100 degrees, bge said they may have to implement a voluntary program. last year it caused some heat of its own. >> reporter: if the heat's building outside, your ac is struggling to cool you off inside and it shuts down, leaving you to sweat it out. it happened last year to almost 400,000 bge customers who were surprised by what they had signed up for. with the sun beating down and the temperature on the rise a heat advisory reminded some customers of the triple conditions last year when the utility kicked in the peak rewards program. >> i think it was a day, day and a half and it kicked back on again and it was fine. we didn't have complaints after that. >> reporter: this pays customers up to $200 to shut down their air conditioner in cycles during

on hot days like this, it really is important to rear -- remember that the scorching heat can be dangerous. never leave your pet or child in a hot car. the inside of the car can heat up to 200 degrees very quickly. more than 2345 children are killed each year after being left in hot cars according to the national highway traffic safety administration. leaving a pet or child in a hot car sill legal in our state. make a habit of looking in the back seat before walking away from the car every day f your spouse is take the child, have them call you to make sure the dropoff was okay. maybe leave your purse or briefcase in the back seat so you'll have to turn around and check it out. if you do see a child or pet locked in the car and you cannot find the driver, call police

the number of children hospitalized with high blood pressure is on the rise according to a new study. researchers found in 1997 more than 12,600 kids went to the hospital with high blood pressure. that nearly doubled by 2006. the study included all children between and 18 who were treated for hypertension regardless of the main reason they went to the hospital. researcher found those most leakily to have high blood pressure were older than nine, male and faff fa. childhood obesity may play a role in this increase. pets can make a good come pain -- companion. but they also have human benefits. roachers found those who never owned one were 40% more likely to die from a heart attack.
