on i-97. this crash happened this morning at 1:30 and abc2 news' sherrie johnson is live near the scene with all new information especially regarding the roadways. >> reporter: yes, i just touched base with maryland state police and they tell me that yes, the southbound lanes and the northbound lanes on interstate 97 have been reopened to traffic. they actually had to close them after a major accident this morning. a two car crash. it was on interstate 97 about a mile from ben field road. the ben field road exit. two people one person was killed in that crash. another person seriously injured. had to be taken to shock trauma this morning. they actually had to send in medevac. and right now, i have dawn harrison joining me live here. he was the first on the scene this morning. good morning don. tell us a little bit about what you saw. >> well, when i arrived on the scene, it was about an hour after the accident occurred. there was only fire and police personnel there. and originally both lanes were closed. the southbound and the

northbound lanes. they had just opened up the southbound lane. investigators were still working on the vehicles so the northbound lanes were closed. you'll know this was in the northbound lane about a mile shy of where benfield boulevard is. southbound traffic was moving fine and both vehicles were on the scene. and it looked like both of them had a direct head-on collision on the driver's side. one person was flown to shock traffic maw and they were not this. unfortunately the other person the body was still on the scene and ownership not sure if they were ejected from the vehicle or pulled out by fire and emergency personnel but certainly a tragic accident. we've seen that before on route 301 and route 50 we had that some time ago and we're not sure why this happened but originally police are telling us that both vehicles were in the northbound lane one of them traveling the wrong way. and ended up with a tragic accident. >> reporter: i took a look at

the video there. those cars were pretty banged up there. just a terrible accident. >> one was pronounced dead on arrival. the other one was flown to shock trauma. >> reporter: thank you so much for bringing us up to speed on that. once again state police say that one of the vehicles may have been traveling in the wrong direction. once again north and southbound lanes on interstate 97 have been reopened to traffic and right now lauren cook with a look at our own traffic. good morning. well as you mentioned interstate 97 has reopened following the deadly crash and traffic is back to normal in the area. as far as the other main lines are concerned, as we check in and take a live look at the northeast corridor of 95 and white marsh, at route 43 no problems to report whatsoever. it will be nice and clear as you do travel down to the beltway. and as we check in and take a look at some drive times if you are using the jfx to get into the city, just 11 minutes southbound from the beltway all the way downtown to east fayette street and the beltway also nice and clear. that west side if you are heading out to the outer loop

just 11 minutes to drive from 795 down towards 95. and you're looking at 11 minute stretch as well traveling the outer loop from 95 up towards 83. that's a look at your abc2 timesaver traffic. now here's lynette charles with a look at the forecast. the forecast is pretty quiet this morning especially on maryland's most powerful radar. not seeing a whole lot in terms of rainfall. and even through the day it looks like it's going to be on the quiet side. as we look at temperatures right now though, we are cool i'd say in woodbine coming in right around 60 degrees. we should be at 61 degrees now for this time of the year and pretty seasonable. 66 degrees in millersville and 60 in owings mill. we will have the winds picking up a little bit more as we go through time. what's going on once again for today. a recap. tranquil thursday and mild and comfortable and a northerly breeze. 200 years ago baltimore became a pivotal point in the war of 1812. six days it's going to be the site of the bicentennial celebration and

abc2 news megan pringle is live this morning at the inner harbor with more on the sailabration. megan? >> reporter: charlie, good morning to you. this is such a spectacular site if you're driving around here you will do a double take, i'm here with neil the commanding officer of the uss san antonio. >> good morning,. >> reporter: you said the longest time you spent on a ship was 11 months, what was that like? >> 11 months we were on deployment and for that it's just matters of routine. you know you want to get into good routine. where the crew can really understand what they're doing and what's going on. when the mission comes up or they have to flex, if they have to deviate from the routine it makes it a lot easier and they get the mission done. but i'm telling you 11 months out at sea not a lot of port visits. it can get pretty mundane but you're out there for a purpose. >> reporter: that's what williams looked into. he did a story yesterday walking around the ships to find bout what life is -- out what life is like.

>> in the year 1812, baltimore's harbor and the fort was the site of what is now naval history. the year is 2012 and baltimore again is at the center of the naval world. in june 14th through june 18th. naval vessels from around the world will be gracing our fair city. >> the sailabration is -- is really a salute to america's naval power and a commemoration of the war of 1812. and as such as part of the grand celebration all along the eastern seaboard. baltimore is host to 40 naval vessels and about ten to 15 tall ships so class as and class bs. >> among those is the tall ship from ecuador and south america. a ship built in 1977 and serves as a training vessel for sailors of the country's naval academy. >> to have 250 people and we

5:45. thanks for staying with us. the jet blue pilot who prompted a scare when he started screaming about a bomb on a plane mid-flight has apparently scarred some of the passengers who were on board. ten people are now filing a suit against the airline and against the pilot. that suit says jet blue should never have allowed that pilot to fly the plane in the first place. and the man accused of the edly shooting in auburn university is appearing in court today for the first time. desmonte leonard is facing several counts of capitol murder three to be exact. three people including two former auburn football players were killed in the shooting spree and others were injured. tour de france champ and cycling legend lance armstrong has until june 29th to respond to allegations that he was using doping to win. the u.s. antidoping agency has strong proof armstrong used drugs to get ahead in the races. the usa d. a. is also accusing

his team manager, trainer and three doctors of all being involved in the cover-up. more graphic testimony expected today in the child sex abuse trial against former penn state coach jerry sandusky. abc2 news linda so is standing by with why things could wrap up quickly on actually quicker than expected. linda? >> reporter: charlie we've learned the prosecution could wrap up its case by tomorrow. the judge says things are moving along more quickly than thought. so far five of the ten alleged victims have taken the stand. two are not expected to testify. on wednesday, the man known as alleged victim number web told jurors he was -- ten told jurors he was just 11 years old when sandusky pulled down his pants and performed oral sex on him in the basement of sandusky's home. he testified that sandusky threatened him saying he'd never see his family again if he told anyone. the coach later apologized and told him he loved him. victim number seven also took the stand and he met sandusky through his charity the second mile. he testified former coach used to slide his hand up his leg

take a look at this from indiana. the petty theft is now caught on camera and now hundreds of thousands of people are watching this little dog get its serving of leftover steaks, lynette watch this. now after failing to jump on the table -- yes, yes. that is not a camera trick. the dog pushes the chair over to the table and july u.s. up on the bar and snags its dinner. this all started when the owner noticed the food kept disappearing. she calls her shot. she's barking i'm on the bar and eating your food. that's one resourceful little pooch. >> velvet will get tips out there. i don't want that to happen. >> showing him the ways and rope . >> scoot the chair up. we don't want any of that. what's going on eight now charlie because you know we're looking pretty good in ellicott city but a few more clouds out there than we saw yesterday and goes into motion and we see this -- the sun brightening the skies a little bit. and that's what we'll see through time today. also in mount airy we see some sunshine but also those clouds out there.

and i do think that we'll see a little bit more cloud cover than the sunshine for today. now speaking of the clouds, we can see them on the satellite and radar right now but we are dry. we should stay dry through the rest of today and that's definitely some good news if you don't want to see any type of wet weather. now we slide a little bit further to the south and we're heading into the're pacific here because we have a tropical storm that formed about -- an hour or so ago. and the winds now sustained at about 40 miles an hour. it is moving to the northwest at about 9 miles an hour. and this is forecasted to strengthen as it approaches the mexican coast on friday. so it could become a hurricane so we're definitely going to keep our eyes peeled for that. but back here close to home, our weather pattern today we have an area of low pressure off into the atlantic and this is because of the storm system that passed through the area two days ago. it stalled out and this is going to kick back a few clouds into the afternoon and also the reminder of the morning.
