watch in effect so that's around baltimore county this morning. let's go to maryland's most powerful radar and you can see the thunderstorms bearing down across the area around harford county. we will talk about this coming and also the extreme heat. right now let's check the abc2timesaver traffic. >> reporter: in addition to the severe weather, we are dealing with a two alarm house fire in southwest baltimore. it continues to shut down sponson street and sherie scone -- sherrie johnson will bring you an update. live look at 395, you will notice absolutely nothing to get in your way if you are traveling through the fort mchenry tunnel the it will take 8 minutes traveling northbound from the beltway to the toll plaza and as we check in and look at some other drive times, no delays on the beltway. it will be nice and clear. 12 minutes traveling the outer loop from 795 towards 95. and the jfx also clear. megan. >> thanks so much.

we have breaking news to tell you about this morning out of southwest baltimore where crews are on the scene fighting a fire at a row home. this is happening on spoonson street. it happened -- sponson street. sherrieionson is live -- shall sherrie johnson is live with more. we talked to you a little time ago. what new information do you have and what's the situation you are seeing. >> reporter: we just left the scene and we are headed back to the station now. we will have all new video coming up at the top of the 6:00 hour. a hectic scene in southwest baltimore at this early morning fire. call came in around 3:50 this morning. a home at 1916sponson street was engulfed in flames when crews arrived on the scene. the 2 1/2 story home was vacant and we know that the home was up for sale. the house next door received exterior damage to the vinyl siding. there were no injuries in the fire. neighbors actually were evacuated for their safety and they have returned to their

homes. crews are putting out the hot spots. they were able to extinguish the fire and they are working on the hot spots and basically the cleanup. no word on what caused this fire but crews are investigating. back you to in the studio. >> we will look forward to more reports. in order to beat the heat because the heat is a big story today, cooling centers across the state are going to be opened offering air conditioned rooms and bottled water. if you want to find out where the closest one is in your area a. list is on abc2news.com. there's -- go to the weather guide and everything is posted online. keeping the heat in mind city pools plan to operate on extended hours this weekend. baltimore county recreation parks and aquatic centers will be opened with extra hours beginning today. park pools will be opened from noon until 8 p.m. this evening. and walk to the pool will be opened that's happening at 6 p.m.

going on because we have some thunderstorms popping up across the area. and this one thunderstorm over betterton chestertown and it's sliding towards millington and churchill, you are going to get beared down on a in a matter of the moments -- down on in a matter of moments. gusty damaging winds in excess of 60 miles an hour and it's pushing off to the southeast at 45 miles an hour. that is what we are contending with for this morning. also what we are contending with, well, we have the cloud cover behind it. but, the good news is that things are starting to push off move out and there's nothing really behind that. so we will get sunshine in here as we head throughout the day. if you like the sunshine, you know what that means, that means the temperatures are going to soar. before we get to the temperatures let's talk about outside andn bel air where we are -- in bel air where we are talking about the weather bug. lightning popped up earlier today. lots of lightning. the roadways are still on the wet side.
