south. 80 in town right now. look at the eastern shore numbers into the 80s. that's a very, very sticky start and we're going to be talking about the heat indices rising through the course of the afternoon. heat advisory for much of the 95 corridor as the daytime highs returning around 98 degrees will feel like it's between 100 to 105. 98 again real feel numbers will be into the triple digits. there's a chance for some showers and storms by tonight and we'll talk about that coming up in just a little bit. now a check of the abc2 timesaver traffic this morning with a very quiet start to your thursday morning. no major traffic incidents issues to talk about. and we do want to remind you again still self-traffic lights- out throughout the city and as always if you come to one of those treat it as a fourway stop and use caution. otherwise the commute and major highways looking good right now. a live look outside. 695 at harford road looking

good smooth sailing. 952083 just about 11 minute commute. 795 to 95 also 11 minute commute and smooth sailing into the fort mchenry tunnel just about eight minutes from 695. another check on traffic and weather together coming up in just a little bit. charlie over to you. as mike just said consider yourself warned. arm yourself with sunscreen and sunglasses today. with temperatures projected as high as 100 degrees the health department has issued a code red heat alert for today. that means that the heat and humidity will be high enough to cause heatstroke and heat exhaustion. and because of the dangerous temperatures cooling centers will be open once again much as they have been the entire week. yesterday -- entire week. yesterday abc2 news caught up with the people at the northern community center on york road. it's providing air-conditioning and cold water but some people aren't using the centers as they were expected. >> it seems to me that residents utilize the cooling centers as an opportunity to get out of the heat for a short

period. people seem to think they're like shelters which isn't the case. >> head to the website abc2news.com to find cooling centers near you for a list of locations and proper addresses. two 2 alarm fires broke out last night. the first fire broke out in a home on roberts street in west baltimore around 11:30. the second fire a blaze started at the ambassador theater on liberty heights avenue around midnight. investigators aren't sure what caused the fire here at the ambassador. the theater has not been a movie theater since 1968 and served in recent years as a church. we have new information and video for you this morning of a drowning in anne arundel county as a pool there. it happened at brooklyn park just before 10:00 p.m. wednesday night. here with the latest is sherrie johnson from abc2 news. >> reporter: charlie i just got off the phone with police and we have confirmed that a 4-year-

old child drowned at a pool at a home in anne arundel county. we have all new video of the scene. police tell us the home was found unresponsive at 601 old riverside road. the call came in 10:00 last night. the child was taken to the hospital with serious and life- threatening injuries. now police are still investigating this case. officers spent most of the night scouring the area trying to figure out exactly what happened. and we'll continue to check in with officers throughout the morning to gather the latest information on this case. once again, we have confirmed that a 4-year-old child has drowned at a pool at a home in brock lynn park in anne arundel county. sherrie johnson, abc2 news. news time now is 4:34 and in the city police are preparing to press charges against an alleged drug dealer after bust at his home. charles wilson. this happened tuesday at southwest baltimore. police say traffic stop and the word on the street helped them track down wilson. he's been charged with weapon

possession and trafficking. this is what officers found in wilson's home. take a look at this. more than $11,000 in cash, a police radio scanner, a police raid jacket and a number of weapons, three dirt bikes and of course they found the drugs. in anne arundel county now where police have four men who were trying to rob a convenience store. they got into a fight amongst the four of them and this happened monday morning just before 4:00 a.m. at the royal farms off the oak manor drive in glen burnie. one suspect tried to pull the clerk outside to rob the store and he got free and the clerk along with other people they locked the men outside. that's when the fight started -- broke out between the guys and they have all been charged with robbery, theft as well as a number of other offenses. well just five weeks after her son was killed in a hit and run accident in ocean city. cecilia row can now forgive. her son was matthew cheswick from howard county. police say diogo facchini hit cheswick on the coastal highway

at ocean city during the memorial day weekend. documents have since shown that fa chi knee blew a .27 on the alcohol screen. that's three times the legal limit. he has a september 13th trial. >> i do forgive him but i don't want him to do this again. i want him to change his life and help others and turn his life around and do good. >> there's a fund in matthew's name with enough money being raised to buy a memorial bench. for more information on how to donate head to the website. abc2news.com. you can find it under the investigators section. well, power outages have been a big story in the past week but a recent outage made some pretty unhappy. where these metro riders ended up walking along the track and why some people were worried about their own safety. >> also the cockeysville water main has been fixed but it could be causing you delays

news time 4:44. and five things to know on this thursday morning. president barack obama kicking off his first campaign bus tour today. his first official campaign tour. he's visiting the rust belt states of pennsylvania and ohio both critical swing states for the 2012 presidential election. 16 schools in baltimore county are closed today while crews continue restoring power. staffs are affected by the schools and will continue reporting to alternate sites. not yet clear when the power will be turned back on. summer school begins on monday. and a florida judge is expected to rule today on whether george zimmerman will be granted a bond for the second time. his attorney has asked the judge to release his client on the original $150,000 bond. the judge sent him back to jail after he failed to disclose his full finances. nasa is launching a rocket

today to study the magnetic fields around the sun. that's how the sun creates solar flares and we show you those on "good morning maryland" all the time. scientists will continue using that collection by the rocket to make instruments to help predict space weather more efficiently. and a new round of apple rumors suggests smaller ipads could be the thing of the future. the talk of the 7 to 8-inch version of the ipad comes a week after google announced plans for their nexus 7 one of the smaller tablets and as a reminder to that. google and apple they have been some water and legal troubles over the rights and copyright infringements on the tablets. this has nothing to do with the weather but i saw you using the ipad with traffic. >> i love that and you can get that for the ipad. you can get that -- i think no not the kindle. i was going to go kindle but no. not kindle yet. >> not yet. >> not yet we're working on it though. >> would you buy a smaller ipad? >> no, i like the big thing. i always buy -- i have the android over the iphone because it's a bigger screen. >> right. >> all right? that's just how i feel. that's a personal -- >> and you can get the abc2

we lowered friday raised sat -- and raised saturday. then trend to cooler drier air next week and i think less in the way of humidity for tuesday and wednesday. temperatures into the 80s. there is a risk of some storms and talk more about that in a little bit. >> 80s? >> upper 80s. >> i believe that when i see it. thanks mike. today the maryland public service commission will hear statements related tot storm and answer -- to the storm and answer questions about the outages. this will be taking place at 11:00 this morning at the psc headquarters. talking about underground utility lines and also talking about the overall cost of the storm. they say they will not discuss the opinions about how each utility responded to those outages and many of you complaining not enough was done in enough time. well, a bit more than ten minutes crews will begin restoring power once again and they're going to the staging area at bwi airport to begin the workday getting that power back on for you and me. crews are working about 12 to

16 hour shifts and how many people remain in the dark this morning? according to bge about 57,000. they are still without power. and much need air-conditioning. most of the people are in baltimore city and in baltimore county. they are the biggest numbers without the power this morning. our outage in d.c. left some riders hiking. take a look at the i video coming in. the green line train lost power monday after waiting in a hot car for another train to come rescue them for about 30 minutes the driver told passengers the rescue train lost power too. that's when people got out of the cars and started walking in the 90-degree heat. the passengers walking to the college park station and people there were concerned that the pregnant and elderly passengers they may be at risk but everyone arrived safely hat college park station. meanwhile in joplin and tuscaloosa some of them are getting new homes. nine homes will be unveiled tomorrow and five in joplin, missouri and four in

tuscaloosa, alabama. you'll recall both of those cities affected by major tornadoes last year. news around the nation at least three florida lifeguards are now looking for new jobs after rescuing a drowning man. one of those lifeguards thomas lopez left his designated area monday saving a man in an area that guards say aren't protected. he was fired on the spot for going outside his zone to save someone's life and immediately let go from the job. >> not going put any job over -- my job over going to help someone again. i'm going to do what i felt was right and i did. >> if i see anyone drowning regardless of where they are i'm going to save them because i'm a lifeguard and even as a human i'm going to save someone if i see they need help. on facebook this morning and even overnight many of you weighing in. >> other lifeguards they have quit as a show of solidarity to their friends. the company says the policy is to call 911 the someone is drowning outside the restricted

or guarded zones. those people trained to protect you? don't do your job. et didn't stop those in care mel,nd inn for enjoying their fourth of july parade but the heat slowed down many of the band members in the parade even as they worked to stay hydrated. several overcome by the heat with at least 16 being take on the area hospitals and many more were taken to city cooling centers. imagine a cookout you can have with this grill. yes, an 18 wheeler. this is the world's largest smoker and grill stopped by in texas for the fourth of july holiday. the history channel. the owner of the grill was a former big rig driver and people were able to take that rig and the truck is loaded with charcoal and wood. that my friend -- that's fantastic. is a smoker. let me tell you something. something about the open flame and raw meat. grills. >> how -- think about the burgerric make out of that --

that's trying to organize over the northern tier of the lakes and if this slides towards the south we'll address the idea of more showers perhaps a gusty thunderstorm as we go into tonight. look at the temperatures this afternoon into the 100s from st. louis, memphis 103. 90s up and down the eastern third and as we move the timeline into the tomorrow, more brutal heat coming east with 102, 103 charlotte. look at st. louis 109. jeez. 99 today. that's your two degree guarantee. hot and humid. there's an isolated storm chance mostly towards the evening and then again tonight 77 muggy and warm. here's the seven day forecast. it's going to get brutally hot only saturday. that's actually going to be the peak of the heat. and then we're going to start to watch our temperatures go down. 95 by sunday. into the 80s hopefully as wed into early next week. now a check of the abc2 timesaver traffic this morning. still pretty quiet commute. expect though some delays on each side of york road between
