceptible to tornadoes. we've seen an ef 4 that killed people. we have a quick list just to show you. 24 tornadoes only back in 1995. 20 in 1996. in 2011 we had 11. it's not uncommon for tornadoes to touch down in maryland. harford county alone had 10.

these are between ef 0 to ef 1 rankings. winds from 80 to 102 miles an hour. they were quick touchdowns. we didn't see long tracks. but this is quite an outbreak. one tornado, we would be wall to wall. >> are we talking about -- they rolled through quickly. >> very, very quickly. one thick -- thing i did noticed, they touched down several times. that was the trend. it was a quick situation and within 40 minutes we went from a radar with nothing to two super cells that were capable of producing tornadoes. take a look at some of these areas that were impacted.

we have damascus, gaithersburg, fort meade and springdale all with one tornado. actually two in mt. airy in carroll county. residents in carroll county cleaning up. a tornado was a four-mile stretch snapping trees, damaging houses all along the route. roofers, tree companies and insurance adjustors are busy at work. it's going to take some time to rebuild. >> it was small. nobody got hurt. so that's porchlt things can be fixed. , a place to live and they'll be fixed and we'll go on. >> the national weather service says there was a lot of damage caused by downdraft and straight line winds as well as some of the flooding. we weren't the only ones to get

hit by this severe weather. this is what this looked like in hampton, virginia. a tornado moved across the james river and hit it where the annual black bird festival is held. >> when i look at this, first, i was just numb. now the reality sets in. you think about it and just pray for the neighbors that they're all right. god was with us. >> the national weather service confirmed at least two tornadoes touched down in virginia. >> now we want to take you back out live to harford county. abc2 news is working for you and work sthog keep your family safe from -- working to keep your family safe. text wmar to 96788.

we had a breezy afternoon. take a look at our melanie lawson cam -- at our ellicott city cam, dundalk showing us the ominous looking clouds. ocean city, had a couple people early on. here come the clouds as they rolled. now we're left with temperatures in the 60s. so here's the harbor cam.

it's a nice looking skyline. you can see the sun reflecting off the pavement. still a pretty dry humidity value at 45%. that wind had a kick between 15 to 20. warmer and dulles at 73. d.c. and we're talking temperatures with the sunshine that were warmer down our southern points. here as the winds between 10 to 15. last hour we had a reported wind gust of 21. the winds will remain breezy. we'll take you through hour by hour. waking up tomorrow morning to 61. a peek or two sufficient sunshine -- of sunshine. showing a pretty clear picture for much of the city limits. cecil county, down toward elkton, a flareup over -- kent

county. we'll be watching it. there's a band of steady showers over central pennsylvania. this is drifting from north to south. it will be in the vicinity, our immediate vicinity as we head toward the immediate hours. so this big hear of low pressure. this is responsible for the clouds and showers. it will pinwheel the spokes of in the pockets of showerses, from now right into did showers -- showers from now right into thursday. this will remain chilly on the below average side. 80 in roanoke. memphis at 85 degrees. some of this branches off as we head into the latter part of the week. take a look at future temps, by wednesday, limited sunshine will allow us to get into the 70 mark. we'll seat temperatures come up but it will come at a cost as we head into the next couple of

hours. 54 degrees for your overnight early showers, cloudy and cool. 72, mostly cloudy skies. those spot showers will linger with the temperature going down to 54. showing 75 on wednesday with a limited sunshine. that sunshine will cook the atmosphere and brought shower, perhaps a thunderstorm. same deal for thursday. i think it is an isolated threat. we'll go 71, 87 on saturday. everything will kick offshore. we'll get the sunshine back into the weekend. the indications are sunday going no monday we had a temperature of around 90 degrees. we'll send it back out to fallston. jamie, just impressive pictures. notice all the twisting of the trees. that's a definite tornado. >> reporter: absolutely. why this part, why fallston.

on tonight's scam alert, a warning about those hotel and vacation reviews that you may be reading online. some hot spots are in hot water for writing their own and potion as tourists. joce sterman shows the red flags, so you can spot fakes. >> reporter: excellent service. before you book, you look to see what other travelers have to say. >> if i'm going to spend $3,000,

i'm going to research it. >> reporter: he goes to trip adviser and hotels.com when he plans his trips but he never believed all of them. tyler is a writer who blogs about the power of social media. in this case he said the sharing isn't always honest. >> we fall into believing things because we want to believe everything is great. >> reporter: there are red flags on certain hotels like this one saying there's reasonable cause to believe an individual has interfered with traveler reviews but there are certain techniquesy can use. as bad as it sounds, analysts say good grammar isn't good. >> people online are typing quick. >> reporter: tyler tells us the real reviews are poorly written. look at 9 -- at the dates. the hotel usually gets a review once a month but for some reason has five great ones in a day,
