a couple of issues to talk about. we will talk about the west side of the city. numerous reports of lights out. if you come to a flashing dead light, remember, treat it as a 4-way stop. we are watching an accident. this is something we have been watching for the last hour and a half. an accident on 95 northbound, fort mc henry tunnel. right knocked out. alternative route is harbor tunnel. let's look, 695, bel air, smooth sailing. keep in mind we have debris from the friday storms, last night's storms. back out live to megan pringle in towson, one of the hardest hit areas k one of the areas where tens of thousands of people remain without power. trees are down, and the big clean up is underway.

>> reporter: hundreds of thousands of people across the state are without power. this yeah has been hit particular hi hard. i will show you why. if you look behind me, a tree fell over, not only did it fall over but fell over on power lines. ist a dangerous situation here. that's why the road is blocked off. earlier, this is a well traveled road, people who aren't aware that it's closed are having to turn around. i ran in to the painters, they go on a morning walk. >> we have flash flashlights and we are coping. >> reporter: it's monday. >> we have been going to movies and eating out a lot so go to bed as late as we can. get up with the daylight, go to bed with the daylight. >> it's too dark to do anything. we go to the movie, have dipper

attitude. a good movie review. charlie, i guess you have to do what you got to do when you are in a situation like this, you make the best of it. >> sound like what a lot of people are doing, making the best of a bad situation. for one family, this morning, arundel, they are mourning the loss of their son. a result of the fees weekend storms. linda so is here to explain what happened that took this young 25 year old's life. the family believes their son was trying to make it home when a tree crushed his car and killed him instantly. 25 year old kevin o'brian was on the road when winds reached 70 miles per hour. the family knew something was wrong when he didn't respond to calls or text messages and a family friend told the family what happened. two other people were with o'brian in the car. miller miller and hodges were

not seriously hurt. >> we had to come back and go to the county police station to try to find out if our son was alive or not. that's when we were notified he lost his life due to the storm. >> the family says they feel fortunate both their children were not in the car. his younger sister was with him hours before the accident. linda so, abc2 news. news around the nation, chris christie snapped at a reporter during a press conference. the reporters were told the governor would only answer questions about the major problem at a water treatment plant. one reporter asked an un related question involving the state legislator. listen to the governor's response. can i stay on topic? are you stupid? on topic. on topic, next question.

up to the minute updates on what is going on with restoring power. >> 60% of our customers who have been affected are restored. 405,000 customers are back in power. 235,000 customers that are out. we do have additional 1200 out of state utility workers here or joining us today. 1400bge employees. >> where did they come from? >> all over the country and quebec canada, florida, michigan, tennessee, texas, all over. >> in the coming days, martin o'malley said get this down and get it done quickly.

we begin your monday with a check of the fork with mike massco. >> starting with a beautiful shot downtown, its hard to believe we had the storms from last night as we are seeing sunshine trying to filter through building. sunshine will go to work. temperatures in to the 90s today. spotty showers south of town, another shower making your way towards the eastern shore. 72 now. we are on our way to 93 this afternoon. temperature from 775 to 86, lunchtime hour and 93. lower humidity today. but the humidity will be rising over the next couple of days. we will talk about that in the seven-day forecast in a little bit. let's get a check on traffic at 6:46 right now. we are talking about fist the west side of the city. section dealing with a lot of

traffic lights out. certainly use caution. treat dead traffic light as a four-way stop as we are watching issues with that this morning. debris in the roadway. take it slow. we have an issue going on on going at 95 northbound, at fort mc henry tunnel. we have the right lane tied up or right tube tied up, your alternate is the harbor tunnel. from 95 northbound in to the fort mc henry tunnel. use harbor tunnel because of an earlier accident. 695, bel air road, so far looking good. smooth sailing on bel air. speeds up to 65 plus miles per hour. again, only issue being 95 northbound at the fort mc henry tunnel.

. the totals stand at 200,000 customers with power outages. megan pringle is live in towson. one of the areas hardest hit. clean sup going slowly. >> reporter: it's going slowly. it's generally a quiet neighborhood. if you talk to frustrated neighbors they will say it's been anything but because cars have been turning around because the road is blocked up. crews are working to clean up the damage. see the tape is up. the reason why, the tree fell over on to power lines. it's not only a driving hazard, it's also dangerous. i want to bring ronnie oliver here, he has been here for 12 hours, telling people you can't drive down the road. people are getting frustrated. >> yes, ma'am. the roads are dangerous. you have seen bge crews.

>> they came out at 2:00 in the morning. by 12:00, they will be back out the fix it. >> reporter: you have no power. have no power yet. >> reporter: that's got to be a hassle. >> yes it is. >> reporter: you are handling it well. >> i feel pretty good so far. >> reporter: i hope you get the power back soon. hope you get a break from working. people are handling the best they can. hundreds of thousands of people are without power, bge says they are doing all they can. that's the situation. a lot of people have clean up to do. anywhere you look, there are downed trees and power lines. a lot of people will be cleaning today and one of the stories is going to be the heat. it is expected to be hot. we will send it over to sherrie johnson. >> we just received updated information from baltimore city mayor, stephanie rawlings blake's office, the heat alert

has been extended through tuesday because of dangers from hot temperatures. today, at 10:00 this morning, ice will be passed out to people at four locations, the community action program will operate five centers around the city, open from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. cool air and free water. the health department's office of aging and care services will operate six additional cooling centers and the health department recommends that you remember to drink water or juice, avoid alcohol and caffeine and wear light colored clothing. 25 people have utilized the five cooling community rooms are open as cooling centers as well. local pet stores like pet smart and animal control centers offered facilities to help pets. call 311 to report downed trees in the roadways and call 911

leadership positions in virginia. new program teaming up with maryland inmates with a guide dog group to have inmates trained service togs for veterans. the dogs would go to wounded and disabled vets. the leaders are going to be announcing the program today. they will do it in hagerstown. family and friends of chris brown will rally in his honor. he had a run in with a off duty police officer. his mother is organizing a rally in front of the state's attorneys office and calling for an external investigation. the officer was arrested last week and released afterwards. getting new reaction from the governor, martin o'malley over the health care ruling, o'malley says the tax increase would effect a few number of us all together. >> the massive tax increase they are talking about is the free loader penalty, affecting
