everyone. it looks like bill clinton and barack obama have officially buried their hatchet. >> the bitter primary of four years ago, a distant memory, as the pair teamed up to court new york's big money donors last night. >> abc's tahman bradley joins us from washington with the latest on the race for the white house. good morning, tahman. >> reporter: good morning, paula and rob. former president bill clinton caused kwigt a stir last week when he said mitt romney had a sterling business record. not wanting anyone to be confused, the former president used tougher language when talking about romney at fund-raisers for president obama last night. president obama tapped a big democratic gun to make the case for his re-election. speaking at three new york funders, former president bill clinton was up to the catask. he said a president romney would be calamitous. >> to prevent a financial

collapse again. to begin to create jobs again. >> reporter: the appearance with clinton comes on a weak may jobs report that is shaking up the campaign. polls show the president and romney now neck and neck, with romney's favoritability rating on the rise. up 14% since february. with economic numbers showing the economy slowing down, the president is trying to convince voters romney's economic plan is the same as the policies that brought the economy to the brink. >> we're not going backwards. we're not going backwards, new york. we intend to go forward. >> reporter: romney continues to argue that president obama's policies are preventing the economy from recovering. >> he's made it harder for our economy to come back and to put people to work. >> reporter: in wisconsin today, a pivotal recall election viewed by many as a barometer of the november match-up between president obama and mitt romney. voters will decide whether to oust scott walker, who democrats say has attacked organized

labor. in the race, tom barrett has seen little backing from the democratic party or president obama. the contest polls show it's neck and neck. >> that's only the third gubernatorial recall election. a fascinating day in that state. tahman bradley, thanks for that report. jury selection is set to begin today in the case of jerry sandusky, the former penn state football coach who has been accused of molesting boys. given the extensive coverage of the case, legal experts say finding impartial jurors will be a challenge. prosecutors were so concerned, they asked for jurors to be brought in from another county. but the judge refused that request. and george zimmerman will spend the next week inside a florida jail. the judge overseeing his case is on vacation until monday. that's when defense attorneys plan that new bail be set. by now, zimmerman has raised an estimated $230,000 in donations.

back in april, though, zimmerman and his wife told the court they were broke. five tsa workers have been fired, following a significant security breach. it happened at the airport in ft. myers, florida. in addition to those who lost their jobs, 38 other workers have been suspended. an internal investigation confirmed the claims of a whistle-blower who reported that employees were not conducting some random pat-downs of passengers. and officials say they are optimistic that a drone strike in pakistan has killed a top al qaeda leader. the target was in charge of running the terror group's day-to-day operations. he was considered so dangerous there was a $1 million bounty on his head. more than a half-dozen strikes have been carried out in less than two weeks. at least three people are dead after a powerful storm ripped through southeastern missouri. it happened around 9:00 last night in the tiny town of

deihlstadt. several homes were damaged. officials say it may have been a tornado. now, we turn to the raging wildfires burning across large parts of the west. there's now 15 major fires scorching parts of 7 states. and of course, plenty of smaller ones burning, as well. the hot, mostly dry conditions across that region are giving fire crews little help. and one of the newest fires to break out is near colorado's border with wyoming. since starting yesterday afternoon, it has already burned over 200 acres. fire officials say damaged at least one structure so far. more than a dozen homes have been evacuated. and families in nearly 60eers are on alert this morning. the enormous fire in southern new mexico has scorched almost 400 square miles. the gila national man you'll has been closed to visitors. a tough time for so many folks out west. >> hope they can get relief in

the near future. it is time, now, for the weather across the nation. stormy in the northwest. high winds, hail, heavy rain and flooding around portland, boise and billings. it will be windy in california and nevada. thunderstorms from the plains into new orleans, birmingham and atlanta. scattered showers in the northeast. >> cooler than normal from boston down to baltimore. mostly 90s from miami to dallas. 80s in the nation's midsection. and around 60 degrees in the pacific northwest. britain's official celebration of queen elizabeth's 60 years on the throne is going to wrap up today. >> last night, a big party. elton john and paul mccartney were among those in front of buckingham palace. hundreds of thousands watched as a massive fireworks display wrapped up the big night. >> prince philip wasn't there. philip who turns 92 on saturday, is suffering from a bladder infection and is spending a few

welcome back, everyone. international economic problems are prompting an emergency summit today. finance ministers and central bank presidents of the world's seven wealthiest countries will participate in a conference call. although europe's problems are contributing to the economic slowdown here, economists don't think the u.s. will wind up in another recession. among the positives, they say, households owe less money. banks are more profitable. earnings are up. and even the housing market is showing signs of new life. jobs, however, remain a critical problem, possibly the result of a cooling of the global economy. overseas, tokyo's nikkei average gained 86 points today. hong kong's hang seng added 83. in london, the ftse was closed for the queen's jubilee. meanwhile, on wall street, the dow was down 17 points yesterday. the nasdaq index rose 13. numbers, they are an important part of the chinese

culture. and yesterday, on the anniversary of china's crackdown on pro-democracy demonstrators in teenmen square, an interesting thing happened. the shanghai stock exchange was 64.89. >> remarkable coincidence. let the conspiracy theories begin on that one. there is news this morning from two popular food giants. starbucks, first of all, is upgrading its pastries by buying the la boulange bakery brand. and tock coe bell says its dorito's taco is a big winner. the restaurant says it sold 100 million of them in just about 10 weeks. that's a taco-loving country we have here. >> two of my favorite things.

boston, atlanta, charlotte, new orleans, dallas, salt lake city, and seattle. and uh another star-studded court case in new orleans. kevin costner faces stephen baldwin. >> baldwin is suing costner for 21 million bucks. it comes from a dispute from the gulf oil spill a couple years ago. costner and his business partners are accused of tricking baldwin into investing in a company that sells oil-cleanup machines. both actors are expected to testify. and joran van der sloot may face trial here in the u.s. but it's not going to be for many, many years. a judge in peru has okayed van der sloot's extradition, but only after he completes a 28-year murder sentence in that country. he faces extortion and mail fraud charges in connection with the unsolved disappearance of natalie hallway.

police departments across the country are warning of a new synthetic drug called bath salts. they say taking it is like using a methamphetamine and cocaine at the same time. congress works on a permanent ban. voters in california would decide today to add a dollar tax to each pack of cigarettes. the money would go towards cancer research and anti-smoking campaigns. opponents, including big tobacco companies, have poured more than $46 million to defeat that pressure. and andrew cuomo is proposing to remove penalties for small amounts of pot. it will allow limited resources to be directed to serious crime. similar reduced penalties are on the books in more than a dozen states. one south carolina student is never going to forget her

high school graduation. her mother was hauled out of the ceremony in handcuffs for cheering too loudly when her daughter got her dip loma. parents had been warned not to cheer for the grads or they'll be thrown out. but shannon cooper couldn't help hes. and she was charged with disorderly conduct. come on. a special day was ruined in georgia. a hotel sprinkler system went off just minutes before a bride was supposed to walk down the aisle, covering her bridal party in a black, oily substance. most of the bridesmaids were taken to the hospital for breathing problems on top of that. the couple went ahead with the wedding anyway, with just two bride maids in stains dresses. the hotel, they're not saying why the sprinklers were triggered. but i smell refund and maybe a lawsuit. >> talk about a nightmare on your wedding day. now, some sports headlines and last night's playoff action. we get the highlights from espn. >> good morning. and welcome to your "sportscenter" update. i'm zubin mehenti.
