from the finish line, but look at what happens next. >> oh! >> whoa. >> they're going at speeds of more than 60 miles per hour. he loses control of the car, and flies through the air and starts rolling down this ditch into a river. there's another angle of this accident from inside the ditch. >> he barely missed those people. if they were standing just a little to their left, holy smokes. >> he would have taken them out too. >> the car is completely shattered. >> they're fine, right? >> they are fine. amazingly, they suffered only minor injuries. and they attribute this to their team that rigged the car enough to be able to protect them from such an impact. >> these rally cars are really just cages. a that body work the video, thr looks like something from a junkyard. >> it looks like a soda can that someone smashed to throw in the

recycling bin. >> and they'll probably put that all back together and have it ready for the next stage in half a night. >> which blows my mind. >> don't you feel like all of our cars should have this kind of safety mechanism in it? like, i want to be able to roll my car into a ravine and walk out and say hey, that was fun. >> that stinks, though, that to be that close to the finish line and then you wreck like that? >> so close and yet so far. you guys recognize this now world-famous video of the cannibal attack? it was caught by the security cameras at the "miami herald" the attack by 31-year-old rudy eugene on ronald pappo, a 65-year-old man. according to reports, about 80% of his face was eaten off during this attack. we have an update on this story. jackson memorial hospital, the hospital where pappo was receiving treatment was now released photos of him in his current condition.

doctors held a press conference. >> we're here to talk today about mr. ronald pappo who you have all become familiar with in the last few weeks. >> this is pappo before the attack. now, let me warn you, these photos are difficult to see. they are graphic. >> wow. >> oh, my gosh. >> where are his eye sockets? >> one of his eyes was completely gouged out. the other guy was severely damaged. they're hoping to restore vision to the other eye. surgeons are saying he will require several more surgeries in order to correct the damage that was done during this attack. >> i cannot believe that one man's mouth could do that to another man's face. >> his doctors and surgeons are saying he's been incredibly optimistic. he has been asking to listen to basketball games. he has been asking for orange juice, pizza, even italian food. and he hasn't complained of pain or any discomfort. >> this man was homeless at the

time of the attack? >> yes, that's correct. homeless for 30 years. >> are the doctors doing it for free? >> he's eligible for medicare and medicaid. they've also been raising funds and so far they have raised more than $20,000. >> right now there's nice people around him, and there's meals and there's hope. it's log, it's big, heavy, wood and dumped in an east detroit neighborhood. neighbors on an east detroit street noticed a guy come in with a flatbed truck and dump these logs in the middle of the street. the guy got in his truck and took off. the neighbors then called police and complained but he also called wxyz and their 7 action news team came out. the guy they wound up catching up with could be more offensive. >> it's illegal to leave the wood in the streets. >> you don't have to ask me, and i don't take no order from no woman, by the way.

we have the artist "right this minute" via skype from shanghai, china. how long did it take? >> it took me about a week. and i spent about 45 -- four five hours over day. >> did you plot out his face and go back and cut? >> i spent another week designing it on the computer and figuring out how to do it. i had to calculate the dimensions of each book and sort of figure out which cuts go where on each book. and i didn't want to cut out the words, as well. i wanted people to be able to perfectly read the book. >> has mark called you? does he want a picture of this for his facebook profile? >> no. i haven't heard anything from mark. that would be really awesome if he actually called me. >> well, thank you so much for talking to us and keep the videos coming and let us know when you do your next one. >> i will. thank you so much for having me.

video, an older model ford f-150 pulls up to this area, broad daylight, 4:30 in the afternoon and watch what these guys are going to do. >> they're going to clear out the patio furniture? >> yes, and five-piece wrought iron set. and what's worse, this is the front area of a funeral home. >> oh, my goodness. >> this is, in fact, the hoffman funeral home in ben salem, pennsylvania. the police originally released this video because they wanted help identifying the suspect. philadelphia police saw this footage and they were like, we know who these guys are. so they showed up at the home of 46-year-old richard smoelda. turns out the other guy is his 22-year-old roommate, daniel kroezer. >> were they trying to sell it, scrap metal? >> that's right. once the police came to their residence, they immediately took them to the place where they had the five-piece furniture set stored under a tarp. and the plan was you sell this for pennies on the dollar for scrap metal.
