area. so the whole side of the country is not experiencing what we are today. >> on one side of the room they control the actual transmission of power. on other they keep tabs which includes responding to outages. they don't anticipate problems with power. it's because there's ample supply to met that load but that doesn't mean you waste power. >> what customers can do today is what they would could to -- do to control the seize of your bill, shifting the usage away from the peak our and shifting away from appliances that generate heat. for example, today would be a good day not to cook a ham in the oven. it's just going to heat up your house and your air conditioner will work twice as hard. >> it will cycle through the peak rewards program to keep

smeght was arrested when he walked into good samaritan hospital with a gunshot wound to his cheek. last tuesday police were called to moped circle and found the man shot. the family of a young man killed at the hands of an off duty police officer will spend the weekend bur rig their teen. that will happen tomorrow and saturday but tonight cress fer brown will have a vigil. what the mother has to say. >> reporter: kelly, chris brown is patiently waiting to hear from baltimore county authorities. she believes that off duty officer killed her son in a fit of rage and wants to see him charged for it. today ames interview was not about -- today's interview was

after seven days of often graphic testimony, the case is now in the hands of the jury. jamie costello joins us with more. >> reporter: the jury is deciding if jerry sandusky is guilty or not. nine have some connection to penn state. another is a penn state football season ticket holder. two more charges were dropped by the judge. jerry sandusky did not take the stand. his attorneys cannot tell us why his client did not testify but abc2 news learned that decision was made during a court break just before testimony was to end. sandusky pushed hard to take the stand but was convinced otherwise by his defense team.

17-year-old martin who was the aggressor who started the confrontation. >> he said, yo, you got a problem? >> where was he? >> about there but walking toward me. >> reporter: zimmerman said he tried to reach for his cell phone and martin came after him. >> he punched me in the faissments i stumbled. i fell down. he pushed me down. somehow he got on top of me. >> reporter: zimmerman said he felt mar ten was winning the struggle and that's when the teenager saw his gun. >> he said you're going to die tonight. i felt his arm going down to my side. i grabbed my firearm and shot him. >> reporter: zimmerman's statements were consistent but the lead investigator was sceptical, asking for charges to be filed. >> reporter: martin's family

said taking into account all of zimmerman's statements and evidence, it's clear to them why he was charged with second-degree murder. well, back to the heat now, not just here but across the country. every state in the lower 48 except north dakota is forecast for 90 degrees. people all over are seeking relief in the shade and staying in the water. but as it gets hot, i guess things really could be worse, right? so we have to say that the heat is no laughing matter except when you look back at sunday night when our very own meteorologist mike masco thought we would be hitting some out of the world record temperatures. >> take a look at the forecast for tomorrow. temperatures will be into the 70s, not 775 degrees. that's a really hot day.

all of central maryland. well up into the mid-100's. 101 so far at the airport. 98. if you're asking, hey, was this a record breaker? no. we hit 99 so far at bwi. the old record 100. so one degree off. look at the hot seering sunshine across the board. frederick a hot spot. hagerstown, always a hot spot. steamy skies over the key bring as we take a look toward curtis bay and hawkins point. damascus with the hot sun rising and the temperatures shooting up. you see the fair weather clouds. we think those could be storm clouds. right now it's pretty quiet. we've got a couple of storms

firing up south into harrisburg, virginia, south into staunton. this is some prefrontal storm action. high temperatures have been, again, in the upper 90s. 98 in baltimore. ocean city not so cool. atlantic city not soo cool at 95. mid-commitmid--- mid-60s. anything over 60 gets to be very uncomfortable. look at these heat indexes, feeling like 105, 109. a couple of storms west now but the main storm system is yet to push. we seat storms lining up over the southern part of michigan reaching down into northern arkansas, southern missouri. that is our next weather maker.

although it may bring gusty storms, those will be welcome because the cooler air behind this thing is really going to get us back to more normal weather. hard to believe the summer just started officially. chance of a pop-up shower or storm as we go through 2:00. you'll see them pop-up. anything after 2:00. now once we get into the evening hours that's when we could see more widely scattered showers. weather looking nice. tropical storm chris was a hurricane. look at that rotation. it's sitting in the north atlantic. not a lot of warm water to work with. just interesting to point out. overnight 75, steam bath city. that's the story tomorrow, 93, not quite as hot, some late day scattered storms and then an evening shower or storm. as we look ahead, temperatures

will rise to 93 tomorrow before that front pushes. storms tomorrow evening. we drop temperatures back down into the 80s sunday monday into tuesday. it will be nice to feel that cool relief next week. i think we've got mike masco standing by. how does it feel? >> it feels like 1,000 degrees. loment is high. we have that weather bug. 96 degrees outside our studio. we're still in the heating of the day. we want to hold off on exercising for the next couple of hours until we lose that full heating of the day. yes. it's a steam bath city. you said the humidity is going to break up some, which is good enough for me. you can feel it, very nasty out
