we have all new reaction and video on the overnight fire at the ambassador theatre and northwest baltimore. more on that story coming up. and life star you know they save lives now now some losing their jobs for doing their job. outrage this morning as you weigh in overnight on the abc2 facebook fan page. and tropical storm debby hit late last month. it's affecting people in one northern georgia community. that's all ahead on july 5th. i'm charlie crowson, megan is on assignment checking out the poweroutages in baltimore county and we have to get the power back on to salespeople. >> some of the facebook fans saying they're getting the power back on which is the good news but again we have to get the power back on because sad is going to be the worst. 101 degrees, we don't have good news in the weather department unfortunately. manchester we go. good morning mavericks getting ready to start the football season. july 16th. so unfortunately it's very hot

for them. it's 83 downtown right now. look at dover at 80. georgetown 82 degrees so we are starting out very mild. you notice the clouds pushing off towards the south and east. big thunderstorms over southern new jersey and delaware last night and that's now pushing off towards the south. heat advisory in effect this afternoon. again you can see nothing much -- nothing really happening across much of pennsylvania but you see a couple of these showers and storms over the northern lakes. we'll have to watch that maybe this evening we see some gustier storms that moves new mexico lunchtime however is -- in. lunchtime however is at 92 degrees. a very hot afternoon. and again triple digit heat in the forecast. we'll share that with you coming up in just a moment. now a check on traffic this morning. your abc2 timesaver traffic is very quiet. that's good news. nothing really happening on the roads. and again, if you're heading on 95, towards the south side of the city limits looking very, very good this morning. 83 is also looking good. and we'll slide it out towards portions of the -- our parkville right around 695

looking very, very good right now. and let's go outside live and we'll confirm that for you on 895 at o'donnell street. is a rhee nothing is happening out there. we'll talk more about the traffic and weather. here's the drive times 11 minutes commute 95 to 83. 795 to 95 also look good. if you're going to the fort mchenry tunnel go now because commute is looking good. eight minute ride. >> that's your advice? >> oh, yeah. all right, not much going on out there like you said. but overnight baltimore city police hard at work on two separate two alarm fires in the city. both of them right around midnight. the first called in at 11:30. the second called in at the stroke after 12:00. and abc2 news' sherrie johnson has more on the fire at one of historic sites got a number of people worried. >> reporter: that's right charlie you know we have all new reaction and video this morning for you. abc2 news was the first on the scene in the overnight fire in northwest baltimore inside the old ambassador theatre. this is what the scene looked

lightning a little before 1:00 this morning. here on liberty heights avenue. authorities say the fire broke out around midnight and now investigators have not sure -- are not sure what caused the fire exactly but crews had it under control in about 30 minutes. the ambassador theatre hear not been movie theater since 1968 and served as a church in recent years and also the sister theater of the theater if baltimore. it sits next to a gas station and had some witnesses nearby concerned after they saw flames shooting from the building. >> it was -- over here on the pavement and i seen -- i seen a couple of guys get off the four truck. one of them fell down and i seen flames coming from the naked eye. i couldn't get on my phone though but it looked like the store next door was on fire. >> reporter: meanwhile we spoke with dispatchers overnight who say the fire that started on roberts street around 11:30 inside ava cant house caused minor -- a vacant house caused minor damage to the choice next

door. sherrie johnson, abc2 news. a massive train derailment in illinois. it happened yesterday about 25 miles north of chicago. you can see several cars piled up on the tracks mixed in with the debris is what's left 06 a bridge overpass. that collapsed on those tracks. a spokesman for union pacific says they were hauling 138 cars full of coal from wisconsin to wyoming and no one was hurt in the accident. aphorist of july parade takes a horrible turn when a flag bearer is hit by a car. it is caught on camera and we do warn you on this thursday morning especially this early what you will see the pretty disturbing. home video capturing the frightening moments of the man walking and this is at a parade being plowed right there by a pt cruiser. >> and i heard an engine rev and i was -- the guy carrying the flag gets hit by the car. the car that hit him kept going down the road. >> all right, police believe the 87-year-old driver of the pt cruiser had a heat streak

and lost consciousness while behind the wheel. despite the graphic video you see how bad this is. police say the man carrying the flag he is expected to survive and be okay. well, a florida lifeguard is now looking for a new job after doing his job. rescuing a drowning man from the beach. tomas lopez left his designated zone monday saving the man who was struggling in an area where lifeguards are told not to go. he was fired on the spot for doing what he did. >> not going to put my job over going to help someone again. i'm going to do what i felt was right and i did. >> if i see anyone drowning regardless of where they are i'm going to save them because i'm a lifeguard. and even as a human i'm going to save someone if i think they need help. >> the other lifeguard was fired when he told somethings he would do the same thing -- managers he would do the same thing. another lifeguard quit as a sign of solidarity with his friends. the company's policy is to call 911. this of course our hot topic

today on facebook and many of you writing in overnight. giving us your thoughts. and you have been speaking strong. takia says i can honestly see them giving him a verbal reprimand but firing is too harsh. end quote. donna says god bless many man for doing what the right thing was and a thumbs up to the two other guards who quit in protest. where was the lifeguard for that area where the man was drowning? one thing with that donna, there's a no swim zone. a horse found itself in a real predicament. coming up veterinarians and firefighters had to do even more and trying to save this trapped horse. what they did to get this animal free. >> also, one big catch? you're going to need one big boat. a great white wasn't a great white rather. but a shark caught here in florida weighs in as much as come car -- some cashes. mike? >> we are checking out abc2's

megan live in middle live. sherrie johnson has all new information about the child drowning in anne arundel county. and of course we start with weather and meteorologist mike masco. >> all right, here woe go guys. and charlie that is guys, megan not here. 79 outside the studio doors right now. a very, very sticky morning with the humidity around 60%. annapolis at 82 and d.c. landed at 80 and it's into the 80s already over the eastern shore. the satellite confirming the mostly clear skies overhead this afternoon. take a look at your planner. 83 degrees around the 8:00 hour. and at lunchtime we're already up to 92 degrees, tack on a few more and we'll get a two degree guarantee going of 98 degrees. with the humidity feeling like it's between 100 to 105. there could be a couple gusty showers and storms and right now where they are and where they could be by this evening. that's coming up in just a little bit. now a check on the abc2 timesaver traffic. looking pretty quiet morning on the roadways thus far. though congestion starting to build now in route 40 eastbound between joppa farm road and

joppa road. just be aware of that but otherwise things are just very, very quiet this morning. outside and confirm for you again you can see the speeds coming down a little bit because of that congestion. we'll go outside and take a look 895 o'donnell street looking pretty good looking to the west. so far so good on the beltways and if we go the drive times they're looking okay. we'll have another check on traffic and weather together in less than ten. all new information this morning and video of the child drowning in anne arundel county. this happened in brooklyn park and this morning, abc2 news' sherrie johnson has more on what's happened overnight. >> reporter: well, charlie, yes i've been in contact with anne arundel county police all morning long. we have confirmed that a 4-year- old child drowned at a home in brooklyn park in anne arundel county. take a look here. police tell us the child was found in the pool unresponsive at the home on 601 old riverside road. the call came in at 10:00 last night. the child was taken to the

hospital with life-threatening injuries. police spent much of the night on the scene looking for everyday and trying to figure it exactly what happened. right now the case is still under investigation. now once again, we have confirmed that a 4-year-old child has drowned as a pool in ahem in brooklyn park in anne arundel county. sherrie johnson, abc2 news. well, anyway you slice it it is hot outside. sticky and just miserable. and we creep closer to the 7:00 hour that code red heat alert going now through today for all of maryland. it's going to be so bad out there that you have the potential for heatstroke and also for heat caution. and the place to be of course is in the ac and really for the next few days as well. coolic centers across the city being open to surrounding communities but keeping cool is only part of the solution. water and a lot of it is a must for you today. well, to find a cooling center nearest to you or

closest to your house, head to our website. abc2news.com under the news section. we should learn more about how power outages have been handled so far. we're going to get a new idea of just how expensive this has been. one issue for the commission says it will annot address is how each power utility responded. they have to be answered down the road. we have checked the power numbers for you and the customers are more than 50,000 people still in the darkment bge officials are receiving about 1,000 out of state utility workers from mississippi and louisiana. they report in around 5:00 in the morning near bwi and they're working in 12 to 16 hour shifts. more than 14,000 people are working at bge to get your power bark on this morning. one -- back on this morning. one area is in middle river and that's where we finds abc2 news megan pringle, she is live with more going on and since you've been with us at 5:00 megan the

crews around you have been working hard. >> reporter: charlie really hard and it's paid off in some areas. certain parts we're on a cull receive tack right now have the power back on. others don't and this is a big issue. look at this. there's a ton of clean-up in peoples' yards. this tree came crashing down here and it snapped from a free and the giant branch fell on top of the power lines. they won't get the power until they get the tree removed. the guy has been sleeping in his truck pause his house has been so uncomfortable and so hot. but arkoses the street his neighbor has power. it came on at 4:00 this morning. it looks like for some people there are -- there is some optimism out there but not just quite yet. now part of the situation here in baltimore county specifically in middle river happens to be a wooded area about a mile away from where we are. there's a huge tree that fell down on some power lines. that tree happens to be county property. so the problem there is they have to wait for the county to

hiking. check this video out. this is from the i news reporter. the green line for the train lost power monday and aviating in a hot car for about an hour and a half. the driver told passengers the rescue train it had lost power too. so people got out and started walking. the passengers walked to the college park station. everyone arrived safely. well, a traffic alert for you this morning. while that water main break on york road has been fixed, it could still see some delays for your morning commute. one lane on each side of york road will remain closed during the morning rush. this will impact people on york between warren and shawan roads. crews expect to get the roads back up and running all clear by some time this afternoon. well, the o's are on a west coast road warriors right now headed down to anaheim for a four game marathon with the angels leading into the all- star break but not before escaping seattle with a series win. on july 4th against the mariners. there you have it right there.

advertising scam. federal officials say check your computer for malware. about 64,000 people could be  affected here in the u.s.. the fbi has set up a special site that can afteryou some help -- offer some help. firefighters in colorado are hoping to have the wildfires under control by sunday thanks to rain and cool temperatures. so far the fires have destroyed nearly 350 homes and scorched 28 miles of land. 45 wildfires are burning in nine states across the western u.s.. a florida judge is expected to rule today on whether george zimmerman will be granted bond for a second time. his attorney has asked the judge to release his client on the original $150,000 bond. that judge sent zimmerman back to jail-he failed to disclose aloofly his personal finances. more right now from tropical storm debby. some people in southeast georgia are dealing with flooding problems caused by the tropical storm. heavy rains from the storm overloaded the river last week

causing it to spill into nearby neighborhoods. people are now using boats to get around and the river is slowly receding though. officials say it's going to be days before the water is low enough for people get home to assess the damage on the property. this is nasty debby is hanging around mike but you were saying as far as the rain from debby, they could use a little bit of that. they were also in a deveer drought last week. >> the lawns are looking terrible right now. 79 outside the studio doors. that's the launching pad for the 90s later today. annapolis at 82 a pair of 7s cambridge and georgetown at 82. we had the clouds from the morning now going to the south and east. but you look upstream and there's some showers and storms trying to get organized in fact i want to switch it over to maryland's most powerful radar. and maryland's most powerful radar saying that this complex of storms stays together in 12 hours it will be in the baltimore viewing area. so let's keep an eye on this and keep it locked only channel 2 and wyatt will be here in the afternoon and evening to update the forecast but we'll have to

watch maybe more storms in the mix by tonight. we'll do a pair of 9s tonight and it's going to be a shade just below -- or today rather a shade below 100 degrees but i think some parts especially frederick could hit 100 degrees this afternoon and then a slow crawl down to 77 for tonight. the potential now of a storm chance this -- going into this evening going into overnight. so we'll be watching that and we'll be watching maryland's most powerful radar. 97 tomorrow. a little bit cooler and i know it's hard to say 97 being a cool reading. but it's going to be a little bit drier and then here comes the heat once again. saturday 101 degrees and could be an afternoon gusty shower or thunderstorm. 9 a on sunday and same deal and then maybe we break the heat and get out of the 90s and upper 80s by next week. let's get a check on the abc2 timesaver traffic. and we'll go and take a look at some the maps -- of the maps again not much to talk about other than the fact we still have some tower problem issues and that's knocking down traffic lights again each traffic light as the four way
