how the city will spend 2.3 billion dollars in the next fiscal year. president jack young lead the charge against the cuts but was not successful. several council who supported the plan changed the vote after the mayor said even if other cuts were made the money couldn't save the fire companies. if final approval is given the. [audio not understandable] some folks are not giving up without a fight. some council members say they are hoping to make some last- minute changes to the budget. sherrie johnson, abc2 news. we have new video an suv smashed into a home sending several children to the hospital. it happened friday outside washington. police say five kid and two adults were in the suv when it crashed. the children's conditions range from serious to critical. no word on what caused the accident. so far, no charges have been filed. the victim of a shooting in

northeast baltimore died on sunday just before 8:00 in the evening. the man was shot multiple times in the head in the 1,000 block of central avenue. police are look for a black lexus that was seen leaving the scene. and montgomery county five people were injured after a crash between a van and motorcycle in germantown after # in the afternoon. police say one person suffered life-threatening injuries and four others were injured, too. police are investigating what started the crash. today a military judge will hear a motion hearing in the trial of bradley man hog will appear before a judge. we will have more on abc2 news and abc2news.com. he confessed to murdering a boy. the country has been look for the boy for more than 30 years. pedro hernandez will be be in court. said he strangled etan patz who disappeared on his way to school in 1979 setting off a

now "good morning maryland." 5:39 a couple odd legal stories this morning. utah woman filed a complaint against a juvenile court judge after he told that mom he reduced her 13-year-old daughtersentence if she cut off her ponytail in court. the daughter and a friend were sent to court after cutting off the hair of a 3-year-old girl in march. and harassing another girl by telephone. the girls were previously ordered to serve 30 days in detention and perform 275 hours of community service. a 45-year-old new jersey woman is suing a 13-year-old boy claiming he intentionally hit her with a baseball game. he was warming up a pitcher in

big decision he's made heading into the time trials. linda. >> reporter: yeah, phelps decided he will go for the 400 meter individual medley a grueling event he holds the records for. preliminary start at len this morning in omaha nebraska. this will be his final olympic trials. phelps will retire after the london games. we learned he will swim in 6 or 7 events. when he hits the pool later this morning to vie for a spot on the u.s. olympic team he will face his rival. phelps says he is ready for the big match but they are keeping the rivalry friendly knees human and not a fish or anything like that he's just like all of us and trained really hard to get there. >> he's been lighting up the last couple years in the swimming world and i think people are strike to -- trying to catch him. >> reporter: phelps shaved his mustache in preparation for the trials. the olympics in london starts on july 27th. linda so, abc2 news.

recovering. tomorrow, we will have new home price index reports and wednesday a new home sales report that is going to be due out for the month of may. mortgage rates are at historic lows making it a good time to buy. the problem is stricter lending standards makes it harder if you want to qualify for a mortgage so it's there for you if you qualify to get it. a recall for the chevy cruz owners. gm wants to mod fight a shield design to protect the engine because the company has learned that the shield in place could create a fire hazard. gm dealers will also inspect wells in the rear compartment to ensure they are properly applied. the recalls involve all cruz built in the united states from september 2010 through may 2012. the recall is after an investigation by the national highway traffic safety administration for the compart fires in 2011. there are no known crashes, injuries or fatalities related to either recall in the case. tomorrow the consumer

weather. light ening this morning. >> -- lightning this morning. >> we did have some thunderstorms there's another round dropping in from pennsylvania. we will see how it acts and more popup thunderstorms. before we talk about that, let's go to bel air. we haven't been outside all morning and we like to see the beautiful sunrise coming up in bel air. the live weather bug camera there and going and sliding into laurel more of the same a little brightening of the skies and a little bit of cloud cover out there as well. that will be the scenario for the day. right now, temperatures coming in at 69 degrues in reisterstown and 72 in -- degrees in reisterstown. 72 in arnold. middletown and good morning edgewood. you are at 73 as well. so, here's the satellite and radar and this is what i was talking about the cluster of showers and storms pushing off towards the south and east and some of those could make their way into our area this morning. and then if it doesn't show we will have more going into the afternoon. be prepared for that. with that, the storm prediction center has us in a slight risk for severe weather.

the biggest threat would be damaging winds and also large hail. and you can see it for the areas here shaded in the yellow coloring. we will keep you update on that information. looking at the weather pattern, we are waiting for the cold front to traverse the area and will do so through the morning and afternoon. but we are looking at tropical storm debby and keeping our eye on the tropic as we have the winds sustained at 50 miles an hour on tropical storm debby. and it's not moving anywhere. it's stationary and that's why it's been dumping plenty of rain across portions of florida right now. and the track takes it around the area so they will get uninundated by rainfall. future trend picking up on rainfall. high pressure heading moo tomorrow and wednesday bringing us drier air in across the area and also cooler air before we warm back up. today i am going right around 84 degrees and it's going to be a little on breezy side. let's check the abc time savor

traffic with lauren cook. >> reporter: if you are using 95, no delays in the white marsh area. looking at the typical 15 minute ride from the beltway to downtown baltimore. once you get into the city watch out for all the construction on 895 south of the harbor tunnel. you will want to stick with the fort mchenry or key bridge especially later this morning when traffic is going to start to pick up. heading out to 83 in cockeysville at shawan road not too many cars yet. a nice easy ride making the drive towards 695 and a live look at beltway in the overly area bel air road. 11 minute on the outer loop from 95 up to 83. and the west side of 695 will remain clear as you travel that outer loop from 795 down towards 95. that stretch is going to take you len minutes as well. that's a look -- 11 minutes as well. now over to you. stop congress from making cuts. >> that's what postal workers and law makers are hoping to accomplish. they are joining together so they hope they will be heard.
