hours from baltimore. but this is going to push all the heat off the coast and allow for cooler air to work in into the weekend. 79 around the 8:00 hour. noontime 91 degrees, we're on the way to 100 and we have a record we are going to try to tie if not break. it's a 1900s records. we'll talk more about the forecast and maybe some severe weather in the mix for tomorrow afternoon. that's coming up in just a little bit. now a check on traffic with lauren. if you are using the jfx no problems to report. 11 minute ride from the beltwa to east fayette street downtown. 95 no problems on the south side. it will be nice and clear from interstate 195 up to the beltway. no problems in the white marsh ride with a now minute trip from the beltway to route 123. no problems to report here if we can pull up the camera of

the beltway. if you are going to the beltway just 11 minutes ride to 83. traveling from 795 down to 95 also 11 minute ride there. and we are continuing to cover what will be a major traffic alert this summer. traffic is now underway -- excuse me, construction is now underway on 895. so drivers will want to expect a major backup all summer long and abc2 news linda so is in south baltimore this morning with what you can expect. >> reporter: good morning, well, construction began at 9:00 last night. what right now is 895 right before the harbor tunnel. things right now are running smoothly and about 15 minutes ago we saw more construction crews arrive on the scene. they tell us just beyond this tunnel and this whole plaza is where the construction is going on. lanes are one lane in the southbound direction. right now because it's still early not seeing any backups

through the tunnel but that could change as the day wears on. crews are resurfacing the steel bridge just south of the harbor tunnel. one northbound lane will be closed for the next eight weeks and in august it will get worse. one lane in each direction is shut down. you should expect major backups both ways. the best bet this morning if you have to use 895 avoid the harbor tunnel. instead you can take care 695 in the key bridge or 95 and the fort mchenry tunnel. right now things are running smoothly. but as this morning rush goes on things could be backing up but we're told construction crews are just beyond the tunnel and beyond the toll plaza. they have the lanes narrowed down to one lane. we're live at harbor tunnel, linda so, abc2 news. news time right now 4:34. today clarks are expected in the -- closing arguments are expected in the sexual abuse trial of jerry sandusky. trial will convene this morning. the defense and prosecution

called more than 20 witnesses to the stand this week. prosecutors called sandusky a serial predator. meanwhile sandusky's attorneys say police targeted their client. sandusky didn't testify in his own trial. another high-profile case going to be a top story on abc tomorrow. an interview with john edwards' former mistress rielle hunter. that will be airing tomorrow night. hunter is also the mother of edwards' 4-year-old son and speak on abc beginning at 10:00. well, new this morning local lawmakers are sounding off on the step by the house oversight committee to hold attorney commercial eric tolder in con -- general eric holder in contempt. for failing to turn over subpoenaed documents related to that botched fast and furious weapons sting operation. as a result of that program, more than 1,000 weapons were lost in mexico and may have ended up in the hands of drug cartel members. he will be the first attorney general ever to be found in contempt of congress if cited.

>> we do have to respect the separation of powers here so you know this whole idea -- what's he hiding? i don't think he's hiding a damn thing. >> the full house is expected to consider that recommendation for holding him in contempt. that vote is going to be next week. it was a packed house at the senior center last night. more than 100 korean business owners met with the health department. now proposing 128 liquor stores in the city be closed to cut down on criminal activity. they hope to accomplish that by changing the zoning laws to get rid of stores that were allowed to stay in neighborhoods back in the 1970s. about 90% of the liquor stores in the city are owned by koreans they say their community is being unfairly targeted. megan. pge's program will kick in sooner rather than later, this year they're hoping not to take as much heat. the program pays customers $200 to shut their air conditioners

in cycles during peak usage times. last year customers got little notice and they weren't happy about it. this year the company sent out letters and will use calls when they anticipate a shutdown. today if you're looking to beat the heat. 11 city cooling centers will be open. they are air conditioned and they offer free water. if you live in the city you can always call 311 anytime to find out where the closest cooling center is to you. and if you're looking to cool off in the city you're going to have to wait a few more days. the public city pools are scheduled to be open on the 23rd. the only facility now is the meadow brook swim club in north baltimore. this morning my calls from the trayvon martin shooting now being made public. >> hear what the teen's father told dispatchers after realizing his son was missing. >> if you have to take your baby outside today. some safety tips you need to keep in mind. what you need to know just ahead. >> no delays on 695 at harford

welsh on a day lake -- well, on a day like today and all summer long, abc2 news is going to be working with you to stay stay. because it's so hot out and an important alert for moms and dads. >> you know how hot your car can get but do you know how fast ha this happens? a matter of minutes temperatures can rise 20 degrees for kids. the temperatures they warm five times faster for children than for adults. >> here's the excuses most often heard. more than half of the people say that the child was forgotten by a caregiver 30% say the child was playing alone in the car and this is hard to believe. 17% of people intentionally

left their child in a hot car. that's hard to believe. time now for a check of the forecast. mike masco is in for lynette this weekend and she left you with the bag once again weather- wise going to try to get you outside on "good morning maryland." >> we'll blame it on the heat right now. 76 in town. man just a stuffy morning. keep in mind we should be around 64 degrees and 76 we know we'll be into the 90s rapidly. we're measuring the dew points in the atmosphere. with the dew point 68-degree dew point combined together it's feeling like it's into the 80s and feeling like it's 84 right now in d.c.. take a look at the satellite and radar picture again, it's clear overhead but to the west showers and storms over the northern plains. this slides to the east and we will be talking about showers and gusty thunderstorms in the forecast going into tomorrow. so here's your planner 79 degrees to 91 around the lunchtime hour. we're going to hit 100 today i think a lot of areas will hit 100 but the real feel temperature of 105.

the 911 call for the reporting of his missing son was just made public. by the time the call was made trayvon martin's body was recovered from the scene of the shooting but he had yet to be identified. george zimmerman was charged with second degree murder in the teen's death. and zimmerman is claiming self- defense and as of yesterday the florida police chief has been fired at the center of the probe. more on this this morning at 5:00. and an investigation is underway following a four alarm fire that happened inside san francisco's historic pier 29. more than 100 firefighters battled the flames yesterday afternoon. no reports of anyone getting hurt. officials believe the fire started on the second floor of the building was being renovated for the 2013 american cup. well, sit one of the first things you pack before grabbing your kids and going to the beach. a bottle of sunscreen always needed and in a few weeks you will be seeing important changes to the labels. the words broad spectrum added to the bottles. it means coverage of all rays including uva and uvb. one type of light burns, the

the eat and humid -- all the heat and humidity offshore. but a day today where we see 100 degrees with the real feel temperatures like 105 to 110. again heat is on through the midwest but then cooler air to the northern plains and 40s and 50s. that's going to be in our area as we head into the weekend. so some cooler drier air certainly -- starts to come back into play. so 100 degrees today. hot and humid. isolated chance of a shower or thunderstorm again it looks like far western zones over frederick county, carroll county, you could see a couple of the scattered showers or perhaps a thunderstorm. 74 for tonight. and then for tomorrow 93 degrees and we'll see some gusty showers and thunderstorms could be a few severe weather events across the area. 90 on saturday and cooler and drier into the weekend. a check on traffic hey lauren. good morning mike. well, the construction has begun on 895 but no delays as of yet at the harbor tunnel. that will change this morning. stick with the fort mchenry tunnel or the key bridge as the
