against him. a pa raid of character witnesses were called in quick success. so far, they said he was known for helping kids. diane perez has more on how the remaining days of testimony may play out. >> reporter: the defense's case in the jerry sandusky child sex abuse trial has been moving with lightning speed. on day two, the defense attorneys for the former penn state coach continued to call a parade of character witnesses. >> wonderful, wonderful man. and when you've known somebody for 40 years, you know them, and you don't believe what other people say. >> reporter: by the afternoon, sandusky's wife dotty had taken the stand. his attorneys made head way when they suggested that two troopers who interviewed alleged victims tainted the case by sharing details of the sex assault claims made by other accusers. still a victim advocate says that's not out of the ordinary.

checking the headlines around the nation, an armed robbery in texas was caught on surveillance. he hangs through the window and threatens employee with a gun. the worker hands over about $200, and the suspect takes off. police are looking for him tonight. an incredible story tonight out of florida. teenager was spear fishing when suddenly, the gun misfired, and 3-foot spear went right through miss skull. the accident happened earlier this month. >> about one inch above his right eye. >> doctors say the spear missed every major blood vessel and did not hit the part of the brain that controls his speech. a team of surgeons found a way to remove the spear. the teen will have some trouble using the left side of his body, but otherwise, expected to make a full recovery. one lucky teenager. we'll be right back. school is out, but that means children have no place to go during the day for some. this week, saints vincent de paul opened the summer camp, giving homeless children to have fun and keep learning during the summer. >> reporter: summer camp starts at saint vincent's, which has been giving back to the community for more than 100 years. but this camp is special. it's designed for homeless and transitional children. >> helping them to deal with the fact they're living in the shelters, i think, being able to, able to cope, being ability to come to an environment where they know hey, i have people that care about me, i have people that are like me, and people that know how to deal

with issues i'm going through. >> reporter: the children experiencing a host of issues due to circumstances. that's why the camp was so important. hoping children gain self-esteem, and volunteers come from 12 area high schools. >> their definition of hope is overexcitement, smiling, always being cheerful. >> this is 17-year-old sydney's third year volunteering. she's on her way to college in philadelphia to study. >> i enjoy seeing their faces and how happy they are. it's just really, it warms my heart to know we can make a difference in their life. >> reporter: danielle is one of the 130 kids that come to this camp daily to participate in activities that strengthen the mind, like math and reading, and also the traditional activities that children love to enjoy. danielle says the volunteers are great when it comes to learning

president obama actually got a one-up on senator marco rubio when it comes to immigration reform. the legislation that the florida republican senator had been working on overlaps the president's deportation policy when it comes to children of illegal immigrants. so now, rubio's office is saying that the president's action has made it harder to garner support in congress for a more permanent bill by november. here's marco rubio on cnbc earlier. >> my biggest concern is by doing this, this way, the president is undermined and set back the hopes of getting a long-term solution done on this issue. but i hope i'm wrong. this is an important issue that needs to be solved for the long firm. >> reporter: during the primaries, romney took a tough stabs on deportation, but now appears to be leaving the door open to rubio's still unspecified plan. i'd like to see legislation that deals with this issue, and i happen to agree with marco
